    @ quicksandbuddy

1=this is not major subplot, it is a minor joke

2=this is not anti-religious, it is anti extremist religion, there is difference.

3=These are English writers, so going have man up and accept their going to give religions dumb sides a good kicking, in same way I as English person accept that most American TV has a pro-USA/Christian religious message to it. Most English comic's are white liberals, most white liberals are Atheist, therefore they write things with Atheist view. If do not like that, stay away from their work.

My view on this film, if forget this Nick and Pegg, and accept it as what meant to be, which is easy going, basic American humour (rather more extreme and twisted, dark English humour use too from these guys) then find this enjoyable. Not stunning, but more than watchable.

I rather enjoyed this movie. Mainly because I am a geek/nerd. But, hey the movie is made for people like me.

    @Quicksandbuddy

It's not even a significant plot point; the whole thing is one long recurring joke that is started with an argument between Paul and this super-religious woman. It quickly turns into a joke where she starts swearing at inappropriate times, and it's funny the first few times but it does fall flat after a while. It is really just one of a few sub-plots.

Honestly, I expected to see and hear something like this in the film, so it didn't really bother me that much. Had Paul gotten into continuous arguments with Christian characters about this topic, then I would have found it preachy. But it only happens once, and a a few jokes come off of this one argument. Don't worry about it, the movie is funny enough.

I hate films that stealth in anti-religion messages (see Invention of Lying). I don't mind if the movie comes right out and says it, but the ones that sneak in aggressively anti-religious plot points without warning the viewer about it often come off to me as very preachy and hypocritical. I was interested in Paul until I heard about that significant plot point.

I enjoyed the film and like seeing Simon Pegg and Nick Frost together they make a good dynamic-duo. I can understand final rating spill gave it but I would not have be disappointed to pay full price especially with the slim pickings of good fun films in the theater right now. The atheist sub plot was a tad annoying and fell flat to me (I consider myself agnostic so it was not offense or anything it just did not add anything) but the flick it self held together very well.

I thought this was a nice full price. I liked the references made in the movie, but what killed me was the audience I saw it with missed half of them.

Sigourney Weaver brought this film up to a low full price for me.

@ BadAss Knives You are an idiot to even believe in a guy in the sky.To say that It created other worlds just shows how little you use your so-called brain.

I wanna know where did it start that the existence of aliens will ruin the belief in GOD? Why? Maybe GOD created other life forms somewhere far, far away?

I agree with Leon, it's a good film but the references just became too much for me.

Please manufacture Cohost 3000 bongs sign me up now I will buy one. As someone who uses cannabis medically every day I really get a kick out of how other people perceive the drug. Their knowledge of the positives is less embarrassing compared to their knowledge of the perceived defects.

People get over the ads on the homepage GROW UP this is 2011, if you expect to make even a menial living in running a website advertising is required. As for the spill recommendation not meaning something it is a review site braaa, that means opinions are shared.

Although Edgar Wright was a crucial aspect of Hot Fuzz/Sean of the Dead I still think that Simon Pegg/Nick Frost can carry a movie. As for the atheist subplot good comedy is supposed to be able to make you laugh at yourself. If it didn't achieve that then I'll chalk it up to a swing and miss but I give a movie kudos for not being afraid to ruffle religious feathers.

At first (About 30 minutes in*) I thought too myself, "Wow, this movie kinda sucks." But then it starts to slowly pick up. And it doesn't let go, it keeps picking up and up, after its all said and done I liked it. It's nothing special but good.

The swearing bits were getting over my nerves, it was like watching a 13 year old trying to make up new insults. But I did like the stoner jokes, kinda reminded me Lebowski in a way. And man, those two agents were probably the dumbest you will ever meet. Even Mulder would have shot them after a while.

But I still give this movie a full price 'cause Paul was hilarious to me.

while it wasn't a bad movie, it just seemed like more of the jokes fell flat in this movie than actually worked, Maybe it's because i don't find stoner jokes funny.   As someone who was raised religious i didn't find the atheist subplot all that annoying i found that to be funny because that is how so many overtly religious people act, it seems this day in age most people completely miss the point that the bible seemed to make but i digress paul was worth seeing at a matinee price and i might buy it when it comes out

So you guys finally advertised a movie that didn't suck.  I'm shocked.  Spill promotion was becoming something of a kiss of death for films...

Edgar Wright is not the only genius of the crew. Great review though, I just dislike how I got the feeling they were undermining Simon Peggs importance to Spaced (which Edgar Wright did not write) and the Cornetto films.
