I actually liked this movie. Apart from a little bit of bad acting and a few unintentionally funny scenes, I can't see why the critics were so harsh. It was just so disturbing and creepy and had a really cool message to go with it. I would see this again for a recap.

I give it a low matinee, even though that doesn't matter now.  It's a fun little B-movie, Shymalan said, "All we're trying to do is make a great B movie.  And even if it wasn't, i've seen many worse movies than this.

Rental. This movie has a lot of holes throughout it that never get answered. It is a neat movie to watch if you like syfy movies of people killing themselves. Even at the end of the movie, they never explain what caused the problem, they just give an educated guess.

The only reason I don't give this movie a Some Ole Bullsh**t! is cause its so damn funny. So, if you have a case of beer and friends, its a very, VERY low Rental.

I find Shamalan's movies to be fairly boring. Every sing movie he has made, with the exception of 6th sense, has put me to sleep.

I saw this film with my good buddy 6 months ago & i'm going to give it a "some ol' bullsh*t!" rating. I found it boring & a complete waste of time.

I would go with a very low rental for this crap. M. Night hasn't done a truly good film in years. He started off as the next Hitchcock and now he has practically become a joke. I mean this guy has proven that he's extremely talented so I'm not sure what the deal is. Maybe he should try directing other peoples screenplays for a while. His writing his really poor in this one. As the review said, in places it was just funny. The twist of what is "happening" really is one of the worst concepts I've heard recently. Even Hitchcock's The Birds had a better concept. Or maybe is wasn't The Birds concept that was so good so much as it was the direction. The direction in The Happening is mediocre at best. The acting is pretty terrible for the most part. Mark Wahlberg was so wooden that I was surprised he could move. Zoe Deschanel was so hard to watch. John Leguizamo was the only actor to show any depth in this whole film. Oh and what was up with the old lady near the end? The film started out pretty good and interesting but quickly falls to crap after the first half an hour. M. Night really needs to take a breather and think carefully about his next project. Something he apparently didn't do for this movie.

I don't know what people are talking about!!! This movie was great, Mark Wahlberg and John Leguizamo are great and create a great horror atmosphere. The story is a little dull and weird but overall it's misterious and fun. No doubt it's worth watching a couple times so it's a buy! MATINEE for me.

In all fairness, as soon as I came out of the cinema with my boyfriend and his buddies, they were all... rather annoyed they'd just spent their money on that crapfest. I thought it was alright, in an initial opinion. But then, it all started falling down when I thought about it. - Seriously. What the heck? The main plot 'pseudo-twist' is revealed halfway through the movie, and it just makes you go 'Oh no. Another bleedin' treehugger environmentalist film' ...In all fairness, that's exactly what it was. - The goofs. Did anyone else see the microphone pop out in the scene where they were in the house with the creepy old woman? Generally, my best way of summing it up is like a feature-length public service announcement, and a bad one at that. With a film like that... kinda made me want to go burn both the next plant I see, and M.Night on the flames to smoulder along with it. =D For me, The Happening was just Some Ole Bullsh*t. Oh wait, hang on. Only redeeming feature was the soundtrack, which was genuinely eerie and good enough to make me go 'This is gonna be awesome' at the intro of the film. Oh how things went downhill so fast...

I totally disagree with NYMETSFAN2191. I think people should see this movie. It's so bad, that it's entertaining for all the wrong reasons. You can't even say that about Lady in the Water. M. Night has hit rock bottom and crawled out the other side.

The Happening is M. Night Shyamalan's latest movie. A film that pretends to make conscience that we must take care of our planet, without achieving it. It is supposed to be a suspense movie but frankly I didn't feel it. The story about a family on the run from a natural crisis that presents a large-scale threat to humanity seems to be very interesting and original but very bad developed, what I mean is that the movie begins directly from the conflict, there's never an introduction and there's no closure or conclusion either, it ends exactly the way it begins. The cast is very good but their performances lack of intensity. Mark Wahlberg I a good actor but in this movie wasn't good at all, he tries to be funny in some scenes but he just can't do it. Zooey Deschanel, she is pretty but I feel her acting just plain and empty and John Leguizamo well maybe he was the best one. Maybe the only good thing in the movie was the music, it just makes you feel a little bit of tension and mystery In conclusion, I feel a little disappointed and if you want to watch it, you better wait for the DVD.
