A handsome rodeo rider from Sheridan, WY, who had once beaten Yakima Canutt at the famed Bozeman Stampede, Don Coleman doubled Douglas Fairbanks and played supporting roles at Universal before signing a contract with maverick producer/director Leo Maloney. Coleman brought freshness and undoubted riding skills to four starring Westerns, but his aspirations were defeated by lackluster budgets and routine plots. Talkies, combined with the sudden death of Maloney, put an end to Coleman's starring career and he quit Hollywood altogether in 1935 to take up ranching. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, Rovi
