I thought it was dull, went on too long, none of the dwarves had any character growth.

Truth be told, I'm pretty picky on the Lord of the rings movies for only a few reasons (don't get me wrong they are very good movies). the things that I dispise the most are: Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins (I really want to bitch slap Frodo across the face in all three films, because he complains about everything from"the ring is becoming to heavy Sam" to "were a long way from the Shire" (:( . Reason #2 I fuck'n hate Sam!! (I wish Golem kicked Sam in the crotch & ran for it) & is it just me or near the ending of The two towers, did Sam give Frodo a super gay look? (& yes I still think that moment in Clerks 2 about LOTR is still hilarious). Reason# 3: Since Gandalf can summon A bird(s), why doesn't he/&/or others fly them right to their destination instead of walking 52 miles on foot (if I was Gimli & I was trailing behind both Legolas & Strider that long I would be saying "guy's why did we not bring any horses"? The last problom I have........I don't really care for the Elves that much (Except for Hugo Weaving & Liv Tyler, they rule) & that's it. I saw the Hobbit (or how my friend & I like to call it for a few yucks "The Hoobit", makes it sound like something from Dr.Suess lol) a while ago & I thought was a good film (even though I found out that it's going to spread into three seperate episodes BULL- &- SHIT!! Fuck you Peter Jackson you money grubbing fat bastard!!!)

My Uncle Jose and I saw the 7:00 P.M. movie presentation of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in 2D last Saturday night.

The only 2 things that I knew walking into this movie were this:

    1. The story: Bilbo Baggins (played by Martin Freeman) is a reluctant hobbit who wanted to be left alone in his quiet comfort which is a hobbit-hole who is called by the wizard Ganddalf (played by Ian McKellen) and 13 other homeless dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (played by Richard Armitage) to go on an unexpected journey across Middle-earth to go to The Lonely Mountain to get their gold back from Smaug the dragon.

    2. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is a prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I thought that The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was a fun, funny and epic prequel with a very good story with a lot of funny lines written by Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Guillermo del Toro, awesome acting performances by Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage and Andy Serkis, great directing by Peter Jackson, fantastic visuals by Weta Digital, incredible action scenes, amazing music by Howard Shore and a charming message about a good and brave hobbit learning not to doubt himself and his intelligence to gain the confidence necessary so that he can make a big difference in the world no matter how confusing and difficult the mission may seem at first.

Overall If you haven't read The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolken or seen the beloved movie trilogy like I have and you lower your expectations then I guarantee that this fun movie will be an unexpected surprise of a good movie for you just as it did for me.

I give The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey a Full Price and I hope you enjoy The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Great review, team! I like the extra animation effort that's gone into the recent scripted video reviews lately, but this one seems a lot more natural, less scripted and captures the fun and personality of the team much better. Great work!

Oh, and The Hobbit was fantastic. Didn't get the opportunity to see the 48 FPS version here in Australia, but it was great regardless and I can't wait for more.

I saw this Christmas Eve at Universal Orlando, my question is the IMAX 3d version HFR or not?

As for the movie I thought it was awesome but you need to see on different formats than normal.  I don't think I would have enjoyed this in my normal theater.  That scene where everyone is on the bridge falling gave a slight case of vertigo and the scenes with Golum, amazing.  It's like they gave him skin so he actually looks like he's actually there vs. the Trolls seen earlier and his sequence awesome.  The one thing that I'll give this over the LotR trilogy is closure.  I absolutely hated the cliffhangers the of the first trilogy, here it ends you feel the story of our characters at this junction has reached its conclusion and that the end for now.  It's most definitely a high full price from me.

Im not too big of a fan of this review. Took like 3 minutes to get to actual review when I was actually curious though I suppose I can listen to the audio review. I felt like a lot of the jokes in this one came flying at me a million miles per hour. Its alright to have a few quick jokes but a bit of build up would be nice. Also I don't know why but the whole staring into the camera and head gestures come off as more fake.

I had a ton of fun watching The Hobbit, the camaraderie between the gang was excellent. Great review, it may have scripted elements, but it comes off as laid-back.

Great movie, I saw it as a matinee but would pay full price. Whole time kept hoping it wasn't over the time blew by; I dare say I even liked it more then Fellowship of the ring.

This is definitely my favorite film this year. the 48 frames was hard to get passed for the first 20 minutes, but after that i thought it looked gorgeous. One of the most visually pleasing films ever!

I really liked it over all. I definitely have to agree with the general critical consensus that it's not as good as the original films but that's mostly because it's source material isn't as strong. The Hobbit was written as a fun children's story and is just much lighter than Lord Of The Rings.

It did feel a little long and bloated. It was usually very obvious when the movie went against the book and added in new elements to try to stretch out the story. It's hard to imagine how Jackson's going to carry this over three films. I felt that jumping so much outside of Bilbo's point of view really takes an important ingredient away from the book. In the book, the reader goes on this journey with Bilbo and he's our eyes into this world. In the movie he really just felt like part of an ensemble of main characters so it was a little less focused then I would have liked. I thought that there was an over use of CGI which the original movies did such a brilliant job at reserving only when needed. I didn't like some of the cartoony action of having characters fall over 200 feet, smashing off rocks, and slamming onto the ground with out more than a scratch. Though these stories take place in a fantasy world there are still some basic rules of logic that the earlier films tried to stick by, like if a character falls 200 feet then they are probably dead. I don't think that they utilized the New Zealand landscape as well as they did in the original films. Again there was just too much CGI enhancement to different environments and things felt much more artificial than the previous movies.

All of these issues aside though, it was really a fun ride for the most part. The Gollum scene was great and definitely the highlight. The effects really have evolved and the character has never looked better. Serkis just steals every moment that he is in. Freeman may not look much like the way that Bilbo was described in the book, but he was perfect for the movie adaptation. I just wish that the movie focused a bit more on his perspective like in the book. Jackson did a great job at making all of the dwarves different and unique. Having fifteen main characters is a tough juggling act and I think he did a fine job. It was great seeing familiar faces again, though some of them felt forced. There was some great humor in there and some colorful characters. In the end, it was just great revisiting Middle Earth. It was like running into an old friend and catching up. The Hobbit is a must see but it's not equal to Lord Of The Rings.

But yes, some scenes did look like I was watching an expensive TV show.  That is an issue.

I loved it.  It's a must see for anyone who is into LOTR or the books.  The HFR 3D made it look like no other movie I've ever seen.
