I don't understand how these background character actors that are only mildly amusing keep getting starring roles. I might watch this movie if I was layed up sick and it was on TV, but there is no way I will pay to see this till I am old and senile...if then! Good call on the Jerry Lewis comparison.

saw this tonight here in the philippines...thank god I only paid a total of 5 american bucks for me and my girlfriend to see this movie....let me just say this flick sucked more cocks than a runaway shop vac in a rooster factory.....cage was ok but that is the only nice thing I have to say about it.....the story is about as fresh as an eighty year olds twat, and the characters were about as flat and lifeless as the tits on that eighty year old.....total waste of celluloid ..so cliche so predictable...and that jay buttshell guy...christ could they have picked a worse or older actor to play that part...he played 20? isnt that guy like 40.. I will never see another film with him in it he is terrible....fuck this movie there was no payoff and all the running around and fear of the trapped lady sorcerer amounted to shit at the end...the movie is dull and anticlimactic to say the least

This looks enjoyable and a lot better than Clash of the Titans, The Last Airbender or Jonah Hex.

I agree with this review.I give it a Matinee because Nicolas Cage and Alfred Molina were really fub to watch and the magic was cool.Plus you have Monica Belluci. And there's nothing wrong with that.

@ Fungus The more you know! also, I agree with you 110%.

@Shaddowkhan - That's what I'm saying: why even bother to try to put a scientific spin on magic (like they do in this movie), if your science is fundamentally flawed from the start? Just have it be magic and leave it at that.

Fungus that may bug you but lets get real this movie is about magic not logic and its fantasy they can create any reality they want.

Yeah, it's kinda sad the crap Cage is in now...Kick Ass was great, though! (even though it didn't do too well)

One of the things that absolutely bugs the hell out of me about this movie (and other movies and shows that use it) is the fact that they use the whole ridiculous "we only use 10% of our brains" myth. We don't use 10% of our brains, that's an old wives tale / myth / basic misunderstanding that somehow still sticks around. We actually use virtually ALL of our brain, but only about 10% AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT. Different parts of the brain control different things. For instance, if you smile and are happy, the "move the face muscles into a smile shape" part of your brain is active, and the "happy emotional feelings and chemicals" part of your brain is active. If you are frowning and angry, the "move the face muscles into a frown" part and the "angry emotional state" part are active. If you actually used 100% percent of your brain all the time, every single muscle in your body would be moving in all directions, you'd be simultaneously happy, sad, angry, depressing, ecstatic, scared, comfortable, you'd be awake AND asleep, and so on. Everything your brain controls would all be happening at once. I know that they want to tie magic and science together, but basing the whole thing on a fundamental misunderstanding about science kind of defeats the whole purpose.

ok, that vice ins a lil annoying, but he rocked in "She's Out of My League". I notice that you can't find your review of that movie anymore. Sketchy.

Why do you guys hate Jay so much?

  • July 16, 2010 at 8:09 PM, Kelly said ...

He does do character voices, that's the guy that voiced Hiccup in How to Train Your Dragon. It's also a pet peeve of mine when they unrealistically have a hot girl get with the dork without showing any reason for it other than to have the writers fulfill their fantasies on screen. Which is, pathetic. Godammit, you'll only encourage dweebs irl into deluding themselves.

This really didn't need to suck. EVERYONE needs to watch Inception - if you make that film a hit it'll prove that smart, complicated films that treat their audience like sentient beings, is what we all really want. There'll be no excuse for the studio to continue to put out crap.

every review gives a brief summary of the film. this is nothing new. I hate the main character. His voice reminds me of a bad Jerry Lewis impersonator without the comedic timing. Nicolas Cage's career depresses me, his last good film was Raising Arizona. Technically it was the Bad Lieutenant, but Im still split over that film.

Is it just me or are Spill audio reviews starting to sound more like summaries than reviews? I have to completely agree about the main character though. I watched an interview with him and he lacked charisma and his voice was pretty geeky. And if he is supposed to be 20 years old in the movie its a bold lie.
