I agree with them for the most part. I was disappointed in this movie. If anyone is interested in my review of the movie, you can check out my blog, also feel free to leave a comment.  http://moviereviewer96.wordpress.com/

i really liked the first movie but it had some pretty big holes here and there, like who the hell was this magic red headed midget who created all of this stuff to make the bad guy seemingly magical if it was supposed to be Moriarty helping along they did not do a great job of establishing that at all.

i loved this movie alot the scene in the woods was spectacular and the climax was brilliant. people seem to be overly agitated at the lack of detective work by holmes but really it is just about 10 minutes of amalgamated side puzzle solving which can be over done as well that was different from the first, the girls role was completely unnecessary, and they substituted more slapstick in place of the more dramatic elements.

still i loved this film to death for how they pulled it together and performances. high matinee/low full price

I admittedly enjoyed it when I finally got around to see it, I'd have to agree with Cyrus, liked it for different reasons than the first. I have to see it a second time to be absolutely sure what I think of it. First hour was meh, but the second hour was really good, showed the true conflict between Moriarty and Holmes. I felt it did have a good villain, it showed Holmes being truly tested and physically/mentally beat down by this game he was playing. As of right now, high matinee/low full price. As good as the first, i dont know yet.

I enjoy a good mystery story, and I saw Guy Ritchie's 2009 Sherlock Holmes as an entertaining and interesting take on the detective.

The start of this film was certainly entertaining. It brought back what was great about the first film. Yet during the second half I felt like I had gone into a hangover, as the characters went through one action sequence after another action sequence

This really wasn't a detective movie.Too much of Holmes solving mysteries off-screen and then suddenly telling the audience - just like the last movie. It's entirely impossible for the audience to follow. We never feel like Holmes is ever in danger because he's a goddamn psychic. He's an expert in everything, he has no weakness at all. The women in the movie are wasted so horribly. In was a fun jumble to watch. But it was a mess.

A lurking spill member here. As much as I respect your guys' opinions, this is a rare instance where I don't agree with the review. Maybe it's because I went in expecting nothing from the movie and was shocked at by how much I liked it. I've read the books and I know this movie isn't faithful to it much, but I like to think of Guy Ritchie's version to be the.. more action-packed version. And that isn't bad. The slow motion was too much for me in the scene where they're running in the woods, and Sherlock's 'psychic' ability to read his opponent's next moves was exaggerated, but overall I enjoyed the movie's humor and action. The ending was great as well and I can honestly say I'm glad I paid to see this.

I'll stay tuned for your next reviews anyways and hope you keep up the good work, guys. I'll also that people seem to have overreacted to this review..

I saw this movie at my theater on $6 Sundays. I say matinee, because of too much slow motion effects. If you have your own movie theater system it worth the wait for a rental.

I don't get this review at all. This movie was great, I didn't feel bored, or confused or cheated by the plot at all, and the action was well done. this review makes no sense at all.

I have to disagree with this review, I thoroughly enjoyed this film.  I thought the whole game with Moriarty and Holmes was well done, and the explosions were far better thought out than in the last one.  There could have been a little more classical detective moments, but that doesn't seem like the direction that Ritchie wants to take this series.  Fun movie, worth seeing.  Low full price in my opinion.  I am wondering if much of the Spill crew just got their hopes to high up and came in with expectations.  It would explain some of the criticisms, and is understandable.  This does seem like the type of movie that critics will have vastly different opinions.  I personally disagree with much of this review, but there will be plenty of people on this site who will have the same problems as the Spill guys.

Idk I don't completely agree with this review.  I usually take your guys' side when it comes to movie reviews but i loved this movie.  Granted co-host had a point with the non-villainy villain but I thought for the most part this was a great movie.  I gave it an enthusiastic full price, I thought that although the first movie was better this was a close second.

Tripping on how folks get so worked up over the Crew's reviews to the point where they say they'll leave the site and/or not listen to them anymore.  Fa' real?  Is it that serious?  Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the crew's reviews also but it's just for entertainment purposes.  I'm still going to see what I want to see and reserve the right to disagree with them.  But to be so "offended" with a review that goes against my opinion that I leave the site?  C'mon.  Oh, and for the record, Game of Shadows?  Loved it.  No problem following the plot and no problem with any aspect of the film.  I do find it funny how they, as a reviewing group, let one film have egregious story flaws/loopholes/lags and penalize another for it.  Case in point:  they said this one lagged and had a confusing plot but Inception wasn't?  Right.

Just back from it. I enjoyed it I'd call it a ripping yarn..... oh and though I disagree with some of your opinions... I'll keep reading your posts and listening to your podcasts because I like you guys.

The chick is in the film because the producers and such have a case of the Not-Gays.  They have to stress to the audience that Holmes is not gay by sticking a little estrogene into the movie.  It's the same reason they kept saddling Bruce Wayne with pointless girlfriends in the 90's Batman movies.

Ultimately, you're watching the film for the male characters, you're watching for the relationship between Sherlock and Watson, you're watching for the battle between Sherlock and Moriarty, female characters in this franchise are only vehicles for the plot, in which case the project of this film was fulfilled and done successfully. For people complaining about the plot, it is a Sherlock Holmes film, the plot is supposed to complicated, if not a bit far-fetched and entirely nuanced, peopled by interesting but not entirely fleshed out side characters. Despite its steam-punk slant, this version seems to hold more to the spirit of the stories and the characters--so this movie was entirely a full price for me, with all of the humor, action and eccentricities the last movie had and promised me in this one.

The movie did suffer from the fact that it is a Guy Ritchie film...having its moments of complete stasis and then non-stop action, but ultimately the writing and the performances were all there, and they used every detail they introduced. I'm looking forward to going back a second and third time!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt this way...when the credits rolled, I sat there thinking..."ok, there were some funny moments, but...WTF happened?"

it kept going from funny and sort of clever...to bogged down scenes without much going on.

I loved the first one...and I didn't hate this, but its honestly shit compared to the original. Not saying this is awful, plenty of cool looking scenes and humor...but overall it really felt like an excuse to profit off it's popularity of the 1st movie and thats all.

Sucks that the trailer for The Dark Knight Rises RIGHT before it started gained my interest more than the movie ever did. Sucks cause I like ALL the acotrs, including Noomi Rapace. and I gotta say Moriarty wasn't that interesting at all. The actor was good, but he just want portrayed the way I hoped for. I'd have to give it a High Rental...high as in get really high for it and you wont care about the disconnected plot.

wow it's one of those times that i disagree completely with spill.com. that being said, i had tons of fun with this review and thought all of them gave valid points. although i think rachel mcadams and naomi rappace could have had stronger and more effective roles in this movie, and that the sherlock vs moriarty could've been more fleshed out, this was still a kickass movie to me and i had tons of fun. full fucking price for this one. i was so sure leon would like it though. great review guys!

You know what, I'm going to start by saying I come to this site to listen to the Spill crew provide their thoughts on current films. I respect that it is your opinion so I cannot say that you guys are wrong for not liking or liking any particular film. I find it funny how some people get mad at you guys for expressing your opinions because it is yours and this is your website and you are free to do so. (They are free to express their opinions as well but to say that another opinioin is wrong is just...kind of stupid. This is not directed at anyone but I've just gotten tired of people doing that.)

That being said I have to say I loved the hell out of this film. I agree with you when you said that you didn't understand what was going on in some parts. I was like "Um why would that happen if...nevermind just enjoy the movie". LOL! But I did get a lot of laughs out of this film and I really did enjoy the action scenes, I am a sucker for good slow motion when it's done right and I felt it was done rather well in this film. I have to agree that Noomi Rapace, her character shouldn't have been in this film, what was her purpose? Anway and I have to agree, I would have loved to have seen more of Moriarty. The last few minutes or so with Holmes and Moriarty were just completely awesome. I was like "HELLS YEAH!!" LOL! Overall I left feeling like my money was well spent so I will give this a very High FULL PRICE! I did enjoy this and I am sad that you guys didn't get the movie you wanted to see.

And yes, Downey Jr. did look like the Joker in that one scene. That's all I could think about.

FULL PRICE!!! I thought it was actually alot better than the first one.

Listening to this and thinking back on the film itself my issue is that Holmes and Moriarty don't enjoy many scenes together or even Moriarty himself doesn't appear as much as he possibly should given his status as master villain. The story itself is so much bigger in scale that it doesn't really come together until the end which is fine except that the journey to get there seems rather aimless but the film is saved however by its lead actors. I thought this was immensely entertaining, funny yes and some decent set pieces. Though they don't spend as much time together as I was hoping, Jared Harris is the Moriarty I was hoping to see whilst Robert Downey Jr is brilliant as Holmes. For me this is a Full Price for entertainment value alone.
