I liked this movie very much.  The bits with the two budding romances within the station felt like they should have been trimmed until I heard Scorcese say the movie was about making connections and in that context, those scenes worked.  In the end -- and not to give away the ending -- I loved how one person's quest enabled those connections.  I'm seeing this again with two friends who haven't seen the movie (and who wouldn't have based on the trailer).  Again, great review.  And believe it or not, I still can't get co-host's "fuck Walter" out of my head since seeing The Muppets tonight.

It's so rare that I agree fully with the crew, great job on the review! The only issue that wasn't brought up was how disconcerting it is that supposedly French characters in an American film have British accents.

id certainly go see this movie if there was aleast ONE screening at my theatre (seriously, they have every other 3D movie out, but not this one?) which makes me beg the question: how well will this do at the box office? i know with passion projects like this that money is kind of an afterthought, but something like Ed Wood could afford to bomb because it was on a small budget anyways, wheras this is a $170 million blockbuster.

I loved this movie. Some stuff in the first twenty minutes felt like obvious and bland pandering for the kids (ie the slapstick& the dogs stuff), but it's so ends up being so beautiful by the ending.

This looks great, but why did they use that song on the trailer.  Talk about pre-mature dating.

    wow

    really engaging

    a huge surprise from Scorsese

he did state he wanted to make a film for his kids and he suceeded; he managed to make a movie that appeals to both children and adults holding a complex storyline, great child actors, beautiful cinematography, and wonderful acting

Chloe Moretz can still act and I applaud her so much

it sucks Jude Law only enters for 5 min in flashbacks

I did dig Sascha Baron Cohen as the Inspector, looked goofy and was fun

I really thought this movie was going in one path but then it turned around and became very engrossing

it made me feel very nostalgic about the good ol' fashioned era of cinema and kept me smiling

Scorsese really gets the imaginative side of things nailed down while reminding the audience why things start out in our minds and eventually make their way to the public eye

some people may be bored to death, me I wasnt

I saw this in a double feature with The Muppets, and I have to say-this was so much better. I enjoyed The Muppets, but I love the crap out of this movie. This is not a kid's film. This is a movie for the people who love art. And I love art, and the art of film, and this is the second best film of the year for me, behind Midnight in Paris. Please go see this movie. Stop trowing cash at The Muppets and go see Hugo, and get your friends to go see Hugo. Message to America ended.

The movie industry needs 3D films like this one, that go beyond just gimmicky and shows that the technology can be used to tell good stories with some deeper meaning not just action. No matter what the 3D movement needs this. I got to check this shit out.

Great review guys, completely understand where Co-Host is coming from because there are some friends of mine I would really warn against seeing this film.

Really want to see this film but I can't seem to find a day of release for Australia. Hopefully it comes out soon.

Do not take Cohost to any slow moving films, for some reason he just does not like them.

I really don't think the side characters were a problem in the slightest. I don't feel like the first half was slow or a chore at all, and it had me wrapped in the film the entire time......  I really don't see how any of it was slow, or how it was boring, because it was in total service to the entire feel and the entire intent of the movie itself.  So, I gotta disagree strongly with some of the points in this review.  Besides, I saw it with an audience that was about 40% kids, and they were loving it...  So, yeah...  It's a high full price for me.

    Cool review guys.

I decided I will see Hugo by myself this week since Jean Marco does not want to see it. Plus if I go by myself the prices will be cheaper.
