    i love this review, and i love Co-Host's Liam Neeson XD

    after the taken video review, my sister got a green balloon and drew Liam Neeson's face on it. i think i need to find another balloon :)

    I was about to respond, then I realized that there almost no way to do that without giving away the "reveal." I'll just leave it at Liam Neeson's characters in Taken and Unknown are nothing alike. Even on the surface, they have nothing in common.

    Then again, it kinda comes down to how much anyone really needs to see this movie...I'd say you don't. Taken is not a perfect film, but it's much better than this. And not seeing Unknown won't hurt you at all.

    Well, no, because Qui-Gon Jinn (spelling) has nothing in common with the characters Neeson plays in both Taken and Unknown, who might as well be the same character. I'm not trying to argue that Unknown is a good film by any stretch of the imagination here. I'm just saying that comparing this movie to Taken is not only valid, but rather obvious.

    @ John Henry Eden v2.0 - Except that Taken had a straight-forward plot centered on a character whose motivation was clear and consistent. By your comparison, Unknown and The Phantom Menace are the same movie...just stop talking for now.

    @Shinigami64

    You're right. I don't know why anyone would compare this to Taken. It's not like they're both action movies about Liam Neeson kicking ass with a vengeance, or anything.

    Just watched this last night for the hell of it...it actually really sucks.

    I feel like this needs to be said more than anything concerning this movie: January Jones is a fuck-awful actress. She's really attractive in possibly the most bland way imaginable, and that's the only reason this chick is getting work. She can't change her expression. She can't change the inflection in her voice. That works fine for her role on Mad Men, but in this movie she fucking stinks. Now the plot...

    This movie is a convoluted hell-storm of stupid that expects you to forget or ignore the obvious throughout. It constrains itself by adhering to thriller conventions in the dumbest ways just to get the plot underway. Movies are constructed on predications of things we as viewers know and don't know. That's the reason why the movie expects us to believe that amnesia effects long-term memory when in fact it doesn't. Once things do get started, it still feels a little too much like he's trying to gather evidence for the hotel security team as opposed to any other reason. After all, he could just make a call or two and go home to straighten this shit out. There's never a moment where we have any reason to question if "Martin Harris" is who he says he is as the film keeps proving him right. But then once the big reveal occurs, this movie spirals into flat-out fucking retarded. The lady cab driver's stunt-driving notwithstanding, NOTHING makes sense about the climax and we're supposed to be too swept up in the action-y bullshit to catch that. Knowing that this was directed by the same guy that gave us Orphan and its laughably stupid plot twist, I expected "dumb." Once everything comes together in Unknown, no one's actions make any fucking sense.

    Comparing this to Taken is an insult...

    Am I the only one that thought this movie was just a Bourne rip off? I'm a Neeson fan but damn what a unoriginal lame story with a lousy climax. The PG 13 sex scenes didnt help either. If I wanted porn, I'd watched porn goddammit. lol

    Great review. This reminds me of the TV show "Nowhere Man", who also had his identity literally erased. In his case, it turned out to be a government/military conspiracy. Interesting show and probably an influence on later mystery/conspiracy shows, like Lost. Anyways, I have to agree with you guys on Liam Neeson. He kicks ass in every movie he's in.

    This seems like a remake of Taken.

    Saw it today, quite bad ass!  Liam Neeson is the next big action star, he commands the screen, despite a lackluster script.  I enjoyed the ending, made sense and set up the possibility of a sequel!

    Don't mess with the Neeson he has are a very particular set of skills; skills he has acquired over a very long career.
