I have such a pet peeve for Black people who think they can pretend that this is a good movie just because of the story that it tells. I'm with Cyrus--I'm Black and I thought this movie was really bad. I mean, if it weren't for David Oyelowo, this movie would be complete trash. It has bad acting, a bad script, bad editing, even the action felt very amateurish and TV-movie and hokey. As Co-Host said, there are many good moments in the movie, but for every good moment, you have to sit through about seven or eight bad ones. I was literally cringing in my seat for the majority of the movie...

Pops wanted to go see this for his birthday, he loves everything war and loves the story of the Tuskegee Airmen. When I woke up to find the audio review negative I worried. Goddamnit, George Lucas! My dad loves Star Wars too! Why you always picking on us?!

I purposely waited to listen to the review until I watched the movie just to have a un-biased opinion  Me and my friend listened to to it afterwards, and Ii bet him $5 that one of the crew would make a Darth Vader  comment about the Nazi ace. Thank you for helping me win that bet! :) . It's an all right movie ; Tuskegee Airmen portrayed them a lot better.  I suggest a matinee as well. Kinda disappointed in John Ridley though. I'm a big fan of his stuff, and thought he could've done better.

Turns out Aaron McGruder was hired for punch-up, George wanted him and personally reached out. Seems like he knew that might get more people into the cinema to see this. I wonder when the action figures will come out.

This seems like one of these movies that's gonna split people. You either recognize the flaws and take them for what they are, like Leon did. Or you just have so much trouble getting past the flaws that you can't enjoy the movie, like Cyrus.

I think for most people, me included, who grew up listening to stories of the Tuskegee Airman and always admired them for their heroism, are so disappointed because of the wasted potential

I can understand that people are excited to see black men as heroes on the silver screen. We don't see enough of that. But with the advances made in film and the money behind this - not to mention the 20 year production span - there's no excuse for the technical flaws in this film. The Airmen deserve better, and those young actors deserve better, as well.

So I went to see it in a sparse theater ,which surprisingly had mostly older white couples with young black audience members, in the end everyone enjoyed the movie including myself.  Gripe-wise the bomber pilots sounded hokey and some of the black pilots sounded country for no reason. That said it did the great job on getting you hooked on the subject matter and the characters, so much so that when one died there wasn't a dry eye in the house.  While Gooding & Howard were serviceable, their roles were one note as were the recognizable faces earlier in the film.  The film in essence showcased a lot of up and coming black actors, some recognizable others not so much but they all gave great performances, given the material.  I have to say, from a writing standpoint I'm disappointed given the pedigree this has with the story by John Ridley and a screenplay by Ridley and Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder.  All and all it was a decent film and I hope the story of the 332nd Fighter Group gets told again with the same acting caliber as the tv film and spirit of this.  Highly recommended MATINEE

Recently saw this film and I got to disagree with the spillios and the spill crew. I enjoy the film. I didn't have any exceedingly high expectations and I was pleased. This was a fun flick and sure it had hokey dialogue and a few bad actors but the good outweighs the bad. I loved it the two young leads were great in their roles and Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr was decent in their roles. I loved all the sky battles. I am just glad blacks were not treated as baffoonish coons and they were not victims waiting for the white mans help. They were heroes who loved their racist ass country. I really dug it and I am honored that the Tuskegee airmen risked their lives so dumbass like us can bitch on the Internet and the other luxuries we still have. 3/5 stars.

The movie isn't perfect by all means but it still a movie that shows black men in a positive light something that we don't see in film...we're not being slaves nor are we playing drug dealers or pimps there are good black actors in this movie that prob won't get leading roles, I understand how you feel about this movie but as a black man I'm shocked at you guys its like the spill crew went from dudes who love movies to movie critics...SMH!!

Just came back from seeing it...i know the movie isn't perfect but i think the movie was very entertaining..i see alot of movies all the time like we all do on spill but i think the movie is great for young black kids to see and i think the creators weren't trying to make a film for Oscars but at least to pay respect the black fighter pilots of WWII and I feel like i got my money worth tonight and how often do you see a black cast or film not involving the hood, gangsters or even Tyler Perry.. I think the movie is a matinee

I here people complaing about the technical stuff. But who gives a damn. The over all story was good. The acting could have been better, but the story was good. Yes the opening credit font, look like some powerpoint font. But who cares. For the avg. movie goer , they prob thought it was ok or a good movie. As i watched the movie , i wasen't even paying attention to any technical stuff. I have seen alot of movies where the cg was so obvious ( all of the final destination moves) that i just had to laugh. I thought it was a good movie and hollywood only wants to see black comedy movies. So i enjoyed it.   Com' on son.

I just came back from watching this. I wish i had listened to this beforehand.
I have never been so pissed off at a movie, in my entire life, Everything you guys said was exactly how I felt throughout the entire film. From the shitty credits, to the horrible ending of the airmen getting their medals at a obviously computer generated airfield. I don't know what the hell happened, but I have a theory that George Lucas got greedy and just took over the whole production. Fuck This Movie. Just Fuck This Movie. This is not the movie that truly recognizes the greatness and bravery that the Tuskegee Airmen demonstrated during WWII.

Here is how I see it. Hollywood is not going to give real Hollywood treatment to a movie pushing minorities until it can show it will bring in big bucks. We put the weight on the shoulders of the director but its on the writers as well. Just lazy all around. Get a director that is doing his first time into movies this is what you get. I am very disappointing.

So much wasted potential here. If anything, the story behind making Red Tails is one worth telling someday. I’ll put my review like this, if you’re looking to see a movie about a formerly enslaved, disenfranchised race of people banning together with those different from them to fight a common evil…you’re better off seeing Underworld: Awakening

@Luke Hero. I encourage you to still go see it. The corny lines and critically claimed terrible cinema features doed not outweigh the fact that we (black men) get a chance to see American Heroes that look like us on the big screen with major money behind it. We all knew it was going to be corny and overly inspirational but, it feels so good to adore these men (no homo) like the gods the movie tries to establish these characters. I too have a strong connection to the T. Airmen. The movie was ok at best but you feel like a white kid who saw John Wayne for the first time and really be able to connect.

This audio review confirmed everything I thought about this movie...No way will I waste a cent of it....As a black man who lives in AL and has a connection with Tuskegee...At first I was really hyped...but after I saw the corny ass trailer and now hearing about it...No way will I see it until it comes out on Redbox.
