Okay bro, I wouldn't say I was "obsessed' (I certainly didn't force you to watch it!) but the original movie was a fun dance movie that was one of the better dancing films of its time (kind of similar to what "Saturday Night Fever" was for the '70s teenagers). And it did have a good mix of a soundtrack, from Kenny Loggins to Sammy Hagar. As for the new movie, no interest in seeing it whatsoever, there was no need to re-make the original. Would rather preserve memories of performances by Kevin Bacon, John Lithgow and Dianne Wiest that rocked.

    wow
    it actually wasnt terrible
the trailer had me very worried that they were gonna just make another cash n' grab
but they got the tone of the 1984 version right
certain scenes and lines were changed a bit
... some classic songs were kept in here while they added some new ones
I didnt mind the new cast members playing the roles; Dennis Quaid though was really miscast as the preacher, its tough to fill Lithgow's shoes
the new leads are unknowns but their acting still holds up to carry the film
Bacon and Singer I still prefer however
this remake got my foot tapping
its still awesome to go to the movies and have fun with rockin music and to learn the value of dancing

Disappointed with how little respect the original Footloose is given here; for what it was, it's about as good as it gets. Also, I've seen the original and during the trailer - the film's best foot forward - they were matching the same shots, same lines, and even cast actors that look like actors from the original. Based on that alone this remake - with nothing new to say - is the definitive Some Ole Bullshit.

Gender has nothing to do with it, the original footloose is a classic. I'm glad this remake isn't the total cash-in garbage I was assuming it would be, but anyone would definitely be better off renting the original instead.

From watching the first 10 seconds of the trailer

Obviously, it wasn't drunken driving that killed those kids but just dancing ;)

That lead actor may be okay, but this movie certainly won't help him. I have yet to see a single ad (poster, commercial, banner ad, etc.) for this movie. It feels like another studio dump.

Sounds like they should have had Roger from American Dad come in and school them all with his Kevin Bacon impersonation.

    @Samantha Hill:

Agreed. Footloose is SO BLATANTLY 80's that it was idiotic to even think about bringing it into 2011. I guess it was just their excuse to advertise more crappy pop songs that no one will give a shit about in two years time.

And hell, if you ARE dumb enough to remake a movie like Footloose, the least you could do is get some decent and fun actors. But of course, they choose the cheap no-name bland-as-hell pretty young white people (with like, two token black people to play the sidekicks) and make the experience even more dull and pointless.

I hope this movie gets terrible word of mouth and bombs accordingly. I'm not even the biggest fan of the original, but even I can understand why everyone rightly thinks remaking this was a lame idea.

Remakes shouldn't be made unless they have something new to say and or contribute. This is one such uncessary remake. The premise is especially ridiculous in 2011; thanks to the internet, this town would be made a mockery by the rest of the world and repeal as soon as the bad PR stung them.

Yeah that DEFINITELY makes sense why Zac Effron was wanted for this role, and even though he would have been typecasted, I could atleast see it helping. Then again I never cared to even watch the original (besides skipping though channels and watching a few minutes because the other channel had commercials on)...The story of this seems dumb and unrealistic, the dancing doesn't really look entertaining, the vibe of it does look extremely safe for a rebellious character, so really the only thing that looks ok about this is the director since I do look forward to his work after Hustle & Flow...it just happens to be a remake of a movie I never cared about in the 1st place. The acting does look alright but with a story like that, I'll probably have no interest in any of the characters and will ask myself why the hell i'm watching it to begin with.

Even though I'll probably never see this, I can see Rental/High Rental being fair because it really doesnt seem like fans or anyone are even that interested in this at all. So at home would probably be more forgiving lol.
