i liked this movie a lot and the only thing i had a complaint, a minor one, about the movie was the weird angle shots that kinda took me out of the movie

Personally I go to the  audio reviews for a more streamline and shorter version. The audio reviews I like longer with more information. So for me personally I prefer the audio reviews to be longer with more stuff.... Tell Some Jokes!

On a rating from 1-10, 1(crap)------5(average)------10(Wicked Awesome!), this is what I think of the film:

***POSSIBLE SPOILER, DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE YET***

***POSSIBLE SPOILER, DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE YET***

***POSSIBLE SPOILER, DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE YET***

Being one of the privileged folks to see the costume test photos before production pics came out for the movie, I gotta' say, I was worried. Everything was leathery or rubber looking(which I still don't get; why do Holly Wood superhero costumes need to be leather? Not only does it look uncomfortable for the actor, but it looks downright silly). But more and more production stills started coming out afterward, and it didn't look like they were changing anything up with the costume direction. I suppose it helps to add in the grandeur of their lovely environment, that is Asgard.

Another thing that took things away from it, for me at least, was special effect's quality was jumping around ALOT throughout the film. Being a bit of an animator myself, it was hard not to notice that there were some scenes that were touched up at the last moment, and others that were worked on for a while. The "chopper hammer" seemed like a quick tune-up job. The one that bothered me the most and was so noticeable, was Loki's transformation fluctuation when dialoging with Odin. I think the animators assigned to that scene who did the effect of his face, also did the effects for the puzzle-wall thingy behind him that kept disintegrating, in the Vault room, as the quality of both were kinda' TV-ish. Not taking anything away from them, though, as I'm sure it's more than I could ever do. Of course, one could argue that Marvel likes to work on a strict budget, as they're still young for a movie studio, so special effects budgets are limited. Get what ya' pay for. But still. Not horrible, just could've been touched up a bit more.

The writing and editing could've been better, to be honest. There are points in the movie that move a bit fast, plot wise. Not too fast to where things aren't explained, just to the point where certain things are quickly moved along. Not much subtlety. It's hard to explain it in-depth, without spoiling the plot for other people who haven't seen it yet, so I'll just leave this as a vague point for now.

I know it seems like I'm just giving negative points on this movie, but there are some saving graces. The acting by the central actors are what really save this movie. Chris Hemsworth surprised me, and pulled off the arrogant but likable charisma of Thor. Any other actor in his place probably wouldn't have pulled this off. Anthony Hopkins was believable as a majestic Odin(though I preferred Neil Gaiman's take on the character). The one thing I found strange, was how Colm Feore played a better villain(King Laufey) than Tom Hiddleston(Loki). Laufey is that of the Brute. Loki's is that of the liar.

The comics always depicted Loki as a trickster, conniver, or liar...ALWAYS...there's never any doubt that's what he is, even in childhood. Essentially, we end up seeing this, but the direction that was taken with his character was a bit of a let down. He was more whimpering, than conniving. The other characters make small remarks over his trickery being his mainstay at the beginning of the movie, yet we never really see it in action(acting wise, not magic). He's silent, mouse-ish, trying to give a bashful look. I would've thought his dialogue would always be spoken with a subtle smile and charm, hiding his treachery. As if Satan himself would walk up to your girlfriend, and woo her away from you, right in front of your face. Brannagh's direction was more of an empathetic, jealous character type's take on Loki. Not that it's bad, as in the royal family, jealousy is what also drives him. It's just that we don't see enough of his evil charm to fully like him as a villain. Though a bit milquetoast in the beginning, we do see this coming out of him in the end...but not enough of it. I can only hope that Joss Whedon direct's his villainy a bit more in tune with his comic-counterpart in the Avengers movie, as his current take doesn't look like it would hold a candle to the combined charisma of celebrities playing the heroes.

An honorable mention goes to the action sequences: they are fun and awesomely done. The Frost Giant battles are the scene stealers. The Destroyer was pretty cool, despite the complaints of others. Has one mean back-hand/pimp slap. The only thing I could find fault with the scenes isn't really the action itself, but the strange score attached to some of them. Some of the chosen score for some of these action scenes seemed more like they were made for a subtle dramatic scene, rather than action. Just bothered me every time the music came in. It seemed out of place.

All in all, I know it seems like I'm smashing this film, but in the end, it's not a bad movie. This film had the makings to be a silly, train-wreck of a horrible film. However, Brannagh proved most wrong, and surprised many with it being so enjoyable. I was hoping that at least, it wouldn't be crap, and it proved to be much better handled  than I expected. I'd say it's above average, but not one of the greats. So if you're looking for a deep, cinematic experience, this is NOT the movie for you. If you're looking for surprising popcorn fun, and not a film snob who scoffs at fun superhero movies, than you are in for a treat.

    I give it: 6.5

this movie was nothing special at all to me...it was better than i originally expected it to be, and there were a few cool scenes, but it was just kinda lame most of the time, i would say its more of a high rental low matinee...i dont completely hate that fact that i used money on this, but id probably have felt more pleased if i had wait for it to come out on bluray and have netflix send it to me

I personally thought the romance was played a bit too fast.  But i can understand her obsession with finding Thor again....i mean look at the guy he's perfection!!!  If Edward Cullen remotely looked like Chris Hemsworth i can totally understand Bella's stupid obsession with  that sparkly bastard..

MavenCree you had to post that picture again!!!

I thought that Portman and Hemsworth sold the romance based on their chemistry alone. You could tell right from the start that there was definitely a huge attraction there, and the coy way they kept batting at each other like cats with yarn only made it work better. I think MavenCree is on the right track where it seems like a wartime romance sort of situation - he lands on Earth and suddenly there's this woman who he feels an instant attraction to (and she apparently feels the same way) and your lives sudden and incredibly intertwine and then POOF! Reality sets in and you have to part ways. I thought it was a great way to handle their relationship, especially if you know their history in the comics and what's coming down the pipe for them.

I saw some extra footage being filmed online.  There are more scenes of the romance thing.  Maybe if it starts pulling in more money, they'll pull a King's Speech and re-edit and re-release it with those scenes.  (at the very least, they should do it for the blu ray). I do wish the movie as a whole was a little longer, but I still find the romance believable.  I don't think they're in love, but it was definitely (and literally) a whirlwind romance.

    Spoilerish schtuff.:

The spark was there - the attraction, the possibility... and then they were separated.

Sort of like war-time romances.  Not a lot of time together, but during a time of stress- a spark and then a separation.  The romance builds in absence.  What comes after... well, I guess that's why Sif's there. :-)

And I wasn't saying that Thor wasn't around strong women.  With who his people are, that's a given.  Just that with his position in society, (and with the exceptions of Sif and his mom), he' probably doesn't get a lot of dressing down from women - or men for that matter.  (I really, really liked seeing him dressed down though *g*) He *is* the prince after all.  So when a lowly human dares to do it - it catches his attention.  When she does the 'no smashing' thing, she looks away after and he's got a 'hmm, interesting' look on his face.

Me, I run into *that* guy, I forget my name and how to stand, let alone telling him what to do. *g*  Let's enjoy again, shall we?

Personally, I don't give two-tenths of a shit about the audio reviews. Its not that I hate them, its just that I generally don't care what people think about movies, I enjoy the shorter video reviews because sometimes they are brilliantly funny.

LOL! Maybe your right.  Not being a guy, perhaps I am not able to fully appreciate Natalie Portman's hotness. Yeah, she doesn't really do anything for me.  Now Olivia Wilde...

I just saw this movie last night, and enjoyed it.  I agree with what the review said... it had its minor problems like the romance taking place so quickly, but overall a very good movie and I’d recommend it to anyone.

As for the audio review edits, in general I prefer the audio reviews as opposed to the video ones because they have more content.  You find out more about your opinions and it feels like I’m sitting there with you drinking some beers talking about a movie.  I like the original edit because that seems more like what you guys are doing when you’re bullshitting afterward, making fun with each other and going off on more tangents.  I also like the re-edit because it had alot of the same the jokes yet was tighter and more to the point of the review.  If I had to choose only one style though, I guess it would have to be the original edit.  What got me into spill was listening to your audio reviews because I liked the tangents and random places you guys go in the extended reviews, so cutting some of it out could take out some of the funniest parts of your reviews.  But either way, I really enjoy the reviews, so keep them coming. They’re awesome.

@Harial Let me give you a guy point of view here, Natalie Portman s not any chick , that woman is HOOOT, but most important she is the love interest because she s part of the transformation that Thor goes through to become more humble.

    @MavenCree

I don't want to get into a back and forth however I don't buy him not being around strong women.  As you already pointed out, there is Sif(whom if I am not mistaken is his lover in the comic) and his mother does not strike me as a pushover either.  But then again, I may be wrong.  That movie took place over the course of only a few days and she domesticated him so quickly my head spun.  He went from an arrogant prick to serving eggs like a good little house husband practically over night.

I think my issues though probably stem from my job and what I do for a living.  I work in publishing and more specifically romantic novels so I really require a believable and fleshed out storyline and things look terribly off when I don't get that. I'm thinking that I may just want more from the movie.  I probably would have been ok with them making it longer but at the same time, I can see why they made it how they did.  the pacing would have slowed down a lot if they had focused more on the relationship and lets face it, this movie a summer action blockbuster, not Kate and Leopold.
