    "So to anyone who is trying to say that we're just fanboys for liking this movie, you're just a fuckin' idiot. We watch Michael Bay movies because we want to be entertained for 2 hours. If you want amazing stories and plo then just give up on summer movies and wait until Oscar movie season Until then, the rest of us will be plenty happy watching shit blow up. It is after all, just a movie." This is a great summary to best describe the attitude that is absolutely the polar opposite of my own. I detest the notion that action is mutually exclusive from story and character, and it's more than a little narrowminded to believe that if someone has issues with the way these Transformers are made they should shut up and wait for Oscar season. If you acknowledge all the flaws of the Transformers franchise - racist robots, dumb humor, lack of character and story, etc. - and you still like it, isn't that the very definition of guilty pleasure? If you do think these movies are flawless - nonstop action punctuated by inane dialog and puzzlingly out of place childish humor - you really shouldn't be overly surprised if people question your intelligence, altough I suppose there's an inherent Catch-22 in the latter case. The argument isn't about what's entertaining - everyone decides for themsleves - my question is, "Is this the best Transformers movies they could make?" and I'm talking about an action-heavy flick, not Transformers reciting the Vagina Monlogues. I don't believe so, and my level of ire and disappointment is the expanse of the chasm between what I see and what I believe could've been.

    You know since this was filmed in Chicago, maybe at some point in the movie Batman will swoop in and save Optimus Prime's ass when things get rough.

    @FilmKiller

    I grew up with Transformers and to this day still buy a few toys whenever I'm in Japan. They got some dope transformers there. There's nothing better than having a puff and a laugh while watching a 1980's transformer cartoon marathon. I have the 1986 animated movie memorized word for word.

    Now I gotta admit, when I heard they were going to make a new movie in 2007 I was really hoping it would be an animation based on the Dreamwave comics. I really didn't see how they could make a decent believable live action movie out of Transformers.

    In every Transformer tv show or comic the main goal was to sell toys. Therefore story and logic were meaningless. The joy was to see the new robots introduced. See what they transformed into, what their weapons were, what their special abilities were and what role they played on their respective team: Autobot or Decepticon. We watched and read to admire the artwork and creativity involved in the design of these robots.

    I loved both of the live action movies. Not because I like stupid movies with no plot and bad acting, but because I appreciated what they had done with the design of the robots. Each and every robot is based on a character or toy from the past. What they did with them is F@#$%N awesome. My only complaint about the movies was the lack of dialog for the transformers. But at least Megatron, Prime, and Starscream's personality and dialogs were spot on. And in many ways Bumblebee is too.

    The bad humor, stereotyping, and over the top action and visuals are all very Transformery and I'm feeling it. If there is a movie franchise Bay should be directing, it's this one. But only this one lol. I can't possibly imagine any director turning these films into academy award winners. This is exactly what it needs to be. An epic toy commercial.

    I'm going to see this movie on Sunday in 4D. That's right, 4D! The chair will be moving, wind blowing in my face, and all that. It's gonna be sick.

    I understand if everyone here doesn't like this movie. That's your opinion. Or is it? Stop hating. These movies were made for people like me. And believe it or not there are a lot of us. Just look at the user ratings on rotten tomatoes

    The beginning of the trailer with the two Astronauts makes me think of 'Day Of The Dumpster'. I almost thought Rita Repulsa was gonna pop up and say 'It's time to conquer...err..Wrong Franchise."

    I think Carlyle said it best:

    "Fuck. Yes. Absent are the stepandfetchbots. Exiled is every bit of robot genitalia. And someone even told the Transformers to empty their bladders before the movie. Just about everything terrible that has come to annoy the living shit out of fans from the last two movies is gone. What’s left? Pure unadulterated Michael Bay for two hours and forty minutes. You read that right. Robots, cars and explosions for two hours and forty minutes. If that sounds terrible to you, then seriously, what the fuck are you doing even thinking about seeing a Michael Bay movie? If you’re still holding out hope that Bay has discovered such subtle nuances as “story”, “character” or “dialog” then I’ve got a bridge to sell you. Those ain’t his bag. Bay is the reigning king of blowing shit up, and here he manages to outdo even himself. And if that’s what you want out of TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON then you will clap and giggle like a three year old tasting ice cream for the first time."

    So to anyone who is trying to say that we're just fanboys for liking this movie, you're just a fuckin' idiot. We watch Michael Bay movies because we want to be entertained for 2 hours. If you want amazing stories and plot then just give up on summer movies and wait until Oscar movie season. Until then, the rest of us will be plenty happy watching shit blow up. @ FilmKiller

    You pretty much defined what I (and others at times) consider to be the fan-boy/girl. Someone with blind and pitiful devotion to the thing(s) they enjoy to the extent that they'll take table scraps and pretend it's a steak dinner...

    To me, that sentiment calls into question whether an individual really likes what they claim to like or are they incapable of admitting they may be wrong in some sense...

    I don't think it is possible for it to be as bad. Really?

    Bay still sucks when it comes to plot and characters, but he did manage to make a much more entertaining and tolerable Transformers movie this time around. Is it perfect? Hell no, but it was still a lot of fun. High Matinee.

    @Ged - I guess it depends on who you talk to. Everyone I know (even the ones who like the series) say it's just as bad as 2 was. It sounds like fans of the series will dig it, but anyone who didn't like one or both of the first two probably is going to hate this one just as much. Since I'm one of those people, I'm thinking it'll wait until I'm seriously desperate for entertainment and it happens to be on Netflix.

    Directed at the fans of Transformers that defend this series:

    You like the property - I get that. I'm not really into giant robots, but I can certainly identify with loving something so much that you're willing to look past its warts to enjoy getting something rather than nothing. However, I would think that you, as fans of the property, would be pissed more than anyone when they make movies like that. It seems some Transformer fans just want wall-to-wall robot-on-robot fight scenes; the idea of more story - which would take away from fight time - seems as though it's offensive, and if that's how you feel, you probably will get many people questioning your intelligence.

    Assuming you're not offended by efficient, cohesive story and tone - something that neither of the first two films achieved or even seemed to attempt - I just want to know why you don't demand more. Intense, regularly scheduled action is not mutually exclusive from good story and character, in fact I can only think both would increase the intensity.

    G.I. Joe (the comic and action figures only) and Star Wars were my two biggest occupations as a child and later Dungeons and Dragons, each property taking its turn at the whipping post being turned into a big fucking joke to the people who loved it, and an even bigger joke to the people who already hated it. I can help but feel when you see the inconsistent tone of the two Transformers films that Bay and those working for him don't really love nor understand the property. I'm not saying you're stupid for loving Transformers, but it sure seems like Michael Bay is.

    I think the first two movie suck, but I can see the cool stuff that's present (I think I went to go see the first film based on the shot of the dude slicing through the bus alone). I just wonder why, as Transformers fans, you don't demand more for the billion dollars you shoveled out to see it and buy the DVDs. Just like a bad relationship, if you settle for what they're giving you, you'll never get anything better - except perhaps by accident - nor do you deserve it.

    FULL PRICE! The action scenes were badass, the soundtrack wasnt linkin park on repeat, no annoying robots, story was pretty good, and once a character started getting annoying they were gone, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wasnt bad either. Definently the best of the trilogy

    @Fungusmonkey

    I get that it just seems there is so much hate for this series from the guys it really doesn't stand a chance. Look, I also watched 'Revenge' and wanted to use bleach and a wire brush to scrub my brain afterwards but strangely looking forward to this. Getting some serious mixed reviews but the word on the street is it seems like a good time.

    If that is the case count me in. Looking forward to the actual review.

  • June 29, 2011 at 9:09 AM, Fungusmonkey said ...

    @Ged - Yes, exactly. These "Pre-Reviews" are so they can examine the material that's out prior to the film (the marketing, the trailers, the stories and news, etc) and post their thoughts and expectations for the film as an average movie-goer. Then, once they see the film, they review it like usual as critics. If they expect it to suck from the trailers, and then it blows them away, they'll say so in the review. Look what happened with Thor - most of them thought it was going to suck, and then it ended up being much, much better than they thought. Or vice versa, they thought Green Lantern looked cool, but then it ended up being terrible.

    Personally, I like hearing the before (pre-reviews) and after (reviews).

  • June 29, 2011 at 8:15 AM, said ...

    So the critics hated it but Joe Public loved it.

    I will give it a shot then.
