I just watched this and I can absolutely side with Cyrus and Co-Host on this one. I am a hardcore horror fan and I've always been a massive fan of the anthology genre, but this film simply doesn't have the chops to make it into anywhere near 'classic' status or near classic status, I don't care how much hyperbole it's received from some sources. For one thing, the whole 'fratty' aspect of it as Cyrus said really grates to say the least, there are practically no likeable characters in this (at least for me) although there are a few pairs of nice lookin' titties that much I can say woof!

    Ahem.

Also, as Cyrus pointed out, the bombastic effect of the shaky cam technique coupled with all the realistic glitches and blips and bad tracking etc which does lend a more authentic feel to the proceedings given the concept, but makes for some retina-jarring viewing (I am still sitting here with a mild headache nearly an hour later). I thought the acting sans the 3rd story worked well as in it was very believable and the fact there are to my knowledge no name stars in it, makes it far easier to buy into these characters. Just to end this, as far as the stories go, I am telling you now that the first and last stories EASILY make this worth any viewing at all, so I would also like Cyrus and Co-Host give this a 'Rental' (sorry Mr Salisbury, but I ain't wit'cha on this one for once). The second story is technically the weakest/most 'meh', but the third and fourth ones? Crap. Sorry. The third one (outside of a cool effect with the killer) made no sense to me and is let down by make up FX as bad (nay, worse) than the acting. And the fourth story would have worked IF it actually made any goddamn sense in its denouement grrr. That one seriously pissed me off as well as the third story. And yeah, the last story IS good........but a wee bit overrated. Although the way it ends pushes it up a notch.

Oh and one last thing - the whole wraparound story? Ermmmm........the version I saw at least? It wraps up I guess but before the last story and certainly not after. It also doesn't make much in the way of sense if you stop to think about it for more than a few seconds, but hey ho. I will give it this though; it did genuinely creep me out in places and have me on the edge of my seat (pretty much all in the first story). And that actress is indeed a freaky looking gal, she simultaneously gave me the creeps while strangely arousing me too ;-)

If there is ever a sequel to this (which I have no doubt there will be), then I hope they fix the problems that seriously dog the first one. It's a shame, because as a concept and with better middle stories (and less choppy filming and likeable characters) this could have indeed been something worth crowing about.

The concept of the segment about the couple having the Skype conversation sounds like a cool idea;kind of reminds me of this:

Boyfriend watches Girlfriend get murdered on Skype

@end--Yeah, that's not the trailer for this film. I've contacted the web gurus of Spill. Don't judge the film by whatever that is.

@Lucky @Obscurefan--I believe it's actually Metal Virgin who stays up posting them. You should send her some love as well.

And thanks @Obscure, I enjoy doing these reviews

I'm interested in the movie, but man does that trailer REALLY suck.

"Here's a bunch of mundane things set to music that religious extremist might think of as slightly unsettling. SPOOKY TITLE CARD!"

Cohost the format of movie you were  talking about on this podcast were called Video Disc. It was something that looked like a laser disk but it was in a plastic jacket that would insert into a player and deposit the disc into the machine and half way through the movie you had to turn it over to the other side. I had one when I was a kid.

Plus side: getting the lowdown on a movie that I have been hearing about and looking forward to for a couple of months now.

Minus side: who knows if/when this will make it to my neck of the woods anytime soon.

I disagree with Cyrus' theory about horror anthology films always being a mixed bag (one stand-out, some okay, and one really bad) because of one little movie called "Trick 'r Treat". Where's the bad part in that film?
