    Giamatti's character ripping off the old man reminds me of what happened to my grandma.I have a cousin who went to court to have my grandma put in his care. He's a respected member of the Navy, and went into court presenting himself as a loving grandson who wanted to take care of his ailing grandmother. As soon as the judge put her in his care he threw her into the most low-rent nursing home he could find and left with his family to another state. So there she is in the type of nursing home you end up seeing on Dateline, and this a$$hole is collecting her social security, living with his wife and kids in a new house they bought. Eventually one of my aunts got my grandma put into here care and she took care of her for the next year or so until my grandma died. My aunt actually got in touch with the social security people and encouraged them to go after my cousin for using my grandma's social security money for himself, but they didn't seem interested and eventually she gave up.

    Actually, McCarthy didn't have anything to do with the Rosenberg case other than helping to create the national hysteria that allowed for their execution.

    @ It's Just Ryan

    Yeah, I would say they count.  I actually don't know much about them outside of them being spies.   I don't know that McCarthy was personally responsible for their execution either...   And I mean that I don't know because I just don't have enough info on the subject.   My point earlier was, just wondering if people would hassle him (McCarthy) just because of his name...   In fact it would seem hypocritical...

    I think I would watch a breakfast commercial if it included Paul G. in it.  I know, I know Lady in The Water is not the greatest work; however, he does make it very watchable.  I will def. be looking for this movie.

    Does the execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg not count?

    Damn it, I'll have to wait for Netflix with this one. That's the only thing that sucks about living in a small suburb. Only one arthouse theatre.

    @John Henry Eden v2.0

    Well, I don't know...  Certainly McCarthyism was a dark point in history for the American entertainment industry.  He didn't send people to internment camps or try to kill a bunch of people...  Well, he would have prolly, if he could have...  He did ruin lives, destroy dreams and turn people into rats...   Still (imo) the scale between the two is off by about a magnitude...   The only other person I can think of is Jenny McCarthy....  I wonder if they really have run into any stigma.   Maybe I'm being naive...

    @Kubla Veruca

    Well, he already has my sympathies. I can't say I'm familiar with his work, but McCarthy is probably the worst last name you could have next to Hitler.

    I saw the trailer for this sometime last week, right before it was advertised on IMDB. Just that sorta tangential clicking that takes you nowhere, except I just saw it. I was thinking, "What kinda movie calls itself "WinWin". Are people capitalizing on a Sheenism already? But, something made me watch it, I was diggin' it right off, and then it said "From the Director of The Station Agent" and "The Visitor". My mind screamed, "I'm IN!" I love the Characters in these movies... Thomas McCarthy may be my favorite director at this point... I gotta see this movie.... There is something about McCarthy that reminds me of Paul Thomas Anderson. But, except for "There Will Be Blood", his movies (the ones I've seen) seem fractured. hmm...after diggin a bit I see that Paul Giamatti and Ron Pearlman making in "Bubba Nosferatu". A prequel to Bubba Ho-Tep. interesting....
