Just Some Ole Bullshit really. Special effects do not make a movie great. I don't see why James Cameron can make any movie whatsoever and suddenly turn it into solid gold.

I agree a lot with the Spill crew. This movie was very close to a Better Than Sex. The Special Effects were Phenominal. The Visuals when it comes to the different creatures and enviroment of Pandora was the best of the time. But yes as the Crew said it is unorigional in plot and some of the dialogue is bad in only a few scenes. But the actors are all really good and they tried their best to make a good movie out of a unorigional story and they did great. I give this a very very very High Full Price.

Fire working perfectly normally despite the supposed lack of oxygen.
The Navi emphasizing the lifelong bond between those dragon creatures, yet Jake Sully can ever-so-conveniently ditch his for a cooler one.
The Navi spirit marking Jake Sully as a "chosen one" to ever-so-conveniently save him from being killed when the writer has no ideas, which is of course never explained.
When destroying Hometree, Trudy just backs out and flies away. She is never punished for this, even after Quaritch does his whole bit about how important loyalty is to him, and this is never mentioned again. This makes her appearance to break out Sully implausible.
Quaritch in a mech-suit fighting Jake's avatar instead of the actual building that Jake's body is in. Seriously? Like an avatar would be able to stop a giant mech-suit charging toward a building? Speaking of which, how can his suit just magically crush trees into sawdust with its blows while Sully's avatar can miraculously just hold off one of its blows?
Neytiri magically knowing that Jake was in that building and being able to save him just in time at the end.

Overall, nice tech demo, RENTAL 4/10

A generic, cliche, predictable, ripped-off story (Common knowledge)
Bad acting (If you have eyes, ears, and critical senses, this isn't really up for debate)
Bad dialogue (ex. The whole "unobtanium, this is why we're here" rant. The most lazy and horrible attempt at exposition possible. Really? Like Sigourney Weaver's character wouldn't know all that? and it is WAY too specific and is WAY too awkward and clunky if meant to be pure sarcasm. ex. "I see you" Cheesy as hell and horrible delivery. ex. All the modern-day War on terror phrases that Quaritch says, etc, etc...)
Characters like Quaritch that are walking cliches.
Jake is working for the mercenaries but the second he is put into the Navi culture he accepts it immediately.
The humans don't have one good quality and are made out to be nothing but bad. One-dimensional.
Navi don't exhibit one bad quality and are made out to be perfect and decent people (their god is even real while the humans' god apparently isn't). Again, completely one-dimensional.
The humans are perfectly willing to kill the peaceful Navi to get what they want.
Jake Sully being pressured to be the one to convince the Navi to move as an Avatar when it doesn't even matter because the Navi KNOW he's a human and ANY human could've told them to move and gotten the same response. And in fact, that's an even DUMBER way of trying to get the Navi to move then just getting the human to just straight up ask them to move. But you're feeble fanboy mind is probably thinking "NO, they needed to use Jake Sully's avatar to gain the trust of the Navi in order to get them to move!" but WHERE IS THE LOGIC IN THAT? Would you be more pissed if a random stranger on the street told you to leave your house by saturday or he and his buddies would ransack your house and kill you if you're there or if one of your best friends told you the same thing? Obviously the latter. There you go, that renders half the movie pointless.

I rented this movie again and I have to say my opinion of it has dropped quite a bit. I would've given it a full-price when it first came out but now I have to drop it to a matinee. I'm truly sick of the Pocahontas/Last Samurai/outsider-native storyline. I'm physically sick of it, and it genuinely makes me angry to see it again. But really, that's my personal preference. My professional opinion is that a cover doesn't make a book, graphics don't make a video game, and special effects don't make a movie. Special effects are a tool, and this whole movie feels like it was built upon that tool. That feeling is accentuated for me because of my personal preferences regarding the story. So I guess it would be awesome for somebody that likes staring at pretty moving images for a hundred and sixty minutes.

FULL PRICE!!?? Hell no thats way off. BETTER THAN SEX!! All the way throughout the whole movie.

BETTER THAN SEX, easily. I'm not trippin' over the story or anything b/c it's nothing you haven't seen before: outsider comes in, falls in love with native, native shows outsider the beauty of nature, outsider has to pick a side to fight for, chooses natives. It follows that format so there was nothing that exceptional about the story. However, telling the story in that setting brings this movie to an entirely different level. In terms of originality when it comes to the Na'vi and the creatures, the plants, and everything about Pandora...never seen anything like it on film. The scenery was breathtaking, the visual effects and 3-D were mind blowing, the concept of the avatars was awesome. I just loved it and I'm not that into sci-fi movies, but this was effing awesome. I don't know what people were talking about; the dialogue was fine to me, the story was fine, the effects were amazing...there was nothing I found wrong with this movie. My favorite of all-time as of right now! BETTER THAN SEX!!

The movie sucked I was disappointed with James Cameron because I usually love his films, this was just overly hyped bad acting (Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribsi and Steve Lang). The only thing I can credit this movie about is the special effects one of the worst films I have ever seen. The storyline sucked ASS it was unbelievably crap the movie was dragged on for WAAYY too long. The concept of the movie is fantasic but I would rate this movie some o' BULLSH*T

This movie is probably the best thing I've ever seen The effects, obviously, are the most amazing effects in the world! It made me believe that there was really a world as pandora, and also that there was a race of na'vi living there. Yeah the dialog for the general guy was a bit sloppy, but its too good of a movie to be snippy about it. I loved the cast and yeah, Zoe Saldana did an amazing performance as Neytiri. I think people are being too focused on the message this movie was giving, which was we need to stop wasting resources and cutting down rainforests and keep the beauty of it all, but that was the whole point of the movie, that and just creating a masterpiece of a movie. I loved the story line, even if the ending was a little bit predictable, it was still enjoyable, I thought the cast was perfect, and I didnt see that much of a connection to other movies, but, I havnt seen Dances with Wolves, I really enjoyed it too much to give any real criticism. The battle scene was epic and so was the whole movie.. I cant call it anything else. As much as I love this movie, Im anxious about a second and possibly third instalment, as with a lot of great movies, it might get trashed by sequels, and that would be tragic. Over all I give this.. a High BETTER THAN SEX! Just the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

Beautiful effects and old concepts, thats all. I tried so so so hard to love this movie it seemed great but after watching it a few times im almost disgusted to say the least. At the begining it looked great then it faded into a rip off of dances with wolves. they tried making the na'vi look sound and act like indians which is very unoriginal. And what "disgusted" me was the total waste of such a well put together film. I mean why make Jake Sully so blatently betray humanity, they ruined the whole thing for me, very unpatriotic. Then there was the fact that they ripped of so many great movies, Dances with Wolves in particular. Then the last thing is how they shoved a useless moral down your throat and did so through bad dialouge. Its like "ok guys, list of things for avatar- betray humanity, rip off old concepts, and tell people NOT TO FREAKING USE FOSSIL FEULS!!! OR WE WILL KILL THE EARTH AND BECOME DOUCHEBAGS WHO SLAUGHTER A WHOLE RACE FOR A ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I mean no offense but thats what they did. They dont even try to hide the dumb morals, they spell it out though the whole movie. And its sad because I had high hopes for this movie. But I did like this movie, even though they ruined it, it was nice. The effects were incredible, theacting wasnt all that bad, and the creatures of pandora were awsome, and when that big ram thing came out of the forest it was played like an intro scen from a monster hunter game, and ive waited my whole life to see that kind of cinematogrophy in filmaking, which just makes me even more dissapoined in how they wasted what seemed to be an incredible opportunity. Still a Full Price for what they did right. But if i rated the things i thought that made the movie bad I could only say F**K YOU!. So im sad for this movie, just why did they ruin it....

This is piece of shit . There nothing special here, I seen better films like Dark knight, Distract 9, and Cloverfield. The ending predictable, there nothing to surpize me here in shiting flim like this.

Better Than Sex. The special effects were amazing, the story was great, and the character's development made you believe that this was another species on another planet. To me, this movie was trying to tell us that we should stop bulldozing down land to build more crap that we don't need. We should live off the land like the Navi. When I saw this movie on the big screen, I felt like the happiest man on earth that this movie didn't have a love story that ruined it like so many movies out there. The only problem I saw was the digital notebook scenes. They were completely un-necessary and not needed.

I know many people thought this movie was absolutely amazing, but come on people, the ONLY thing that this movie had going for it was the effects. The story was Dances with Wolves, Last of the Mohicans, Pochahantas; it may have taken years and years to get the effects down for Avatar, but it only took two or three movies for them to get the story. Even despite the crappy story that we have all seen many times before, I don't think I'd ever tell anyone to not see it. my rating = full price
