I seen this movie at release and, like alot of other people was completely and utterly dumbfounded by the choice in makeup for JGL. I dont personally think it was necessary. maybe if we didnt realize until later on in the movie that Willis was the older version of him it may have served a purpose but as we knew that was the case from the get go i thought it was more of a distraction than anything. But hey, i really cant down the movie for that as this was one of the better science fiction/thrillers ive seen in a while. Great Acting and certainly one of the better paced movies ive seen in a long time.   8.5/10

Well this is how I interpreted the ending to the film. It was the fact that Cid would grow up to be the Rainmaker but to becoming a superhero instead of a villain. Because if you remember at the beginning of the film Young Joe explains how 10% of the population were mutants granted the powers of T.K( telekinesis) and everyone thought after that there would be superheros saving the world; however all you got were a bunch of idiots floating quarters around impressing girls at clubs. Now jump forward to the first loop where young joe kills old joe lives his life for thirty years and before his capture he finds out from one of his former partners that the Rainmaker is cleaning house.Evidently this gets him captured taken back too the past where he informs young joe of the rainmaker. Before no one knew who this kid was therefore it a

llowed them to find out who he was to save the future by killing him. Young joe meets sara and finds out that cid is the rainmaker however leading to the events allowed Young Joe to become a father figure and have influence on his live just like his mother has promised. You see before she didn't know what he would become but she did know what he was capable of and this allowed her to take more time in developing him to become a better person. She didn't do this in the first loop which caused him to turn evil. I assumed she was killed by some random events the movie didn't explain but now her death if she were die this time would not be in vain.

Isn't there a line in it where Jeff Daniels says "This time travel crap; just fries your brain like an egg." That line felt directed to the audience, saying 'stop over-analsying it, you know it won't make sense eventually.' Unless it is done badly, why bother? All time travel films start to unravel or become a paradox once you overthink it.

Jeff Daniels shows up to steal a few scenes as young Joe’s boss and Emily Blunt does a commendable job, but the most impressive work in the film comes at the hands of a young Pierce Gagnon. Just five years old during shooting,Gagnon manages to be cute, yet creepy, innocent but terrifying.

One question I did have with the film is if the Rainmaker was controlling the crime syndicates why would he be worried if the authorities would kill him. Unless the was another super power TeleKinetic out there that could match him.

I didn't have a problem with the whole Rainmaker being created thing because the way I saw it, he could be created in all timelines.

    1) Old Joe never interferes. He still 'saw his mom die' and could have gotten some kind of replacement jaw, and getting drunk on power, become the rainmaker.
    2) Old Joe does interfere and kills his real mom. Again, he saw his mom die and now has a better reason to get a fake jaw.
    3) The way the movie DID end, I'd like to imagine the cycle was broken because the mother and Cid, now inspired by Young Joe's sacrifice, take his powers much more seriously and he is raised to be good.

That being said, I think an argument could be made that he was simply destined to become the Rainmaker NO MATTER WHAT.

I'm trying to figure out why so many people are disliking this film and saying it contradicts Time Travel. The only contradiction I could find in any Time Travel film is the correlation with time, space, and speed. First off if you were to travel back in time you would have to travel at the precise level of speed the earth was rotating in or you would be stuck in a "time warp', I'm sure there is another name for it but I can seem to think of it right now.

However I enjoyed the hell out of this movie and would dare to say its in my top films of the year so far with TDKR, The Avengers, Chronicle, Dredd, and Raid Redemption. The film made think deeply about the concept and the plot behind it. I hear some people are complaining that middle dragged on too long but I thought it was important scene to explain the Sid child who would one day become the ruler of the 6 largest cities in the world. To explain the reason why loopers killed targets for the future mob was because according to the writer/director Rian Johnson. "Everybody in the movie has this nano technology tracking in their body and whenever there's a death, a location tag is sent to the authorities from this tracking material." So, using that explanation, you wouldn't want to kill someone in the future and then send them back in time because it would lead the authorities to your time machine. I still give it a High Full Price.

Is there Any Chance we can get a sopiler filled discussio about this movie? judging from this review I'd say that would be cool.

i have to give it a second try but i pretty much hated the movie today more or less after a good beginning of the whole thing. i felt the plot was too split up and didnt connect the characters enough at some points. and i know its a minor thing for some people but why is the main character in a shootout where the outcome is just based on luck and the guy on the flying motorcycle shoots and for some reason just doesnt hit. for me this works in movies where the action is good enough to justify the reasoning behind it or i just dont care for the characters because its meant to be  funny but this wasnt it either way. even if you missed something on the first viewing you never miss the special something that tells you that the movie did something for you. in this case i missed the urge to vomit out my popcorn even though my future self contacted me and held a gun to my penis.

I would to hear a spoiler discussion podcast on the movie.  I am glad I did not listen to anything prior to seeing the movie.  I thought it was clever, but not brilliant.  It went somewhere I wasn't expecting and I liked for how well it worked the story it approached.  Thanks for sharing y'all!

Leon - that's the exact ending I was thinking of. Since the movie established that shared body concept so much, I was surprised when it didn't happen. They even zoomed in on Bruce Willis's hand!

Like you said in the review, JGL wasn't the smartest protagonist... he did decide that the best way to send future self a message was to slice up his wrist.

This movie is a matinee if you ask me. Not enough Bruce Willis, the kid was annoying and we never got to see the Rainmaker actually do his thing save for a news feed.

Saw the film last night and loved it. Great to see an intelligent and well made sci film. Everyone has an opinion to make and Leon just did not like it. That is cool.

You guys should record a spoiler audio review. I felt like you all held back, I'm so curious what you all really thought down and dirty. I did enjoy the film for it's creative view. I had many problems with it, many plot holes and many questions I had at the end. This is the second movie to have done that too me this month. Dredd was the other. However, it had a enough of a plot to hold my interest and make the world believable for me. I did find the make up to be pretty cool, but that is my bias and my geeky artist side in me always wanting to do movie make-up coming out, and the mannerisms that Gordon was able to nail Willis was really good. I was surprised as how funny some parts where. If anything, I'm glad a movie like this was able to get made, why I enjoy film and storytelling so much. Why I actually went home and stayed up all night watching other great films after seeing this. It made me excited for the films yet to come.

I'm just kidding, To be honest Leon sometimes makes sense and sometimes he doesn't when compared to MY TASTE. Nobody is going to align themselves to our taste 100% of the time. No need for insults. I mean Brian Salisbury often says some pretty invalid criticisms IMO, doesn't mean I want him to be fired. It always fun to see opposing views from our own.

People need to leave Leon alone, I mean it's not like he ultimately gave this movie the same rating as the last Resident Evil movie or anything (...)

timothy k - THANK YOU for saying (almost) everything I wanted to. Seriously, look back at how much this movie depends on (boring) gunfights where the villains CAN'T SHOOT STRAIGHT at JGL, even at close range!

Not to mention that the main character was still too self-centered by the end to make such a sacrifice as taking his own life. Imagine if he'd just shot his own hand off, that would've been enough for batboy TK kid to get away.

Looper review SPOILER!!!!!- sorry i done this on my crack ipod but i think it some ol bull shit here the review i gave to my friends I wish my future self can stop me from seeing this , I might of got that last cup cake/ or maybe that girl at Starbucks ...ok maybe not her but this movie was a waste of time' Spoiler!! It stars Joseph Levitt as Joe "Young Joe" as a killer for the mob in past that future mobs send people they want killed to the past to be killed by young Joe, because it to hard to kill anyone in future..but kidnapping is possible. And why send them to the past 30 in time when you can send their ass in space (o this time machine can also teleport too but we will get to that) young joe is a future dope head that put drugs in his eyes or something' his friends ..-Wait hold up I just thought of some thing, how the fuck do you know your next hit if you are in the fucking past' what do they send you a text message over space and time with the iPhone 20' apple is good but not that good- back to his friend had to close his "loop" that when your future self comes to your killer "spot" and you get paid bars of gold to get cut off." you are' done with mob ' see you in 30years" but his friend let his future self go. Now he get killed "young friend" and "future friend" dies in the past....... :/ you can't fucking do that ' you can't die in the past and come from the future' this writer never hear of the grandfather rules of time space continuum. SPOILER!!!!! back to Young Joe he finds his self up to his future self Future Joe Where he didn't kill him but dies that how I seen it- ok the the movie should be over but no the is past A now to past B , where he find his self up to future Joe again and kills him, and lives his 30 years and get send 'his self' back to the past let call this past C he mets up with young Joe and takes him down and young Joe goes back to his apartment and future Joe remembers him doing this and see him as he falls but shoots the mobster future Joe takes young Joe to train telling him " be gone dude' I got this and you fucking it up" but noo young Joe writes on his arm "Bernicetic" or what ever: but met me at the diner he means everything else would be to many spoilers here is what should of happen in the movie: Forget a and b past it didnt happen - Young Joe didn't kill future Joe so young Joe goes in hiding until future Joe (by the memory is still cloudy met young Joe in the diner but not by marking his arm but by remembering he was almost killed there. Future Joe tells his story the best way he can but he still can remember to much because of the future trip , as he try's to give young joe an explanation of what going on young Joe does care and still try's to kill him then the mob come in and young Joe takes a shot some where and still gets that 1/2 of the map. Young Joe goes to the farm and see the little boy ' mean time future Joe does what he does but... Never get mix in the mob never goes to hideout but kills some one important in the mob . Future Joe makes to the farm shot the boy and kills his mother and future Joe dies also, and now young Joe is on the run for the next 30 years cause he never truly finish the job plus future Joe killed someone in the mob. So he lives his life ( then we see his story)and get loop back to the same spot and end movie.
