I'll admit it, I liked this movie. The cinematography in this is the BEST cinematography I've ever seen in a movie (besides 'The Dark Knight'), and the fight scenes were SPECTACULAR! Two problems; 1: It went on too long, and 2: The dialogue is terrible. To me, on it's own, it's a Full Price, compared to the original, it's at best a high rental.

I just finished this....note for note the same F*cking movie as the original. Even half the dialogue...I mean jacket on, jacket off? That motherf*cker is supposed to be wax on, wax off.  I rate it a rental the same...but for different reasons. Decent film on its own. But come on...it was done in 1984....I was not surprised once in this film and sorry when I see a remake, for it to be worthwhile I want to be surprised.

ok, to me, the problem i had with this movie is before seeing it i was like..."oh well this is just gonna be the same damn thing as the original with different characters, and they throw in small references to make people like 'oh hey i get it' and all that crap" which is a thing i dont like about remakes, i mean they could at least change a little aside from outer appearance...they everyone who saw this in theaters told me "oh its more of its own movie than a remake, its completely different"...well i just watch the original Karate Kid on tv a few days ago, so that movie was fresh in my mind when i watched this earlier...well i was right, i mean theres changes of course, but this movie is so alike the original it every followed the structure completely...so i was sitting there the whole time like "and this will be the part he helps him...this will be the part where they go on a date...this will be the tournament coming up..." so basically i could have just saved my time and watched the original and enjoyed it more a plus i will give this movie is Jackie Chan's performance, he did very well in this, i just didnt like Jayden Smith's performance because of my biased hatred for that kid haha

Idk why alot of people didnt like this film, it was a good solid movie everyone acted out thier parts great there was no one acting like the original characters except for the story arc itself, I liked the fight scenes and I d like how they pay he correct homage to the original there were some flaws for exp how he learned kung fu so fast and how fast and there were some parts of jaden where he goes back to his usuall complaining in movies. For me this is a Low FULL PRICE Its not something that u have to see right away and u wont be upset paying it

It's almost impossible for a remake to surpass the original, but this version may not have done that but it certainally proves that is just as good as the original. Jaden Smiths performance is virtually solid but it's Jackie Chan who steals the show. Rather than rip off Pat Morita's Mr. Miyagi, Jackie makes Mr. Han his own and relys souly on his acting rather than nothing but all martial arts. FULL PRICE!

I was not impressed with this film. I felt like Jaden Smith was trying to hard..and i didnt care for his acting. Other than that, it was ok. i like most of the fighting in this film.

Gonna have to disagree with you fine gentleman here, this is a Matinee for me. It slowed down in the middle but overall it was very good!

I was skeptical at first, but I was surprised on how good the movie actually was. Rental is too low, this deserves matinee.

i agree with this reviwe and the lil kid playing the bully was shit scary :S i think it was the eyes that did it lol, to me the old Karate Kid was so much better than this one, i like jackie chan i do but Pat Morita was so much better at playing the role in my opinion.

This movie was a Full Price for me, even though I thought it looked like crap from the trailers. I'm glad it's different from the original because times have changed, so what do people really expect? This movie was REALLY good, but I was surprised that it was over 2 hours long.

I gotta say Matinee thats because I am a fan of Jackie Chan and I love the Karate Kid Original, but this movie wasn't much of a remake cause everything was different like names and storyline, it was more like a Copy-Cat Movie of the original Karake Kid but don't get me wrong the movie was good, Jaden had some moves..by the way people stop hating on the Spill Crew these guys are awesome..add me as a friend people and check out my free movie site on my Spill Page

First of all, all you haters can get over yourselves. The Spill Crew is entitled to their opinions. Second, I think they should have kept the original title they were planning for this movie, "The Kung Fu Kid." It would have at least had a seperate identity to the original movie. It was still a good movie, though.

the 2 reasons i watched this was because of jackie chan, and how it is totally different from the original in terms of its construction...but it is still a good film, and still, full of many good things...

@ O'Ljubcic. Thanks, but I know Kung-Fu came from China and Karate is based in Japan. The point I was attempting to make is that for whatever reason the script was written for Mr. Miyagi to take the opportunity to state his Karate originated in China. The movie never mentioned if his father then added his own pesonal spin to make it a hybrid of the two, if it stayed Kung-Fu or if it became something else. That could have been for a number or reasons we'll never know. I was just making the comparison that it could be argued both movies, the 2010 version and the 1980s version are incorrectly named. Apologies if that wasn't clear.

@Jenn-Jenn Kung fu came originally from China. It was introduced to Japan sometime in history, and over the years people such as Gichin Funakoshi changed the form and style of kung fu to suit their own purposes; in this way did kung fu transform into karate. It's safe to assume that Mr. Miyagi's father, or whoever it was, brought kung fu from China and altered it into Miyagi-do karate. Daniel was practicing karate, while Dre was practicing kug fu.

I'm sorry guys, but i think this movie is at least a high matinee. I finally got around to watch it, and i'd admit, I was put off by the title for so long, but I did thoroughly enjoy it

Technically the original Karate Kid was missed name as well. I can't remember if it was mentioned in the first one, bub in the second Karate Kid when Mr. Miagi went to Japan with Daniel, he said his family's karate was brought back by his father from China which would have made it Kung Fu. Not saying that makes it right, just pointing out the original franchise had it wrong too.

@ Chris. You know the original title was the Kung Fu kid, but I guess they figured people would relate to the title Karate Kid due to the classic predecessors. Just a marketing thing.

Does no one understand the difference between Karate and Kung Fu...its Japan and China. Its like making a movie about quarter mile drag racing and having drifting in the entire movie, sure it involves cars but come on (no, thats not a shot at fast and the furious)...its two completely different styles of martial arts. How a movie called Karate Kid can use kung fu is beyond me, all they did is want to jump on a classic movie franchise and exploit the name to promote sales...Just call it the Kung Fu Kid or Wushu Kid For an example at the differences watch Jet Li's Fearless.
