I didn't see the movie in theaters, but I did bought on BluRay and loved the movie. I liked the ending, even though it was predicable, but it was the inability of the ending that made it disturbing.

    I would give this a rental....not great but not bad either...ending sucked...cheesy

I guess I'm in the minority who liked the ending. I thought it had a real "Tales from the crypt" vibe to it.

I've just got back from watching this movie in the theaters and discussing it with a few friends over a couple of cold ones. We all agreed that the atmosphere and cinematography were top-notch and it was overall very immersive. I had a blast watching it and was pretty tense throughout exploring the mystery and see it unravel. We also agreed though that the trailer spoiled pretty much what were the best moments of that movie and that the ending needed a better climax. The majority of the movie was spent on such careful build up, but the end is just too much of a cheat. He really should have broken the sinister cycle!

I'm just really mad now that I saw the trailer before the movie...

I honestly liked the movie, I'd even call it my favorite if it wasn't for two things.

    1. The fucking jump scares. Every there was a genuenly freaky, horror atmosphere..fucking jump scare and orcastra strings. I hate that in horror movies and nearly ruined it for me.

    2. I figured the movie out about 30 minutes in. Usually that's not a bad thing, but when the main character can't pecie it together and even when it's explained to him and they can't figure it out...I wanna choke someone out for it.

Those two things figured in, I'd give the movie a low matinee - high rental to scare the shit out my boyfriend with it.

BTW can someone tell me why the demon (Bullshit on deity) looks like a fucking clown? I FUCKING HATE CLOWNS!!!!

@Jon, please refrain from using the word WE, because your idea of a movie is horrible for my taste. Good news for you though, they are working on a new transformers movie *thumbs up*

    p.s.

you wanna know what this movie is like: it's like watching Speed Racer and the 1st Hulk movie all over again

we don't need all of this complex story and character development and family dynamics, we want to see what we paid to see in a horror movie: horror

Im all for compelling storytelling but this is not Shawshank, Im sorry but in this case for Sinsiter to hell with this story, it's all pointless

People who are saying this movie was terrible are the type who enjoy those cheap Paranormal activities. They need constant fake out scares that make them jump so they can laugh after . "OH NO A LAMP MOVED!" Sinister was a quality film that does have jump scares but paired with a really good creepy story, it has flaws at the end but it was an excellent movie especially for those who like good movies and not mainstream garbage

The ending is the only thing I had a problem with, but I left the theater felling like "FINALLY!! That was a horror movie" unlike this Paranormal Activity bullshit.

Seriously guys, what a fucking terrible film. May as well give Carlyle a booty call after all the dignity you lost in doing this review. I give this movie a tremendous FUCK YOU!

This movie has me really excited and I can't wait to see it. I wish more horror films could branch out more into the crazy-as-shit as opposed to the Last House at the End of the Boulevard or whatever who gives a damn direction. The trailer alone has a lot of cool horror elements that look pretty creative with the mashing between "normal" home videos and deaths as well as the mythology behind Bagul. Bagul, Bagul, Bagul, Bagel... Dammit, now it's stuck in my head. I'm still psyched for this movie, though.

I honestly can not believe what I am reading, to say insidious was better than Sinister is moronic. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but the words "Insidious was way better" should be followed by a dash that says "said no one ever". Insidious should consider it a compliment to be compared to Sinister. Those "boring" scenes you refer to are called character development something Insidious had little of. Sinister significantly articulated its character motivations better and more disturbing horror by far.

Btw, I do have to give credit to whoever made the VHS interview that was supposed to take place ten years ago. It looked really authentic.

On the positive side, nobody plays scared better than Ethan Hawke.

I just saw it and I think it's a rental at best. It has its moments (the films are effectively creepy) and the acting is good, but I found most of it to be boring and rather predictable. Even if I hadn't seen the trailer, I would have still been able to guess the ending.

I was so disappointed with this movie

it was not scary, it was boring, and I was getting irritated by the constant Super 8 film watching and the family melodrama bickering

I like Ethan Hawke, the images are creepy and so is the Bagul but not enough to save this movie

    Insidious was WAY better!

I just saw this movie. Great atmosphere, a little predictible but overall very enjoyable. @Chestbuster you do realize they also named the movie's faults right ?

  • October 14, 2012 at 12:41 AM, said ...

@ChestBurster ...you do know other critics have been praising this movie right? maybe it's genuinely a good movie and you have no taste?  i came back from seeing it and i was highly entertained.

Get over yourself, ChestBurster. People like you just love to piss on a good parade. I believe these guys gave their honestly held opinions, or at least tried to, regardless of Cargill being a friend.

Wow, You guys really tip toed around this movie. And I get it Carlyle's your friend and your former associate. But I just came back from seeing this movie and it was absolutely terrible. No if, ands or buts about it. You guys know, but because Carlyle wrote it, you guys drool all over this, especially Korey and Leon. Your critics. Your suppose to give a truthful review of every movie you see whether you the makers or not. Yes, the dialogue's good, but it doesn't make up for every bad thing in this movie. And those shots that the trailer spoiled didn't bother me. The same expression would be there. Really Brian, Full price and one of the reasons is just for being released on Halloween. Leon, it's not scary. It sucks. And this review is shameful.

R_Reticence Korey's got something going on with his throat that causes his voice to sound gravelly like that, he mentioned it on this week's Let's Do This.
