I'm old enough to have seen the original when it came out, and I would agree that the new one is a better movie, but it's hard to make a fair comparison to an original that you saw as a kid when both you and the culture were less cynical. The emotional impact of something you see as a teenager is always going to trump improved special effects and a more sophisticated story.

I have seen this remake and the original and I have to agree they both had good points bu Colin Farrell was was definitely the more badass vamp. And who didn't enjoy David Tennant's performance.

If youre not already familiar with the original...dont watch it. New one is far better...ive thought it will be a good idea to see the original after ive came back from the 2011 version, and the original is shit so far, Im not even sure do i want to continue watching it.

This film is a Full Price! It managed to create a fun atmosphere without losing the tension in the scenes where Farrel is present.

a pretty terrific remake and one hell of a summer movie
gore, laughs, alot of action that I didnt expect, scary and a decent performance by Colin Farrell
I definitely spotted so many changes they made from the 1985 version
its not the exact same movie because its for this generation and Im pretty grateful that they didnt just make it for a quick cash-grab
they kept it in its quality and the entertainm...ent level too
Piranha 3D surprised me last summer and so did this vampire flick
this goes back to the classic vampire mythology without being very jarring and manipulative
for the anti-Twihards you can sit back and relax and rejoice :)
this summer looks like its wrapping up being more kick-ass thanks to this movie and the filmmakers give you a reason to go to the cinema

    my verdict: a 4 out of 5

This movie was so fun! Although the obvious 3D scenes were kind of annoying (I didn't see this in 3D).I saw the original earlier this year and it was just too 80s for me but I loved Chris Sarandon's Jerry. He was charming and suave while Colin's Jerry was a likable (and hot?) jerk. Good remake~

Having just watched the remake, and the original tonight...not sure how Cyrus can think the first 30/40 minutes are 'note for note'...they are very, very different in how Charlie learns about Jerry (through Ed, then the video, etc.), Ed's character is COMPLETELY different (semi normal, nerdish, clearly a good friend to Charlie in the remake), Charlie's personality and friends are different (in the remake he isn't as much of a nerd, seems more confident, clear headed), his girlfriend is much different, the mother is even played differently, the way Charlie reacts to learning about Jerry is totally different (in the original he is out telling everyone, bringing cops, where as in the remake he keeps it to himself, as anyone would), there are so many scenes that are different (nothing with Vincent coming to test Jerry..who can't even come in the house like he does in the original, there is no weird 'side' kick that Jerry has)...I felt there were many things different or missing from the remake (for the better) and I think Cyrus might need to go rewatch the original to see this.

Disagree with the crews opinion on Ed, such an annoying character in the first, so stupid, his voice, his relationship with Charlie was terrible. His transformation is awesome, but I didn't care for him, at least in the remake you understand who the character is, why he acts the way he does later on and how it effects Charlie.

I loved the hell out of this damn movie! Even though at first moved not entirely slow, but did a little slow then it jump started a fun ass movie from there!

I thought this was a lot of fun, and Imogen Poots is as hot as her name is unfortunate.

Pretty entertaining movie.  I'm glad I dragged my boyfriend out to see it even though we don't usually watch scary movies.  Good thing it was more action than horror, lol.  At our theater they did a double feature thing so we got to see the new movie and the old one for the price of 1 ticket.

    Great review, per usual!

    @Hector

Well actually Hector, the original Fright Night came out before Disturbia, so if anything, Fright Night is basically Hitchcock's "Rear Window" with a vampire twist and more action and gore.

My mom made me watch the original movie when it was on. She kept saying that the main character reminded her of me. I didn't see the reasoning in that.
