"You'll be begging for a bullet by the end" Why do I feel like this line would reflect your feelings after watching Twilight Breaking Wind Part 2,lol.

Saw this over the weekend. What's with all the hate? This was a lot of fun. Emma Stone was wasted and could have been anyone. Ryan Gosling's voice got on my nerves through the first half, but didn't bother me the rest of the way through. Cinematography was inventive at times, and the movie was funnier than I expected. It's from the guy who directed Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less...so I'm kind of impressed. Not bad weekend movie-going.

co-host totally agree because legit AS I was watching this movie I was also thinking 'wow this sountrack is very inception-like'

I have a confession to make. As a child of the 80s/90s I never cared to watch the Untouchables growing up. I finally decided to watch it after having seen this movie, and I have to say this:

Gangster Squad literally rips off Untouchables in many parts...MANY. I was surprised just how similar they both were to each other. The only difference was there was more character development in Untouchables, of course.

My only gripe with the Untouchables was Sean Connery's death scene. It was so damn hammy it was laughable. WTF were they thinking?

And is it me, or do these movies always wind up being anticlimactic because the bad guys get put away for TAX EVASION. At least Gangster Squad had a decent mano a mano scene, unlike Untouchables...

Oh and FYI  Mickey Cohen IRL was Bugsy Siegel's bodyguard during the Las Vegas days, who was played by Harvey Keitel in the 1991 Warren Beatty-loves-Warren Beatty turkey, "Bugsy"

Been wonderin when people were gonna figure out Ryan Gosling is overrated as fuuuck - sounds like that day is gettin closer and closer...

More than classics like L.A. Confidential and The Untouchables this reminds me of the run of totally forgettable 90s gangster flicks like Hoodlums (Larry Fishburn) and Mobsters (Christian fucking Slater). Kudos to them for reshooting the cinema shootout scene, though I must admit I'm intrigued to know why these cops would indiscriminately shoot the hell out a movie theatre full of innocent peolple in the first place - guess I'll never know now :(

Also about the music: If anyone is a fan of Thomas Newman's music, you can clearly tell Jablonsky is riffing off Newman, circa his Road to Perdition-era scoring...even right down to the guitars serving as percussion.

I found it at least a nice treat and honestly i didn't catch the Inception blasts that Co Host is referring to...unless those were added in post production.

  • January 12, 2013 at 8:57 PM, said ...

Correction: Jablonsky was Zimmer's understudy, and it wasn't until that crapfest Bay movie the Island did Jablonsky actually serve as Bay's main composer...

Dont know why...don't care why. but Jablonsky still works for Zimmer...

Steve Jablonsky always rips off Hans Zimmer. He's the guy Michael Bay got for his films, presumably because he couldn't get Hans Zimmer.

Saw it last night. It was the avengers in the 1950s with ganster copsseriously I kept replacing Nick Noltewith Nick Fury. Cinematography wise it looks like the Zach Synder film Zach Synder didn't direct. But yeah just some awesome fun.

I liked the movie. I agree with you guys - it wore everything goofy about it on its sleeve.  Wasn't anything great, but it was a good time.  And I agree with Co-Host, at times the score had me thinking of Hans Zimmer too.

I loved the Hell out of this movie.  It's one of the greatest fantasy films in recent memory alongside The Hobbit.

Co-host crowbars in a mention of Batman, everybody.  Take a shot.  XD
