Saw it today. What a fantastic movie! Yes it is off beat, awkward and somewhat debatable in its morals, but that is what makes the movie entertaining. Linklater's direction is confident and never overbearing, allowing the story to flow comfortably along. The writing juggles so many different story tones and styles to comfortably create its own vibe, blending black comedy, light drama, mild suspense and faux documentary elements almost seamlessly. The acting is top notch from MacLaine, McConaughey and especially Black, each getting so much mileage with their respective screen time. A few noticeably awkward editing cuts aside, it was a very great film. Go see this film anyway you can!

I was sold on the image of Jack Black dressed like Rupert Pupkin from "King of Comedy," but then I hear you guys compare it to "I Love You Phillip Morris" and give it this glowing review. Now, I absolutely can't wait to see this film! I'll try my best to see it somewhere, sometime, even if it's a rental.

I dont know maybe its just me but making a dark comedy about the murder of an 81 year old woman is a bit fucked up to me. I mean i know she was a bitch and Tiede was supposedly a nice guy, but that just seems a little offensive to me, itd be like cameron writing in jokes for the titanic its why i didnt really like 30 minutes or less, but it could just be me

I am so glad to hear that after the horror of Gulliver's Travels, Jack Black has decided to take the John C Riley route and do more indy comedies, as opposed to the Eddie Murphy route.
