this movie looks like is based on the 1980s court case of the white guy that shot and killed three gangmembers and got away with it. in the 80's gangs were killers for no reason. remember that big f**k tookie willianms? but they still do some nasty shit here and there. i loved this movie. i wanna go buy a gun and be the punisher cause of this. and no one else could have done better than jodie foster.

I never normally disagree, but I'm on a completely different side with this film- it was horrible. It was Batman meets Beatrix Kiddo and not even done well. I'll agree that some elements are questionable, but I would think you DO care about them particularly when the main character is an impersonation of a vigilante. Foster said she never fired a gun before, yet she can kill a couple of guys on a train, a guy in a convenience store, a man driving towards her in a taxi, and take a crowbar to a guy's head while still claiming she's never fired a gun? Give me a break. This movie was an insult to the vigilante genre. All of Foster's crimes are spurs of the moment and she never develops as a character because it's her against the world- never mind the fact that the film tries to make us believe that her vigilante justice is justified by post 9/11 fear. No. Tarantino got it right with Kill Bill, but Neil Jordan just put Foster in the wrong place at the right time with a gun she never happened to reload. Terrence Howard did not need to be in this movie. I found myself enjoying his partner's one liners more than anything Howard did. And for Howard to end the film by giving Foster a gun so she can execute someone legally and STILL let her walk away with her dog? This movie should be listed as a cliche for bad attempts at vigilante films that bring nothing new to the genre and leave one too many unanswered questions that don't help the film's message at all. I'll agree that the film, after the attack, does help examine her grief, but just like Panic Room, Foster doesn't bring anything to the film. How she got a Golden Globe nomination with that dead look on her face is beyond me.

I think that Jodie has been type cast as the victim in a lot of movies. I wonder if she will step out side of her usual roles and try something different.

I don't really agree that the fact that in a month she's attacked two more time as a flaw, because I think that's the mood Neil Jordan was trying to develop. She's a victim, but overall she crosses the edge of innocence to enter the street of revenge. I guess the only way to show that was through attacks like those. I think this picture is sucessful, and jodie foster is better than ever.

If you ask me The Brave One and Death Wish are like Freaky Friday and Vice Versa, there the same movies but the main charecters are different genders

Nice review guys, I think Jodie Foster always plays the victim because thats her greatest asset as an actress and it almost always works eg Panic Room.

This movie looks pretty awespme. I kind of got tired of Jodie Foster playing the same charecter. But this movie has Terrence Howard. I'll watch something like Epic Movie as long as he's in it.
