    My Review of Skyfall

    @ Gabriel Reyes

    *SPOILER*

Skyfall is the Bond Family Estate in Scotland that has been sold off because Bond being the last of his family is presumed dead.  Even though he lives and has reacquired some sold items of his the one item he doesn't care too much for is Skyfall.  Maybe that what Adele meant in the theme.

    One question... What was Skyfall???

I had no idea Skyfall would be this great. BUT I do want to scold you guys for the house spolier, I didn't want to know that before the movie did.

Wow, just saw this (on a stinking hot day down here in Sydney in a theatre with no air conditioning no less >:( ) and was unfortunately underwhelmed by the whole thing. Bardem was interesting coz he played it kinda quirky, but that didn't make up for him being thoroughly underwritten. SPOILERS - so he got tortured, went nuts, and wants to kill M because of it.... the end.. and just HAPPENS to be a super computer hacker on top of being a super former agent.. hatches some super elaborate plan to get caught (for no reason) then after all the subterfuge and hacking and surreptitious bullshit, just busts into a room guns blazing at M.. I mean, couldn't he and his ARMY of henchmen just have done that anyway? They obviously knew where M was going to be..... Fuck, why not just break into her house at night and shoot her in her nightie or something?? His whole motivation for stealing the thing with the identity of all the agents felt completely unrelated to his overall more personal motivation of pure revenge.

In fact, every part of this movie was underwritten. They really could have explored some sense of kinship between Bond and Silva, given they're apparently similar circumstances (in that they're both spies and Silva's beef with MI6 coupled with Bond being shot at the beginning by one of his own) but this isn't explored at all. It all felt so bleghh.. so beige..so done before. Not to mention the whole title of the film doesn't relate to anything meaningful in the plot.

I wanted to agree with Brian, but in the end I fall more so on Leon's side of things. It was okay, not great, and certainly not the, or even one of, the best Bond films. Low matinee.

I see what Leon is saying here.  His issues with the movie are valid but they did not bother me.  There is a little lull after the beginning but it did not take to long for the action to pick up.  Personally, I love this new Bond because it is more grounded.  The earlier Bonds tried to amaze and fill you with awe.  This one filled me with emotion; something I did not expect from a James Bond Movie.  I cared for everyone on the screen even the villain.  I was on the fence with James Bond after Quantum of Solace. After Skyfall I am completely on board and cannot wait for the next film!

No mention of Judi Dench?  She was amazing in this!

to me they can still keep the bond title like discussed before skyfall: like 007, james bond is a title not a name.

to me the 'proof' of bond being writen at the manor is a modification from mi6.

covering up everything to THAT extent. renaming that written detail in the mantle assumed by the agent.

all in all my guess is once you become 'bond' whomever u might be before is 'corrected' modifyed into 'jamesbond'.

like replacing your name by ur grade: 'LT. Colonel'. and not 'Charles Dims'.

but...it opens with that barrel! the corridor is the barrel, james doesnt shot he comes to u. it is a step forward compared to the cowboyish attitude of past bonds who shot first: he investigates, carefully operates.

    i loved it.

ok I finally saw the movie last night.. I avoided the the review until i saw it.

I agree with both Korey and Leon. it reminded me the hell out of the dark knight. which isnt bad at all. Bardem was so good that I found myself wishing he had more screen time. its a long ass movie and he doesnt even show up until like half way through. the movie itself had some pacing issues for me too. the action sequences were great but like leon mentioned, they were edited quickly so that you didnt feel the strength of the deaths. same with his sex scenes or lack there of. the chemistry between Em and Bond is what drives the movie though. more so than his love interests. Bardems planning at the end kinda felt off character. he was so cool and calculated when you meet him but as the movie goes along it feels as  if he justs puts himself out there like an attention whore going with the flow. with all that said I Still was very entertained by the movie. Great acting and some very well filmed scenes did make me put a lot of what bothered me in the back seat as minor flaws. Ill give it a Low Full Price. it would have been a high full price if that scene at the church had more of a 1on1 confrontation.

WOW Korey, It reminded you of The Dark Knight? You just now figuring that out? The director already said he was inspired by TDK when he was making SKYFALL. You guys need to stay on top of your shit.

I wish SKYFALL was the "reboot" of Bond instead of CASINO ROYALE. That would have been much better. QUANTUM OF SOLACE was a complete waste. It's the OCTOPUSSY of the 21st century.

I did not find Javier Bardem's character so much effeminate, as sexually nebulous, and very insane.  For many guys, the way Bardem's character interrogated Bond would have been intimidating and scary, which was the point.  The intimacy of implying molestation/rape is scary for anyone.  I thought this movie was awesome, and my wife, who does not like movies, really enjoyed it. I will say that one thing that was a bit much for me was the James Bond gets captured to capture the bad guy, and then the villain does the exact same thing and they are surprised by it.  That was a bit much.

P.S. Corey, you need to give Carlyle a lil respect!

Just got to see this movie for free at work woo!! It's a good James Bond flick. Better then quantum of solace. Still think casino royal is the best though and I don't think skyfall is anywhere next to it. Might see it a second time cuz I got crappy seats but that's it.

I thought it was ok I am sort of on leons side I would definitely give it a matinee My problems with the movie: -There was no suspense when she was aiming at bond I knew he was going to get shot and I knew he was not going to die. Trailers everywhere I couldn't of avoided it if I wanted to. -Stupid Choices/Boring plot/Flopping jokes -Fail one liners (Wreck it Ralph had better one liners than this) -Terrible edits after plot twists and even a few where that were just plain jarring and actually hurt my eyes. -It feels like this movie is full of ideas but it has no execution. -The Gravestone Pros: -Original guitar riff Dr No theme -First verse of Adeles song (best part of the movie, downhill once the chorus came in) - BIG SPOILER xExMx Dies I was not really on her side I don't like her(just tried to make it harder to read if you were skimming) -The visuals in the scene where he tracks down the assassin. I thought there was some good action and I struggle to even call this a bond film. Its just a action movie like all the other action movies that have come out lately but with some familiar characters. The movie didn't feel like a bond film. Especially not like the old ones which I watched befor coming into this one. Casino Royale: BTS! Quantum: Rental Skyfall: Matinee

sorry I'm late, too much schoolwork

anyways, I saw this movie with my buddy and older sis, we had a good time, not a bad audience in the theater too

the film is the best next to 'Casino Royale' and is certainly better than 'Quantum of Solace', it really does feel like a James Bond movie and the filmmakers went back to the basics

it's pretty slow in some parts but has some good set pieces, good action when it happens and Javier Bardem is a fun villain, the Bond girls though I found less interesting

the movie also got pretty personal and emotionally investing when it got dark

loved the ending as well, looking forward to the next movies :)

RottenTomatoes gave it 93% 'Sam Mendes brings Bond surging back with a smart, sexy, riveting action thriller that qualifies as one of the best 007 films to date'

Micheal Fessbender could be a good pick. I just hope these producers and directors will go let's with a young adult James Bond. That is when i call it a day.(it is over)

I love Idris Elba, but I never saw him as Bond. I always thought he would be a great Alex cross (so much for that happening) but I would love to see Michael Fassbender as Bond, after Daniel Craig is done.

I don't think bond will ever be played by Idris because of hatred among the black people. To much hate in the wold.If he was asian or hispanic it will never be a good James Bond movie. Not only that you can probably blame it on the directors because they don't want to work hard on an actor who is the minority.

I am black and i am saying keep it the way it is. These directors and writers, not the actors, would destroy what EON, and Ian wanted to create a legacy of great bond films despite who takes the helm.

Also this movie sucks and could've easily done without 25-30 min of it.

This movie feels the need to reaffirm its patriotism by putting Union Jacks everywhere and talking about the British "empire". When you do that its because you don't actually believe it. I think the Brits still have a huge inferiority complex towards France/Spain.
