    Co-Host is the voice of reason in this anti-Star Wars madness.

    @Noah the Viking

    Shut the fuck up. Reading the books is not a requirement to review these movies. They should be able to stand alone without the supplementary aid of the novels. Co-Host has a valuable (not to mention entertaining) perspective on these movies, unique among the Spill crew. In fact, I'd be pretty damn disappointed if he wasn't in the review.

    Just a small comment to Cassie, I'm not sure you can say Yates took out all the character development etc.  I think that would have been Steven Kloves' job as scriptwriter.  Not sure he was the right person for this franchise, Goldenberg did a great job with Order of the Phoenix - despite needing to take out huge chunks, he managed to make it flow well.

    Yates is a competent director - not my favourite of the bunch, but he's okay.

    @Sgt. Sharki you can. there are some pretty competitive government grants (in the US at least) that'll pay you a stipend to support you while you write for a year. Like I said, they're competitive though...so most people that apply don't get one. Less likely to make other people hate you than voluntarily going on welfare to give yourself free time, though.

    Lol, there have been a couple times when Ron has abandoned Harry when he has truly needed him, not really a reliable friend. He did it in Goblet of Fire and Deathly Hallows. Hermione is the friend that is always there for Harry. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Ron but he can be a D-Bag sometimes.

    True Ron is no Han Solo but he is there when harry needs him. That makes him the reliable friend. Truthfully he

    s like scooby and shaggy all rolled into on guy. I always seem to hear him saying,'' Zoinks!" in my head.

    JK Rowling's rags-to-riches story has been grossly exaggerated.

    Yes, she was a single mother. Yes, she was living on government assistants. But she chose to live on welfare in order to have time to write. She was never on the street or living out of a dumpster. I wish I could get money from the government to sit at home and write all day.

    Also, the books were unreadable after Goblet of Fire and the movies, while well made, have never really captured me. Still, I probably will go to see this one when it hits the local second run theater near me.

    @PaleBlueDot ditto, I have had too numerous a list of literature to read and have used the audio and movies to get into the Potter Universe.  Hadn't heard anything about the animated versions, can't wait to see some concept art or hear who the director will be.  One thing is I would like to see J.K. take this universe and do with it what Terry Pratchett did with Discworld: expand and build the mythos.

    WHOA! hey there! David Yates does not stay close to the books in the way that he should have if he wanted to make the movies good and understandable for everyone. Sorry, I hate to be one of "Those" fans, but in my personal opinion is that Yates cannot be called a strong director. The things he took from the book were merely small plot points and left all of the great character development that make the books enjoyable. I'm not saying that he should have been like Chris Columbus who followed the books so religiously that there was no room for creativity, but he could have take a few notes from Cuaron...At least in the sense of recognizing the points in the plot that are important to the readers for a reason (CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND CHARACTER RELATIONSHIPS) and then expanding creativity from there.

    And Co host, you do need to the read the books to understand the emotional connection people have to the characters because most of the directors screwed up as far as character development.

    if Co-Host cant understand the fanbase of Harry Potter through the movies he should check out the books, THAT is where the fanbase comes from because they are very well written and the plot goes a lot deeper than the movies have allowed, that being said as an adaption these films are great and i cannot wait until thursday night for it

    @John Henry Eden v2.0

    Agree completely. The new Star Wars MMO might breathe some life back into the franchise but I doubt it. That being said, I'm still going to ComicCon as Han Solo. If nothing else he was too cool to be ruined by the prequels. :)

    @D_Day

    Hey man, I love the original trilogy. I fucking adore everything in those movies, even those goddamn ewoks, and I'll defend them to the death. But they're decades old now. I don't think I'm shattering expectations here by saying that with George Lucas as he is now, Star Wars is for all intents and purposes deceased.

    And no, Lucas didn't "rape my childhood," but I still hate the prequels. They're terribly written, terribly directed, and terribly made all around, and I will never understand any value people perceive in them.

    Lastly, comparing Ron Weasley to Han Solo should be a fucking crime.

    I loved the books. I just wish they bring the whole Snape thing the ending it deserves. They can mess everything else up, just not THAT.

    This is easily the biggest franchise most people born in the 90s have been able to be a part of. I don't know if anything bigger will come along.

    So really, this is quite saddening that it has to end.

    Whether the "Harry Potter" film series is the modern-day "Star Wars" or not. You can't DENY the FACT that they both have some of the GREATEST THEME SONGS EVER COMPOSED (BOTH WRITTEN BY THE GREAT JOHN WILLIAMS!!!!)

    The audiobooks are my preferred  Potter crack. I feel POA is the best movie because it wasn't a slavish book adaptation and would love to see what  Cuaron would have done with the last two books.

    I didn't see the 7th film in theaters and don't feel any urgency around the 8th either.

    If anything, I'm more excited about possible future remakes. I'm sure experienced voice actors could bring the younger characters to life in even a 2d animated version. I'm also curious if we'd get overall better looking effects if there were no worries about the limitations and/or costs of CG.interspersed with live action.

    I'm also sure some people out there  must  feel they're genius enough to americanize or otherwise ethnocentrize the series from its British incarnation.
