I really gotta agree with you guys on this one.  This was definitely a tough choice on a final rating for me with the way that there were just as many positives as there were many negatives in the film.   Saw this with a friend of mine the other day and he enjoyed it, while I was conflicted of either enjoying it or was just "meh" about it.

Personally, I'd give the movie at the very least a High Rental to the very most a Low Matinee.  It's definitely got some good strong points with the acting and some of the pacing, but some moments were kind of "you'll see it coming a mile away".  Over all, the ratings I just gave is the best I'd give.

Those that are interested, definitely catch it at the very most as a matinee. It's got the right moments, but not always so consistent with it all.

I actually thought it was really good. You guys pretty much defacto dislike horror movies so its the only genre where I artificially bump your guys ratings up one notch to get a good idea if the movie will be good or not. This one was great. There was a part or two that seemed cheesy like when the monitor read "mamamamamama". There was no reason for that to happen and just comes across as forced and not a natural part of the story. Also Jamie Lanisters dream in the hospital was exceptionally corny and again pointless. Outside of that though the entire movie was awesome and VERY creepy. Few good scares in there too. Also I think the progressive nature of mamas violence made TOTAL SENSE in this movie. Thats a legit complaint for other movies but in this one I'm actually shocked it was mentioned as a annoyance when its obvious why mama doesn't go beserker kill mode straight from the start.

    You Matha Fuckas:

I knew that you guys would not get the message of the movie. This happens all the time when you review a horror movie. Stop being pretentious and try to make sense. Now I havent seen the movie, but come on, be nice. It's trying and it is a movie, HOW DARE YOU JUDGE.

it has a lot of frights that's for sure, maybe some even overexcessive but it's creepy and dark as it gets
really love Jessica Chastain, she's pretty bad at the start of the movie but she slowly transforms into a caring, nurturing foster mother
the child actors are really good which is a big shock and very scary acting all primal
some of this borrowed a lot from 'Sinister' which kinda threw me off because they have similarities
only 2 kills in the whole film but the good parts are the dark shadows and the uneven feeling of an evil presence lurking around
the final act was pretty damn predictable and relied to heavily on special effects, not too bad a watch though

Is it possible that the house was made over several decades back instead of remaining a house form the 19th century?  Maybe?  Possibly?  People do rebuild houses...

Did anyone see the short movie it was based off of? No doubt. I think this reeks of disappointment. Chastain was on Good Morning America basically telling us, "Brace yourself, all these films you're about to see in the near future, (something like seven of them) sat on the shelf for a while until Zero Dark Thirty and Lawless..."

Co-Host and Leon, Guillermo Del Tor was only a producer on The Orphanage, and that was fucking amazing. So, clearly, he doesn't have to direct them to be good.
