    Slow but not boring, the best kind of anime!

    I'm glad you guys like this, so many independent and mainstream reviewers dismiss or ignore anime.

    Would of missed this filmed completely. Thanks for bringing this film to my attention. I saw it tonight with a buddy of mine and we both loved it. If you are saying Miyzaki's other films are better than this then I need to check them out because this filmed amazed me. I'm also glad that I listen to the review before hand because while watching the movie I did what Cyrus did and looked to see how the borrowers were using the stuff they borrowed. My favorite was that they used stamps as portraits.

    @Cat

    It's a dub. The rest of the film was made in Japan.

    Nothing about this film is American.

    Soooo, the Borrowers have gone American? Same characters, same story, just cartoon and American..

    This movie is beautifully animated and very pleasant to watch.  Since then I watched Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and Castle in the Sky from Studio Ghibli and The Secret World of Arrietty is my favorite so far.

    The only line that I missed from the Japanese version (English subtitles) was at the end when Arrietty tells Shawn, "I hope you have the best life ever."  It's more potent than "I hope you have a good life," in the English version.

    I was also dazed by the soundtrack. It was beautifully melodic, and pieced together with the imagery.

    If you took the time to actually read any of the comments, you'd know that nobody got "so fucking sensitive about it." One or two people cracked a joke about the subject, that's it. Nobody "sniped" at Cyrus, and in fact every comment I've read is entirely civil. You're the first one to get so worked up about it.

    This happens every goddamn time anime is even mentioned on a spill podcast. Every goddamn time someone just has to snipe at Cyrus. At this point I think I need two hands and a foot to count how many times I've heard or read Cyrus explain his position on anime. This song and dance is fucking beyond old people.

    Anime is supposed to be fun but when it's discussed on Spill everyone gets so fucking sensitive about it. Way to bleed out the fun and leave nothing but an empty sour husk, people. I once said if the LEOG never talked about anime again it would be too soon but maybe it's at the point that anime just doesn't have a place anywhere on Spill.

    Pronouncing Ghibli.

    To the best of my knowledge (not knowing Japanese... but watching a lot of freaking movies) the letter i in Japanese is always pronounced "EEE."

    EEEcheeeban. (Instead of itchybahn), etc.

    I once made a sarcastic pass about Cyrus and anime and got a terse answer. I was a little surprised by it but made no further comment. However the longer I've been on this site the more I've seen why he's had to become like that. Seriously leave the guy alone already, I can't recall him ever changing his stance on anime. It's not like he sat here on this review and pissed all over anime.

    @Cyrus and Alex

    I think we're all saying pretty much the same thing now. In fact I mentioned earlier the distinction between Miyazaki and the relatively standard (i.e. television) anime line-up. I don't think it's even possible to not be intimidated (or at least turned off) by the sheer volume of material anime has to offer - I know I was when I started getting interested in it. Not to mention that it's probably accentuated by the fact that Western audiences have little to no cultural context, where it's relevant. But hey, whatever floats your animation boat. Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli are great, so I'm definitely planning on seeing this, even if it happens to be a tad slow.

    @john look  its called sarcasm. ive never heard cyrus say anything offensive about anime. i gave an exaggeration to show that any statements that he hates are ridiculous. as ridiculous as my exaggeration. idk if you didnt understand but i hope this clarifies.

    also cyrus i meant nothing offensive i was being foolish, great review and i did know where you were coming from. keep up the great work man!

    Considering that I own and have repeatedly watched quite a few titles, and have repeatedly professed on the site a near obsession with Miyazaki, I must once again challenge you to find such a statement from me other than in an apocryphal basis. I have repeated said, that anime tv shows have fallen outside my interest largely because, and quite simply, there's not even close to enough time to see all the stuff I already KNOW I want to see without adding several decades worth of animation tv seasons on top of it. Does that mean that the TV shows (notice the distinction) don't hold as much interest for me as the rest of the giant stack of stuff on my never ending must watch, read, play, listen to list? Sure, but that's not even close to saying blanket statements of hatred against an entire art form, or even of critical dismissal.

    @Alex

    I vividly remember Cyrus joking about how he "hates" anime on one episode of LEOG or another, later clarifying that he simply has no interest in it. But no, he's never genuinely expressed any sort of resentment towards the genre in the way you describe, as far as I know. I'm not going to go through the LEOG archives searching for timestamps, regardless.

    @cyrus I would love for someone to show me just once on the entire history of the site where I have stated, in a meant to be taken serious way, that I hate anime. Go ahead. Show me.

    there it is cyrus, your words... im kidding

    we know you don't hate anime you just think anime is an embarrassment for nerd culture, like a red headed step son.

    King Ghidorah is a shitty commentor. He never. I reiterate NEVER says anything inteligible.

    Noah Antwiler on the other hand always makes a well reasoned comment
