Tim Burton has just annouce that there will not be a sequel to Dark Shadows because the ending with Dr. Julia Hoffman had more to do with the soap opera structure of the movie and it wasn't a conscious decision.

Even though I like sequels, I have to admit I'm glad that there won't be a sequel to Dark Shadows because I thought the movie worked great as a stand alone horror comedy movie.

I thought that Dark Shadows was a surprisingly fun, really funny, and sweet horror comedy movie based on the 1966 gothic horror soap opera Dark Shadows created by Dan Curtis, thanks to it's fun, really funny, and sweet story written by John August and Seth Grahame-Smith, fantastic and funny acting performances by Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, Michelle Pfeiffer as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, Helena Bonham Carter as Dr. Julia Hoffman, Eva Green as the villianous Angelique Bouchar, Jackie Earle Haley as Willy Loomis, Johnny Lee Miller as Roger Collins, Bella Heathcote as Victoria Winters, Chloe Grace Moretz as Carolyn Stoddard, Gulliver McGrath as David Collins and Ray Shirley as Mrs. Johnson, good and directing by Tim Burton, great music by Danny Elfman, awesome cinematography by Bruno Delbonnel, cool visuals and a nice message about a good and funny vampire helping a family who needed help getting their job and realationship back together.

If you are a fan of the 1966 gothic horror soap opera Dark Shadows created by Dan Curtis then you might not like the mixed of horror and comedy that this movie has, but if you like Tim Burton's movies staring Johnny Depp then you will probably like this horror comedy movie.

I give Dark Shadows a Full Price and I hope you enjoy Dark Shadows.

I'm a huge old-school Tim Burton fan, and after all the idiots that I know that are seeing this opening day (the same people who refused to see Cabin in the Woods, mind you) will never listen to a thing I say, I feel like I have to give up and just let Tim Burton make movies that have so much potential but so little payoff.

I saw this yesterday. I thought it was interesting, The girl that goes to the Collins house in the beginning of the movie was great, I liked her a lot. But I never got the point of the movie. It seemed to try to build up to something, then just kind of revealed new things at the last second, made them lame, and the entire climax was garbage.

Eva Green is pretty hot in this movie though.

I really like the Leon + Cyrus / Co-Host + Korey split reviews. The groups just have better chemistry and I end up actually having fun listening, instead of slogging through 30+ minutes of bickering.

    Sounds like a rental

Hardly anything worked in this movie. How the fuck does Collins have descendents? Were they cousins from England or descendants of his bastard children? What was going on with that kid and his ghost mom, and what was the relation between that and the ghost the other girl saw all her life? Just dude, what the fuck?

And finally, don't you think it's a bit odd when you're in a movie directed by your husband, and he's making you say things like "Every year look half as good and drink twice as hard" and "I don't want to grow old."

I only saw the remake tv show from 1991 that starred Ben Cross (Sarek from Star Trek 2009) as Barnabas.  It was an evening soap like Dynasty or Dallas.  I actually liked it and remember being upset because the show was cancelled and ended on a cliff-hanging resolution to the season's main story arch.

Beetlejuice and the First Two Batman Movies

So, there's no Quentin Collins or Reverend Trask??????  So many great storylines they could have used with those two characters!  I knew Burton would blow it on this one....one of my favorite shows gone to pot!  Why can't Burton stick to designing and let someone, oh say Joss Whedon direct it?  Now that would have been great!

    Great review guys!

Cyrus and Leon were very unenthusiastic about Dark Shadows.

There's only one great Tim Burton movie in my opinion and it didn't have Helena Bonham Carter or Johnny Depp in it. Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! Beetlejuice! The rest have just been bland.

This is the type of movie I'd Redbox on a Saturday afternoon when I'm feeling lighthearted and there's nothing else to do, and force my husband to sit through it with me and myself to laugh at all the stupid jokes. Definitely doesn't look worth seeing in theaters, but doesn't look like total crap either.

Always gotta be hatin on the white boy, huh people? WE ARE BETTER THAN THAT!!!! Naw but really...some folks here are so predictable, which is why I usually always laugh at the kind of jokes they made at the end; aiing as how it almost IMMEDIATELY happenes x)

I give this movie a matinee.  Would have been full price if it would have been played straight and kept focus.  But I liked it, surprisingly.

Damn y'all are going in on cyrus, i tend to agree with him more often that not especially on The Lockout review...cohost that movie is HORRIBLE. The very definition of a waste of money and time. They coulda used those millions to feed hundreds of thousands of kids in Africa or even here in the states, instead they make a movie that was completely and utterly pointless. Liked the CGI though.

@ boblebob - This happens occasionally, a Korey-Co-host review (though Korey didn't see it this time) and a Cyrus-Leon review. I think it depends on when they see the film.
