I saw a special viewing with Aaron Ralston putting a disclaimer about when he cuts off his arm and held his stump up and said "SPOILER ALERT!"

In regards to Danny Boyle and amputations, let's not forget this lovely scene from his first movie! Yeah, he's an old hand at this. Bad pun, I know....BOOOOOO!!!

Touching the void was excellent. but he just broke his leg, he didnt cut it off. but yeah, he "just" broke his leg while at the summit of a 22,000 ft mountain, and then his rope had to be cut so that his climbing partner could escape a blizard. he fell right into a pit in the mountain and struggled for a few days to climb out and back down. for some reason his fellow climbers were still at base camp, so he lived.

Oh come on Travis. You knew the guy cut off his arm. Its like saying "the boat sank" was a spoiler when talking about Titanic.

There was this news story a few years ago about this guy who climbed Mt Everest. When he reached the top, somehow his arm got stuck and this blizzard was about to come in and he sawed his arm off.

I think the movie you're thinking of is Vertical Limit, from 2000. There's definitely a scene in which two climbers are hanging over a crevasse and the lower climber cuts himself loose to save the other one. That movie kind of sucks though.

This movie is going to be to James Franco what Monster was to Charlize Theron. It is a one-man-show, and that's what makes it a one-Oscar-movie.
