The trick to classic stories that have been done in one form or another, you need to change the POV. That's what made such ventures like Wicked or the Princess Bride successful. Something Fassbender said about actual sets vs CGI: with a screen, you're rolling the dice that you get the right intensity of the reaction right. A set you can respond to with good timing.

this got 52% on RottenTomatoes 'It's enthusiastically acted and reasonably fun, but Jack the Giant Slayer is also overwhelmed by digital effects and a bland, impersonal story'.

pretty straightforward and really no surprises
it's one big giant action fantasy taken from the old fairy tale of Jack and The Beanstalk
the acting is quite phenomenal to be candid, these actors know what they're doing with this material
I really like Ian McShane, Ewan McGregor and Nicholas Hoult even the princess by Tomlinson
the action and the special effects kick so much ass even if it is violent for little children
it never takes a breath which is refreshing since the boredom never sinks in
I just didn't feel for anyone and the movie itself is almost hollow and devoid of any humanity
but for an afternoon 'Jack The Giant Slayer' is a passable feat

again the princess is cute but not insanely hot

I say if you want fairy tale stories, I just say whatever Hollywood makes, Once Upon a Time does better:

    Giants: Check

Little Red Ridinghood AND Snowwhite: Check Check

Fucking Hansal and Gretal WITH the Evil Queen of Snowwhite: Check mate!

Part of the movie is based on "Jack and the Bean Stalk." There is a fair tale called "Jack the Giant Killer," which the movie is also based on. Both fairy tales are similar (I think Jack the Giant killer came first).

This must be another case of terrible trailers.  You guys almost made this movie interesting to me.  Until I think back to the trailers and it just seems like the blandest thing ever.  Fun review, but not enough to make me seek out this film in any way.  ;-p

Sorry for the autoplay trailer - Hollywood changed a setting on their end. We've got it fixed and it should be working correctly from here on out.

i dont really agree with Cyrus.

I dont think that all action adventures need a hero whos a funny smart ass. Personly i dont think me need all those funny comments who takes  the drama out of the movie.

I mean it seems that with these types of movies Cyrus always says he wants something funny out of it, and i dont really see why.

They really needed to re-title this?

Saw this for free at a pre-screen back when it was originally supposed to come out....pretty run of the mill movie with some nice art direction for a handful of the giants. I'm very curious (maybe someone can answer this) as to if whether or not they left in the animated/cg intro explaining the giants land above and how it came to be. Other than that the movie is pretty forgettable but wouldn't doubt its one of the more enjoyable out of the fairy tale re-tellings since they've all been letdowns.

Co-Host, buddy, here's some helpful and polite criticism. I know you've said that you've been expanding your vocabulary (which is cool!) so here's a place you can improve it: At the beginning of your wrap-ups you say, "well I agree with all your points/everything you've said." It just gets kind of repetitive. Hope this helps!
