    They're not Swedes Leon, they're Norwegians : )

    Thought it was a fun movie, I did look at it about half way as more along the lines of a monster movie like the original black and white The Thing movie was. Was lots of fun, and the creature reminded me alot of Dead Space creatures and I thought that was cool too.  One thing I didn't get was, creatures weren't as elaborate as the original. When they all morphed, they morphed relatively into the same type of creature where as the original there were many different variations. (few spoilers) And I was hoping Lars had more parts being the survivor that continues onto the beginning of the next movie.  All in all, creatures were very creative, trailers unfortunately ruined some of the scares because I recognize the environments of where and when they transform, and you automatically knew the guy in the helicopter was going to transform from the trailers, so trailers kind of screwed that up. Im happy there wasn't any love interests, and Im happy they found some other way to test everyone rather than rehashing something used from the previous film.

    guys.... i thought this was ok, some inconsistencies to say the least. But the acting was good, dialogue was decent, and there were some generally creepy sequences.

    the 82' Thing is one of my all time favorties. There was a fantastic team (crew, actors, Carpenter) and every frame of the movie is impressive. Lots of TLC went into the film, as much went into the best of Carpenter's work. I think that's what was lacking in the prequel... a real vision. But for what it was, it wasn't bad.

    I just watched the 82 version again, this time with Kurt Russell & John Carpenter's commentary. Now if you want to have a good time, check that out. It was a riot, and full of great anecdotes and insights.

    I really enjoyed this movie. I give it a Full Price! I was completely sucked into it. I agree that there wasn't much character development, but I didn't want that. I wanted to see the Thing and that's what I got. I love the visuals. I know a lot of people were complaining that it wasn't top noch special effects, but I hey, not every movie can have Avatar quality effects. I loved them for what they were. Great review guys as usual!

    @PaleBlueDot okay it's not a direct remake lol but anyway you look at it, great film and it's prequel is pretty good and should be given a chance.

    @Russell '82 not a remake of '51

    also Carpenter's The Thing is much more of an adaptation of the George W.Campbell than The Thing From Another World. If you can find it, you should def. read it :)

    @Malik Thomas and Metal Virgin http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084787/trivia?tr=tr0775836 I believe it's a remake, like many others, even John Carpenter (I could be wrong) said it was a remake, but I can respect your views that it's not.

    Wasn't John Carpenter's The Thing sort of a prequel/remake to the 1951 film The Thing from Another World?

    Norwegians, Leon, not Swedes. You made the same mistake that Kurt Russell did in the original film! :)

    Just so we're all clear...The 1982 The Thing is based off of the same short story as The Thing From Another World...which is called 'Who Goes There?'. They put in a few references to the original film just as a tribute, but it's not supposed to be a remake of it.

    @Russel Thing 82 isn't really a remake.

    I saw this last night and i have to say it wasn't bad, it was pretty ok, i mean, the film reaches a point to where it could have gone the direction that  Carpenter's film did, but it decided to take a different direction which i'm actually glad.  the film makers decided, hey we cant recreated what John carpenter did because that would be making the exact same film so why not go in a different direction.  which if the did, everyone would be complaining they are copying john Carpenter's version.  Personnally, i'm glad they took it in a different direction.  it's a little creepy with the alien absorbing people, the partical effects are awesome but the cgi monster at the end was bad, actually the practal and cgi combined effects weren't bad either.

     the middle is alot like Carpenter's version where they are trying to figure out who human and who's the alien, but the midpoint of the film to the end is more like a monster chasing everyone around, and its does tie up with the original, and to everyone who complains about not caring about the characters, well there were too many norweigns that you really couldn't focus on anyone, besides, films like these, your not suppose too, its about showing a monster killing as may people as possible, yeah u may care about the hero, but everyone else is expendable.

    i would give it a high matinee,

    I actually liked this movie alot, the original remake is going fucking nowhere, so why keep complaining and comparing these two films? The same thing happened to John Carpenter's The Thing that is happening to this prequel. Critics and fans kept comparing it to the film that came before it which is why Carpenter's remake failed, critically and financially, even though it was a bad ass movie and is up there as one of the greatest sci-fi films of all times. Keep an open mind and learn not to walk in with a chip on your fucking shoulders. Most remakes are soulless but look at the remakes that care about the original source material and want to re-invigorate it (Dawn of the Dead,Fright Night), versus the ones who want to replicate or paint over it. I rank this up with the 21st century remakes of Dawn of the Dead, Fright Night, and I Spit On Your Grave. Great fun, check your whiny bullshit at the door when you go to see it or stay at home and watch the original.

    @Luke Hero

    Why would you want to know what The Thing is and why it came to Earth. It would be a terrible idea, its just a parasite that's trying to survive. That's all we really need to know.

  • October 15, 2011 at 8:08 AM, DAn said ...

    Yah, this film was bordering on Ok. Soulless, lifeless, lacks a pulse. It's definitely an assimilation so there's only one thing to do: TORCH IT.

    The Thing by Carpenter is one of my favourite movies, its a classic on so many levels, I was also nervous on this remake too. Worried about this one

    Ya know, I thought this movie was ok, but I find myself defending it vehimently elsewhere mostly because of this bullshit fanboy critique that "it's not as good as the Carpenter version, therefore it's an abortion." I LOATHE that kind of shit.
