    it kinda bothers me the way my mom and grandmom just eat up these tyler perry movies. they're all the same in the end. medea's funny when she's in them,but that's it. it's nice that this is something a little different than his usual.

    Tyler Perry cant seem to make a good movie. That being said, i saw the movie and i do agree with you guys that it is his best film, but its not a good movie though. Eye rolling melodrama and poor executed soliloquies are one of the films problems at least in my opinion. I give it a rental

    This was Tyler Perry's best so far. I definitely liked the style of the film. The whole cast really gave a great performance. Janet's character had an okay story but I think they could have deleted all her drama, and then the movie would have been just as good or maybe even better.

    @Cassie Precious wasn't really a tyler perry movie. He only was a producer thankfully...

    Comment by Palladiamorsdeus just now Delete Comment I am sure this is over by now, but if it isn't, then please end it. Agree to disagree, and move on. No need to get insulting with it. Sometimes people just won't see eye to eye. Leave it at that.

    I think the only person who wins in this argument is the only person who's not involved in this argument. So I win ;)

    I'll like to serve as mediator. Um I do not think that this should turn into a race issue or this should be the forum to blast peoples opinions about the film. This started off as a healthy forum to get the word out about peoples thoughts and so people can agree and disagree about the review. I think first and foremost its healthy to talk about issues such as race but this is not the place to do it. After reading a few comments I believe that @Florentina was just saying what see thought about the film and Tyler Perry's work and it was skewed as something of an issue about race. I think that Tyler Perry's films tend to be a little terrible from time to time and has gotten worst from film to film. The man is trying to do better but he just cant translate stage to film. I feel like people are latching on and grabbing for straws by thinking that this is the way African Americans think and that is not the case he is just one man not the whole community.

    Jesus Christ, Fiorentina: What is it with you? Every place you comment on quickly becomes a keyboard battlefield, and you're always on the frontline. Seriously, what's up with that?

    @Nedan

    You're expecting valid insight on youtube of all places? Unfortunately I cant answer your question about why anything with race turns a board into some sort of a vocab brawl. Besides that its interesting to hear that TP has according to Leon moved forward as a director.

    @Karl I have to say that the Skyline banner looks pretty damn awesome.

    I wouldnt pay them any attention Fiorentina you are arguing with old 50 yr old nerds with nothing better to do then start racial arguments. O.B Howard dosent understand what you are talking about he just want to impress his white friends so he dosent loo like the "whining black guy" to them, he is just an asshole. the more you give these guys attention the longer this crap will drag on.

    Why is it that whenever anything relating to race comes up there are these huge arguments in the comments. I checked youtube for the trailer for this movie and the blatantly hate filled words I saw in the comments made me literally feel sick. Great review guys here's one I'll probably rent with my girlfriend but I just hope that she doesn't hate me by the end of it. Me being one of those "evil" black men and all.

    @ John Henry Eden v2.0, I understand your point, but I'm not so much as referring to technical aspects of the film, I'm talking more about the feelings the film invokes, how it syncs to what I know to be true, how it plays in my head, how I feel after I watch the movie. A movie about a Police Detective solving a murder, would be better critiqued by a policeman (or woman), than by someone who is not because they have the experiences to draw from and create parallels. Yes, they could deem if the movie is bad or not, based on what they know and then they could further maybe add things like bad lighting, dialog seems unrealistic, etc. Technical speaking, the movie may be flawed, but often times it's the people who are not Black, that don't like the movies Tyler Perry puts out, whereas more so the people who are Black, really like his movies. These same people who like his movies, also like the movies you like. I just find that interesting and point to the fact, that if you are not of the traditional American Black experience (i.e. growing up in an Urban area, or in a neighborhood that is 90% black) you just won't get it the same way someone who is from that experience would. Of all the Tyler Perry movies that I've seen, there is one that I don't like, and another that was not that good. They are "I Can Do Bad All By Myself" and "Meet the Browns" in that order. Just because I'm Black doesn't make me automatically like the movies, but for people to not like any of them, not love, but like...

    @Antonio U. That's a very tenuous argument, in my opinion. It's like saying that a woman's review of a chick flick has more clout than a man's. It's like saying that a child's review of a children's movie is somehow superior to an adult's. It's like saying that a Thai prostitute's review of a movie about Thai prostitutes is more convincing than anyone else's. I personally believe it's very much possible to critique a film that is not directed at you as an audience by simply ignoring all subjective notions and base the review solely on the technical aspects of the film.

    @JiggyPop you're right again. I am black and don't play the victim card. our lives are governed by the choices we make not by the color of our skin in these present days. But of course the past was different, just not now as of 2010. Come on people! get over this race thing! And @ randy, his movies are pretty bad despite the Madea character, she is funny. But these movies are MADE FOR BLACK WOMEN. So I do expect certain themes like: ALL BLACK MEN ARE EVIL DOGGISH BASTARDS. Except for the handful of douchebags who can't even tie their shoe without a woman.

    I thought the title of the movie basically said who should be watching the movie. Those are really the reviews/critiques that count the most no? I dunno, I could be wrong. I have noticed that Tyler Perry movies don't do too well on Spill, but I tend to like them anyway. Could it be that if you are White, trying to understand "the Black experience," that you just don't get it because you can't own it. It's like understanding why child prostitution occurs in Thailand. Yes, it's terrible, but do you focus on understanding it? No, you have your own problems. If the movie is called For Thailand Girls, do you think you would get more from it, than a girl from Thailand would?
