A few years ago it was decided by the government to spend £2-3 million for her funeral which is standard for any british pm and i will always remember the words of Frankie Boyle every time i hear the name Margaret Thatcher -

"For £2 million you can give every Scotsman a shovel to dig her a personal tunnel to hell!"

OK there are some people talking about us British and Margaret Thatcher when they really don't know anything about it, I would never presume to judge an American president on domestic politics nor would I know how to judge him. For the record, the Falkland Islands (whose inhabitants consider themselves British) were invaded by Argentina in 1982 and she sent a task force to help liberate them (with American support), the war was certainly not started by Mrs. Thatcher. Thatcher herself is a very unpopular figure here in Britain, her unyielding economic policies (much like it is today) brought unemployment here to 3 million plus she over saw the terminal decline in our coal mining industry. She's particularly hated for the brutality in which she enacted her policies and most resistance was just crushed. Her influence is still felt today and the Conservative for example has no presence in Scotland as a result of her tenure as Prime Minister. However some today still celebrate her strong leaderhsip during the Falklands and indeed her restrictions on the unions which had been holding Britain to ransom in the previous decade.

Back to the film however, the Spill crew are absolutely right on every point. A fantastic performance by Meryl Streep doesnt save this pointless film that really doesn't have anything insightful or interesting to say on the Thatcher era. I also think that scenes of her with her dead husband are rather insensitive considering that the lady herself is still alive to this day. Not a good film really.

(sorry about repost from other page but not sure if other page comment would be read because it is old)

-2 constructive suggestion about audio reviews-

(i love your site and reviews and podcasts and  and community and i just want to share 2 ideas that i think would be really cool)

    -----------------------

idea 1, please compare the movie you are reviewing to many other movies

please in the review share at least 3 movies in the last 10 years that are similar

please in the review share 3 movies that you feel are similar but do a better job

please in the review share 3 movies that you feel are similar but do a worse job

please share 3 movies that are more that 10 years old that are better than the subject film

"if you like this part of the movie check out these other 3 movies" for the major themes in the movie

    ---------------------

idea 2, please add many user polls to each movie review

i think there is a way to have each person who comments or has a user account vote on polls like how we rate the movie (like meta critic has the critic rating and the user community rating)

i think you should have more user polls enable to let us in the community help give feed back in a way where everybody knows there vote will be counted at the end

thank you for awesome site, i bring your site content with me on long work trips and it helps me stay normal

    @Mirage

you know what I was actually interested in this story, because I was really young when Margaret Thatcher was in power, and I don't know much about her, and what I do know about her did sound like it would make a good movie.

It's cute to see that english can sell to the american all their uniterresting stories ! And that they are so interrested by anything they did .

After the story about their useless king (kings are always useless) who can't put a word after an other , Shakespear the guy who was such a rogue and not realy shakespear , now the "iron ladie" that started a stupid war and allow a ship to carry nukes on a warzone with no justification .

I can wait to see  a movie about the wedding of prince what-ever-the-fuck-his-name-is and Kate Middlepageofplayboy

I do think it's great how critics have bonded together and have universally said about this movie, "You had a great premise and actress here, why fill it with so much pointless, director-demanded artistry?"
