I would give this movie a Rental, just because of the fantasy that it brought up with all the mythology.

As a huge fan of the percy jackson books, this movie is a disgrace, i think these books are even better than harry potter. These books deserved better

Grover should have been played by Torgo from Manos instead

I don't believe Korey was wrong at all for his comments on the satyr character grover.....I didn't go see the movie just because i saw that coming a mile away. Once i knew that Percy was the son of Poseidon and his girlfriend was the daughter of Athena or sumin' like that and Grover was a freakin' Goat, i was llike this is some racist B.S.!!! After a while you just get fed up with seein' black sidekicks portrayed like this. As soon as they said Grover ate a soda can, i said to my self, "I bet they made this dude eat either a strawberry, grape, or orange soda can....Let me ask you this, are you black??? Did you find the Twin Autobots offensive in the Transformer two movie??? Did you find the Autobot that died in the first Transformer movie offensive??? Wat's really confusing is that you believe the movie depicts White men with beards are depicted as vicious and wife abusing and dead beat dads, nooooo That's just the way the god's are that's what they did, all the god's are pretty much sculpted and painted with beards....soooooo, i'm sorry this movie was totally racist and spit on black character development everywhere

Korey, I think you took the Satyr character too seriously. The fact that his obnoxiousness makes you think black people and that they are being stereotyped means that you are giving that stereotype validity. I saw the movie and I did not think blacks were portrayed poorly or in a poor light. If anything the movie is racist towards white men with beards. They are depicted as vicious, wife abusing, dead beat dads.

I've read the book, and the fight at the end of the move was not as good as the book fight.

*Quoted from wikipedia* In Greek mythology, satyrs (Ancient Greek: Σάτυροι, Satyroi) are a troop of male companions of Pan and Dionysus — "satyresses" were a late invention of poets — that roamed the woods and mountains. In mythology they are often associated with sex drive and vase-painters often portrayed them with perpetual erections. the author meant to use "faun" do you want your kids reading a series where the sidekick is a horney black guy who balances pottery on his constant erection? Sounds like a mythological viagra commercial.

@stalksthemoon, the book is exponentially better. It's not quite Harry Potter, but it does have some depth to it, plus it has great characters and a witty and amusing writing style. The movie moved quickly enough that I wasn't bored by it, though I do agree that it had bad characters and acting. Still, I'd give it a low matinee...unless, of course, you are a fan of the books and are unable to lower your expectations by a lot (which I did), in which case you should avoid this film, because it will PISS YOU OFF.

The worst part is definently medusa. She was so bad acted and there was no point in that character. In Greek mythology she dies anyway so they brought her in so they didn't have to think more of ways to fill the film up. When I think about it it's a 2 and a half star film really. So its really a high mattine for me. I don't like how they are giving them slap stick and bringing in pokerface to get kids and teens more interested in Greek Mythology. It just doesn't take itself seriously enough. Overall though it isn't bad. The effects are very good for the average kids film. Nothing revolutionary but good. The story doesn't go slow in my opinion. It feels like the film gets over with quick enough so you won't really get bored. This is a good movie for parents to take there kids and possible teens. **

At least they had and ending and didn't pull that golden compass bullshit where there is a cliffhanger at the end.

What a dull and boring movie. Who would've thought such a great concept would be so boring. Bad acting, effects, generic and boring story and characters. I certainly hope the book was better then this, because right now I don't see why it has a following.

Gawd, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who was pissed off by the token black goat. I don't expect much from CC films, but I expected more than this. Why, Rosario, WHY? You are too hot for this shit... Great review anyway, dudes! More entertaining than the film, I'm sure...

Korey likes to add stereotypical comedy in his reviews (see Book of Eli), which is fine, it shows that he has a sense of humor, (and me not getting upset about it, shows I do too). I think he thought (and so did I that...) the black guy in the movie was also suppose to be a kind of god (given the previews), but turned out to be young Chris Tucker (no disrepect to Mr. Tucker, he's hella funny). Sure, I like to say a joke or two like the next man a la John Crichton, but let's let the kid expand his acting skills a little too. I guess it's hard to do that acting like an "ass". I'm not or was never planning on seeing the movie, but very funny review.

Again, they took a great series, and wonderful concept written by Rick Ryorden and his ideas were taken and warped. Thank you Hollywood. Grover was a great character in the book, he was charismatic and Percy's guide through this new world as a half-blood. Percy was a wise cracking kid with a quick wit and sharp tongue and they played off each other in the books wonderfully. They took a main protagonist completely out of the movie, Ares' daughter, and left Ares' designs to send Percy off track as nothing noteworthy. Lets just stop taking good books and destroying them people

THIS IS A LONG COMMENT I KNOW BUT AFTER READING THE COMMENTS I JUST HAD TO SAY A LITTLE MORE THEN GREAT JOB GUYS. I’ve decided to throw my two pennies in to this black whole of comments and believe it or not I took the time to read ever single one of the comments posted up to mine. @ Chameleon Korey tries his hardest not to call everything out because as I have been listening (and it has almost been two years) to him he understand that the things he says can be easily misconstrued as him being overly sensitive about the racial aspects of a movie. That being said every now again there are things that can be said about any stereotype in a movie of any race or gender but if the story in the movie is not told all that good then a bad stereotypical character simply add insult to injury. There are even some movies where movie is overall a good one but a stereotypical character can take the movie down a notch or two for some viewers. I could go on for volumes about race and stereotype but I’m just not that boring. But I can say this that Korey has already stated in his comments and other recording that he doesn’t like stereotypes in movies generally. I’m sure he would like people know how he feels about movies as he has made it more or less one of the most important things in his life to let people know what movies are worth watching and which ones are not. But it often feels to me that when Korey actually says what is on his mind certain people seem to force him in to a corner where he finds himself unable to voice his opinion. It’s not that I always agree on every review he does or the other guys do but I enjoy his opinion most of the time and I almost always find it fun to listen to him even when he gets mad because I know this is how he feels about a movie and no ones putting words in his mouth or telling him what he can’t say. @ Kim I’m trying to see how you are not centering out Precious (based of the novel Push). There is no other movie I can think of right now that is popular that puts black women in that light. That movie is a very true and very rich story of hope in the darkest of circumstances it does put black women in a very dark light. But this is a story of hope that everyone especial African-Americans need to see and need to hear because there are people that need to know there is a why out of any terrible situation a person might find themselves in no matter what color on gender that person might be. @Uzipops well said way to tell it like it is. @David, Elyk and Matthew I’ll let everyone else let you guys know just how silly and ridiculous your comments were because most of what I’ve said in response to Chameleon is also directed at all of you as well. BTW just so you don’t get me confused I am black (thus my name) and I prefer to keep my comments short and to the point but these comment caught my eye so I felt compelled to say something. On a lighter note that was too funny Jive Goat/ Jive Turkey I played that clip a few times I was laughing so hard. What can I say I’ll still try to check this movie out when in goes to video same goes for Wolf Man. But man Korey keep speaking your mind because it is always interesting and fun and this is a great review and it may be one of the few reviews that I get from itunes as I usually only get ACOCO LDT and LEOG podcasts. Oh and I can’t wait for the Call-in Show and an all new LET’S DO THIS!!!

I read the book and the satyr was really good character and later in the series gets more of a important role. Somtimes Kory does look to into a movie for raciest stuff like in their review of "the blind " where i didnt even notice that stuff until i saw the review but in this case i have to agree with him in the fact that they should't have done this and it was to over the top to completely change a character so they could have a funny black sidekick.
