I have a friend with a speech impediment that has been bothering him for years. Leaving this movie he took it very personally. If a movie makes you feel that way and have different emotions it deserves a strong full price!

I still call it bullshit that Inception lost Original Screenplay to THIS film!

    Amazing film about speech therapy.

And an excellent performance by Geoffry Rush. You never woulda guessed some time ago he was Captain Barbossa.

You've been saying that a lot of these dramas get too slow. Well, correct me if I'm misunderstood, but you wouldn't expect ridiculously fast pace in a movie without guns, wouldn't you?

not going to lie i was surprised at the review, i loved this movie and it earned the awards that it got.  Being a movie and history buff i thought that this movie was easily the best of the year, but the other nominees were also very good.  I dont know why people are hating on this movie so much, all aspects of this movie carried it through to its victory last night.  This is the first time im disagreeing with the spill crew, this is a high full price if not better than sex.  Love the show you guys are the best, keep up the good work

"The King's Speech" was good, but not the absolute best film of the year to me.

So truly great and original films like Black Swan, Inception, 127 Hours, and The Social Network loose to a generic and bland British period piece? Fuck you academy

Good film, not a great one. I'll admit it could have been dull with no personality or humor to it, being completely dry, but I enjoyed it. However the film to me  plays out like a child's book where I could read it to a child. There was once a king who could not speak. He feared the power that was likely to go to him and with the help of a commoner speech therapist who gave him courage, he was able to led his country into war and realize his greatness. The last 45 minutes has no tension. You know exactly where the film is going from beginning to start. It good old fashioned, conservative, unoffensive triumph of the human spirit fun and that's good seeing as how few films are made like that particularly for some people like say aunts, uncles, and grandmas, but I can't help but feel like I have to merely love the film because its that kind of film that wins oscars and has an uplifting quality to it. I think The Social Network hits all the same grounds and does far more. Bittersweet? Yea, but its a film I'm more likely to remember over the years.

It's like The Blind side winning Best Picture, over Citizen Kane (even though The Social Network is not the eqiuvilant to that.). To me, The Social Network deserves the oscar more. And I would bet that Inception or The Kids are all right would, could, should take home the prize for best original Screenplay.

NOt a great movie. It's not that it was bad, it's just nothing we havn't seen before, with great performances, art direction, and costumes. When I read scripts, I ask questions. In this script, I bet I would just state what is going to happen on the next page. Either Low Matine Or regular rental.

Some say this is just oscar bait, but that generally means it has no worth other than that. This film, however, tore me up and really touched some heartstrings in ways that standard WW oscar films could never manage. I'd not hesitate on a better than sex, but that night me and the missus had some freaky ass sex, so i dunno.

    Love this film
