Actors -  Marilu Mallet

Since coming to Quebec in 1973, Chilean born filmmaker Marilu Mallet has been a prolific filmmaker. In her native land, Mallet had been an aspiring architect until she began studying film during the Popular Unity period. When the socialist government was overthrown in a military coup, Mallet left the country. In Montreal she began directing documentaries and doing work in television. Most of her work centers upon the experiences of immigrants to Canada; using a technique whereby she blends fiction and reality by having her subjects improvise and act out their situations, Mallet is able to create films that evoke the beauty of simple daily actions. Her best known film Journal inacheve (1982), is an examination of the experience of the exiled. In addition to filmmaking, Mallet has also published collections of short stories in French. ~ Sandra Brennan, Rovi
