I think like most people say, this movie was a little overhyped, probably due to JJ Abrahms being on board thanks to his success with star trek and so forth. Yeah it wasn't bad, depends what your expectations were. If you go into the movie with none, then you would have likely enjoyed it. Sure there were various plot holes, and it got a little drawn out, but overall it was decent I think. lane recliner chairs recliners for sale swimming pools

    High rental for me

It was well acted and was fun whenever there was an alien on screen (so to speak), but not much more than that. Hated the stupid crowbarred moral lesson at the end

Hmmm... As i watched the film, two things became obvious. One the film is made out of favours to the kid actors, cause that's most of the attention is focused into. Two, the rather similar (but not necessarily a ripoff) elements to ET type of films. There are some elements of the film i like, growing pains of a kid and stuff like that. But the film is trying to sell both the family and monster genre at the same time. And it isn't mixing that well. My prediction is that these kids gonna end up like Drew Barrymore, famous from this kind of exposure. But beyond that, the film doesn't have that much virtue with it. Its boring not stale, not good but certainly not offensive. Except for the last 30 minutes when i realised the ET similarity, then i really wanted to walk off the cinema.

What does matinee mean when they say i would give this film a matinee?

This is a Full Price to me.  It is a great homage to Spielberg and that era of films as well as a great coming of age film; if you focus on the human story more than the monster stuff, then you get your money's worth with this, and the monster is some bonus.

In my opinion, that creature should have been an angry shoujo magical girl.

Hey, I resent that scene where the Air Force guys are fooling around! I'm in the Air Force and I know for a fact that no one wears red panties under their uniform!   It must always be Air Force regulation blue panties!   No, but seriously, great review, keep up the awesome work!

It's not a bad movie, but there's no reason for writers or directors to pay homage to any era. Film is a constantly evolving medium, and I'd rather the money and talent be spent on continually moving forward.

I finally got around to seeing the film and I saw just about everything the guys were talking about. Storytelling flaws, blatant homages and so on and so forth. Still, I wouldn't call it a disappointment, as it still had enough of that "Bad Robot" dazzle and compellingness, as well as strong entertainment value and knockout performances, especially from Elle Fanning. Looks like the new haul of next generation actors is a promising one. I found my fears met more than my expectations and while it's one of the weakest "Bad Robot" films, it still stands pretty strong. If I was on the panel, I would find myself dancing between high matinee and low full price. While the "low full price" sensation was stronger, the "high matinee" feeling was much more recurring, so I'm gonna say really high matinee. Sorry to plug my own bull in here, but if you want a more in-depth review, then here's my official review with a shout out to Korey in the first sentence.

I agree, the movie is really decent but it just gave us nothing new.  Lots of clichés, and I wasn't a fan of the ending at all.  The only thing unpredictable about the movie is how predictable it actually is.

Best part / the only thing that kept me interested was definitely the kids' performances--I thought Elle Fanning, the main kid and the fat one were absolutely stellar.  Most uninteresting part is ironically, the creature itself (boring!!).

this movie was going so so so well until the lame, chiched, "roll your eyes" moment at the end. how can you end a movie like that! it was really dark and suspenseful with a great cloverfield vibe to it and then it just ends with the dumbest solution. as it was ending i was thinking to myself "please dont let this be the ending there has to be more, something as exciting as the rest of the entire movie just has to happen" but no

See, this is a Full Price for me.  Brings back that GOONIES feel, with one of the most heart warming teen love stories i think i've ever seen.

And be sure to stay during the credits for one of the best post-credit sequences i've ever seen.

I'd agree with the rental/matinee assesment (why is that such a bad thing?); I thought it earned most of its points on two very touching emotional moments (one of which was predictable), but there were some pretty large plot holes.

Just saw this as a matinee and would definitely recommend it to others.  The movie was a ton of fun, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks guys. I listened to the audio review shortly before watching it and with my lower expectations I liked it. I've been all about Elle Fanning ever since I saw Phoebe in Wonderland (seriously guys watch it, you can find it on Netflix.) I wish they would have had more elements from Cloverfield though.

    Addendum to my previous comment:

Some things i liked were the humor, the acting, and the awesome completed horror film at the end.

I give it a rental. NOTHING WAS EXPLAINED!!! Warning: SPOILERS: Why was everything getting all magnetic? Why did the aliens ship dissolve in the fiirst place into those white cubes? Where did the alien come from? Why, after people said "its lonely/afraid/whatever" did they still scream in terror when they saw it? Why did one truck cause such a massive explosion? (I laughed throughout that whole scene) Why was the alien capturing but not killing people? Why was it eating people? (as opposed to anything else) Why did all the dogs run away? and biggest of all: WHY DIDNT THE ALIEN LEAVE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MOVIE???
