I volunteer at a parrot sanctuary, and you'll see a lot of parrots (Macaws and Cockatoos, mostly) that are like that "Predator Horse"- they'll just lunge at everybody standing outside of their cages. And for so many, it wasn't abuse, but neglect- or simply lack of proper socialization- so the bird just relies on their instincts. Today a Hyacinth Macaw boarded, and they're known for being the most gentle of the macaws, but when putting her in the cage she bit the handler three times, deep. She was just never handled enough when she was young, and that essential trust was never built. So often, domesticated animals will attack out of fear. Fear is a huge component with horses, they're fairly skittish animals.

And it's true that brain damage can be that deciding factor that prevents an animal from finding a permanent home- the amount of vulnerability that they have to compensate for is simply something you can't work around.

Though I understand what you mean about horses Leon. I don't necessarily hate or fear them, but I don't really like them that much either.
