Full Price! One of the year's best. Cyrus is right on

I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed this film. Low full price/high matinee from me.

I do not think Cory even entered this film with an open mind. I agree with Cyrus. A lot of chemistry between Damon and Blunt. Perhaps I am privy to the personality trait of Emily Blunt's character as warm, sexy, and quirky in a good way. Constantly comparing it to Dark City is a mistake as every film has to kind of stand on its own. I give it "Matinee".

PHZ-Sic You hit it right on the head. I loved seeing Mackie in another role, The chemistry between the characters worked for me and The Richardson and Thompson characters kept me watching. I am not a big Romantic guy so like Sunshine of the Spotless mind before it, this is one of the few films that circled around a love story that I dug. What a great cast...

sounds like Korey didn't really give it a chance before the movie even started.

Thank you. Christ, I loathe that movie. Although I'm not quite sick of the Philip K. Dick material just yet. We simply need competent directors to do his stories justice.

I'm with Cyrus on this one viz The Goofball Chemistry; I thought Damon and Blunt had a charming spark between them and I had no trouble believing this was a woman for whom David Norris would sacrifice everything. What annoyed me was the one Glaring Plot Hole (others may have mentioned in the comments, I haven't read them all) which is Why Didn't Elise Find David? I have trouble swallowing the whole Crazy For You premise -- that both of them are equally nutty for one another to the point of having their brains scrambled -- if Elise isn't as invested as David is in re-connecting, and while SHE may have been one woman in a city of 6 million, HE was just a phone call away. She knows everything about him, he's an ex-Congressman recognized on every street corner; why didn't she just Google his ass and call him in that 3 year span?

I'm ready to call a moratorium on Philip K Dick books and stories at this point, though, aren't y'all? MINORITY REPORT may have been one of the stupidest, most pointless screenplays ever written and Hollywood doesn't seem up to the challenge of really thinking Dick's work through on the page. INCEPTION played like the greatest Dick Story (haha, "dick") ever written, but it took a genius like Nolan to write that fucker and see it produced; all this Dickian faux-existential claptrap is wearing me out now, though.

Still, I'd watch Matt Damon read Proust for 2 hours. Love him, and enjoyed this film.

I loved this film.  Corey.. you are a smart man and a great animator but what the cuss?? Damon and Blunt had chemistry as soon as they met in this movie. Full Price!  Thanks for agreeing Cyrus and thanks to all you guys for another great review.

I am glad it was not a rip off of Dark City, which I suspected.  Might Netflix later.  Thanks for the review!

All I could think of when I saw the trailers for this was Dark City.

I loved this movie. the time skips were a little off, but they didn't take away from the movie enough for me, instead they just made Matt damon's character have to be more genuine to get Elise back. The ending was amazingly done and had me rooting for him to find what he was looking for even though I expected him to fail. I'd give it a full price if I had a card.

I'm a bit split! it's a much better concept than in execution and I just wish it had been a bit more serious or directed by Aronofsky  but I love the Blunt! so I enjoyed it a lot, If you don't then you'll most likely find fault and I can't argue with that. Treat it like the goofy Twilight zone date movie it is and you'll be ok

    Matinee

    ;)

I fell asleep watching this. The only movie outside of Sherlock Holmes that I actually slept through in my

entire 25 year life of going to the theater.

I have to agree with Cyrus on this one. I just saw the film last night with a couple of friends and we enjoyed ourselves the entire time. Could they have gone a darker route with it? Yes, but I'm not upset that they decided not to.

[Minor spoilers] I do, however, have to disagree that there was no sense of danger. The members of the Adjustment Bureau weren't evil or sadistic men, but in the film they do mention instances when death had been a tool for adjustment (i.e. David Norris' father and brother); and at one point they cause a car wreck in an attempt to stop David from meeting up with Elise. That made my friends and me ask the question, Do I put it past the Adjustment Bureau to see David's tenacity as enough of a reason to incur something like death to solve this problem?

Also, one last thing: even without the danger of impending death, at one point the fate the two characters were facing if they were to get caught was the equivalent of being lobotomized. Which, if you cared for the characters by that point (which we certainly did) is enough to build suspense.

    @ darker knight

yeah, it totally doesn't show anything sci-fi in the trailer, exept the premiss they explain to us, the scanner thing they used on a guy to make him freeze, the doors that lead to diffrent areas after you close them

    yeah, totally not anything scifi...

I have to agree with Cyrus on this review. It is a low full price. I really enjoyed the film, the chemistry between Damon and Blount, and also it was nice seeing Anthony Mackie and his role in the film. Never was bored in the film and I do agree that the trailer is misleading but I noticed most films either have 70s exploitation type of trailers (tells you everything) or mislead with their trailer (ie Rango). If you like romantic films with somewhat of a spiritual/sci-fi edge, you'll def. enjoy this.

***ALSO*** to anyone who is complaining a lot about this film and calling it a "chick flick" and anyone who sees it "is gay"...well, go fuck yourself. If you didnt like it that much, go cry a river to some IMDB message board or something.

you over hyped yourself thinking it was a "sci fi action movie" when the trailer never even shows anything to make you think that. WHAT? people running around the city..WITH a girl..while guys in suits point to him? It wasnt that misleading, it was only misleading in good ways, like...more character development than expected...and the Bureau members being more interesting than they needed to be.

How about this...ANYONE who reads comments like that, and uses that as evidence,  that "the movie will be bad"...Well then your an idiot!!!

The movie wasnt jaw-dropping...it wasnt action packed...it wasnt some huge adventure...and it wasnt JUST a romantic movie. It was a Romantic Thriller with Sci-Fi elements, all used very well.

I'll put it this way, if any of you are interested in the idea of fate and/or free-will...and looks for movies that involves that heavily in it's plot, then this movie would be perfect for you.

I am one of them...and I loved it.

I too agree with Land Rollins and now The Darker Knight about having a Co-Host and Leon review.

  • March 05, 2011 at 3:54 AM, Mark Hazleton Jr. said ...

I agree w/ Land Rollins....a review from Co-Host and Leon would be IDEAL for this movie.

this is one of those films that the opinions will be widely varied.

Personally I agree w/ every single thing that Cyrus said. I do see what Korey is saying, but I definitely can't agree.

After seeing the chemistry in SO many movies in the past year that felt so off...this definitely did have pretty perfect chemistry....YEA maybe she was a bit weird at times (that blackberry in the coffee part actually made me go "what a bitch!" lol)...but besides that, I kept hoping they would stay together, and it was more romantic than i expected.

The chemistry was great...the Bureau was VERY interesting and flawed in a good way (how none of them are perfect...and they have their weakness).

I kept worrying about seeing this because I thought "ok i get the plot...but how is it gonna end? this could end up being one of the worst endings of the year"...when it got closer and closer to the end, i was like "oooh boy...not looking good" THEN...when it got there, I was very happy about the outcome. It was explained but not explained too much...just the perfect ammount, and made me then look back on each character carefully and made me like it even more.

Every actor was really good in the film..both funny and likeable (even the well dressed stalkers lol).

the cinematography was even great at times...it made it feel like NYC was the PERFECT location for a film like this, because there is so much connection, but also a sea of people to get lost in...NYC actually felt like another character.

Overall I was pleasantly surprised by it, and literally the ONLY thing that bugged me was the very few parts that it said stuff like "Three Years Later"...those never feel needed in movies unless done right. Or even just show that its 3 years later through good dialogue (like a news channel saying "its been 3 years since David Norris' incredible speech that boosted his ratings" because that would have made it a high full price for me).

I said in my last comment it was "the perfect matinee movie"...and it was, since i saw it hours ago...BUT...i would have been just as happy if i paid full price..so i give it a low Full Price.

I highly reccomend it to anyone who just likes a simple Sci-Fi movie that doesnt rush anything, but also isnt in-your-face. it made it seem slightly possible (since we would never know whether its true or not lol)...and the calmness of it helped so much. It made it feel like the ULTIMATE Big Brother film.
