I have to really thank both my dad and my boyfriend for the reason that I am now interested in Marvel movies. If it hadn't been for them I would have never watched movies like Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, and even this movie Thor! I LOVED this movie, I thought the action was awesome! the story was interesting and easy to understand, the actors I thought were really good in it as well. FULL PRICE!

the biggest problem with this film imho is having a romance plot between chris hermsworth and natalie portman because the movie and the story didnt need romantic plot to work.wothout,it would have been better comic book movie, but with it it is a good comic book movie,i give it 4 out of 5 because of that, anthony hopkins was great in his role as odin, and i agree with Cohost 3000 that portman preformance was bad, flat and uninterested.

my big problem with this film was that it essentially was an avengers teaser, there were points where i enjoyed it, mostly Tom Hiddlston as Loki, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Anthony Hopkins in his small role as Odin, but other than that yea, it was a disappointment.

I wanted to like this. I came in with a good attitude and thought the posters for it looked kind of cool. After walking out of the movie, I had to ask how could it go so wrong. A few reasons.

1.) CGI overkill. Because Thor's world is so clearly computer graphics, it makes everything happening to it feel inconsequential. One of those many issues when special effects try to take the spotlight. Even little things feel incredibly fake (Thor twirling his hammer to fly is such an awful effect!)

    2) Acting is all over the place. Even in some of the film's best performances, the actors seem to have identity crisis. Sometimes they are over the top Shakespearean, sometimes they are doing self-aware schtick and sometimes they just have no character. Also include characters that contribute NOTHING to the plot (Kat Dennings, Thor's friends) and you get a forgettable cast. Not even Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman were able to save it!

    3) Comic book writing 101. If you have seen one comic book film, you saw this one. Almost all the major plot points are exactly as you would expect them to be. The only thing that catches you off guard are some inexplicable turn of events in the end that are totally nonsensical to character consistency (mostly for Loki)

    4) It is pretty much an Avengers commercial. Thor cannot work well as a standalone film because huge chunks are devoted to preparing us for The Avengers. Come on! Iron Man 1 and The Incredible Hulk only needed a half a minute plug and remained great stand alone films. Do not make an elaborate commercial to cover an empty film.

    5) Pacing is totally off. There are a couple nice fight scenes (Thor fighting the Giants, Thor sneaking into the SHIELD base), but a lot of the film is super slow. I do not mind slow, but only when it is appropriate and when stuff is actually happening!

    6) Thor just seems too powerful to be just a superhero. This guy is a god! At some point he is controlling the forces of nature to fight for him. You are telling me he is an equal to a guy in a metal suit, a dude carrying a shield and a dude with a bow and arrow? The Avengers better be fighting something like Galactus or it is going to be such a letdown.

    7) Almost no tension. Loki is such a subdued character that there is very little threat to go with. The SHIELD agents were more compelling villains than he was.

I did like various little things in Thor, but I was actually quite bored at the end. It does not live up to its much superior counterparts.

    RENTAL :(

This was a rental to me.

Natalie Portman tried to save this movie but in vain.

    Rental at the most.

this film is a film that i may consider between a average FULL PRICE and a High FULL PRICE!!!! but because of chris hemsworth's performance, i would give it a high FULL PRICE!!!

My main problem with this film is it dragged in the middle, SEVERLY. Natalie Portman is a great actress (most of the time) but the romance plot with her, infact all the stuff with her, just seemed forced and crammed in there for filler and to try and get a bit of estrogen in a very testosterone heavy concept.

But aside from that, any time they start a movie off in an amazing fantasy world then go "well, we ain't got the budget to do this for 2 hours so, aww shucks lets transport the characters to modern day Earth," you're just asking for let-down.

I just got back from seeing this.

Good lord was this terrible. The dialogue, the camera work, and the acting stick out as probably some of the worst shit I've seen in a comic book movie. I didn't have high hopes for this film and it severely underdelivered.

Low Rental. There were a few good scenes.

I have to say i really enjoyed this movie. The 3d was decent. The only problem i had with this movie was that i wish the ending had been more...action packed. I thought thor should've had a bigger ending and not just so kill then end. Other than that, i loved this movie!

Just got back from the theater and I really enjoyed it. 3d was ok (I expected it to be worse from what i got out of the review), but the acting was sharp, awesome cameos, feels like I was watching a graphic novel. all-n-all i think Thor will be a great example of how to do a marvel movie right.

I really enjoyed the movie, it was fun and a great way to kick off the summer. Natalie Portman was a little on the flat side so I totally agree with Co-Host on that angle. Overall, I loved it!!!

Spill crew personally i wouldn't even go near a full price rating for this film. yes i do believe that they did a good job on the film as a whole but there were times in the film, even for a fantasy, that were just plain stupid for example when Thor begs his brother the call of the destroyer and then as it walks away and thor get a bitch slap from it and the drops dead that just made me cringe. I would say that if you have already seen this before and want to see it again i would say rent it because it is not worth buying and the problem is is that I still enjoyed it.
