You guys are awesome :D If you're nerdy like me, you should watch Big Cat Diary! They follow lions and cheetahs and leopards. It's sweet, and definitely dramatic.

    KITTIES!!

All "story-telling" aside, I will go see this.  And yes, I know this is more Disney nature documentary tripe, but I grew up on this along side Wild Kingdom ("We'll wait here while Jim pats this rhino on the ass!") so I got a good balance.  Additionally, my college mentor has done a lot of studies on big cats in Africa, and when I say "in Africa," I mean IN Africa, particularly the Tsavo lions from 1897 (don't know 'em, look 'em up) so I have that as an additional drive to see this.  I'm sure he'll be seeing this, too, with the kids so it will make for interesting future conversation.

Wife and I saw this over the Earth Day weekend and I agree with everything the Spill crew said! It wasn't your typical nature film on Animal Planet or BBC documentary (let's face it we've all seen that movie before), instead Disney took special liberties in giving these animals a bit of character. I don't see anything wrong with that as long as they are still playing out real events. I'm sure there was a little (lots) of editing to manipulate the outcome, but I still walked away from it satisfied, never bored and the feeling as though I learned something along the way. The movie does start to drag on length wise, but it's never a huge issue.

I can't wait to see Chimpanzee next year! If they stick with this story-propelled format it could be even better than African Cats.

    Full Price from me!

Maybe it's me being English and being raised on the BBC nature documentaries but this doesn't sound good. I might wait until it's on dvd and give it a chance.

One thing they didn't mention about cheetahs is that once they do get their pray, it takes about a half hour before they can drag it back to their den/family. Because if their aerodynamic bodies they have small teeth and need to hold onto the pray to fully kill it. If they don't rest their brains can over heat and be badly damaged. so during that time any other preditor can swoop in during the cheetahs moment of weekness.

reading through other reviews of this film too...seriously out with this disney bullshit. fine if you want to make animated films this way, good for small kids, but when you use real animals then it becomes exploitative and just disrespectful. there's good reason why the status quo british/french nature documentary is neutral and standoffish, because the natural world does not exist for our fucking entertainment.
