I love the graphic novel, I hate the movie.

Aside from getting the characterization of Rorsharch and Dr. Manhattan, and the overall visual style, this movie doesn't get anything from the book right. The costume changes feel out of place, the overall theme feels pushed out of the way, the villian is obvious, and, for the first time ever, I think Snyder's slow-motion gimmick feels overused in this movie.

ETA: Words "wife" and "drawing" from my first comment need to be switched.

I'm sure everything else in that comment is clear, though...

Look, the Spill Crew crack my shit up, but I have to be the one to hate on anything related to the porn and violence loving, child porn wife drawing, social dumbfuck Alan Moore.

His writing and characters are shit, writes rape into everything, AND HAS A WOMAN FALL IN LOVE WITH HER RAPIST in the book this film is based on. How does having generally innocent cartoons spill gore everywhere and rape each other make up for his lunatic obsessions?

I thought while Snyder did do his...Snyderisms I'll call them he did pretty much stay faithful to the source material so i gotta give this a full price

i totally agree w/ you guys. this film is beautiful but it wasn't that memorable. i love jackie haley's performance here. he has an interesting look. so plain but like i said. interesting. i love the comedian too.

i didn't like the girl. she seems to be a total whore.

the speed up slow mo was okay. i'd give this a matinee.

i kind of didn't understand the ending. i'd have to watch it again.

i really feel for jackie haley's character, i didn't like it when he died in the end.

Sorry to say but I did not like this film. The special effects were cool but the story was totally discombobulated and their were way too many sex scenes going on in the film. This movie is better known for a sex film then a super hero film. I give this film a very low Retal to say the most.

The acting/character of that one guy with detective hat and coat was superb. But other than that, the rest of the characters were so weak. If it wasn't for the weak characters, this would have been a Full Price.

Rental. This movie has a lot of great action and super-hero scenes, but they don't know which way to take it. Granted, I haven't read the comics, but why can't people decide to be good or bad? Throughout this entire movie, I was really confused on which side these characters were on. Another problem are all the un-necessary sex scenes. Also, Dr. Manhatten's penis doesn't need any screen time. Please put some damn clothes on him! This movie was like watching a superhero porno.

Now I saw this in theaters, and it took me a while to find out whether or not I liked it. I'm not an avid comic reader (or any graphic novel reader for that matter), so maybe I was just missing some elements that I would have had if I read the actual story. Now, I agree with a lot that was said here (Dr. Manhattan's penis: did it really need that much screen time?), but I'm disappointed that you guys didn't mention any of the music going on in here. Some of these scenes were so beautiful, and the music added so much to it. We have such a powerful opening montage that just sets the tone for where and when this movie takes place, with "The TImes They are a Changin'" playing, which is set so well and is so appropriate for all of these powerful images. The best scene for me was the opening fight scene set to Frank Sinatra, which was just so great (the slow-mo wasn't too much then and fit really well for me), and probably the funeral with Simon and Garfunkel playing in the background. As soon as I came home I went straight for iTunes so I could own all of this great music.

I thought this movie...as a movie apart from the comics(which I havent read) was great....I thought the plot was great and the ending....though not what anyone (who hasnt read the comics) would expect...left me thinking for a long time after the movie about why Manhattan did it....and the ramifications of the aftermath of Rorsach's final act

I really enjoyed this film. I think Zack did the book justice. The spill crew said the movie was missing the emotional depth from the book. But I never thought the book had that much emotional depth. This is basically the comic on film minus the giant squid which is dissapointing.. Full Price.

Full Price. Even though I was luke-warm to the graphic novel, I thought this was an amazing adaptation of the book. Not my favorite story, but a near perfect translation.

I finally got around to watching this; despite my being a huge fan of the comic the movie just never really held any real urgency for me. If you've read the comic and love it dearly, make sure you watch the Director's Cut. It is very close to being frame-by-frame (if not word-for-word) from the graphic novel for about 90% of the movie, although the tradeoff is that the film feels like it goes on forever at over 3 hours long. The acting is solid and the cinematography is fantastic, and you really feel the emotion coming off the characters. True, parts here and there are cut down or condensed to save on time, but nothing really major is lost from the story. Zach Snyder also seemed incapable of keeping himself from adding an almost 300-like level of violence to the film, so be prepared to see a good deal of gore in certain sequences even when it's not needed. Slow motion is abused at times but after a while you stop noticing it, and it actually gives you more time to appreciate the artistry of the scene (like you would with a non-animated comic book). My only real gripe is with the ending, but while something major was changed the end result is the same, and frankly would be less confusing to the audience; I remember having to re-read the ending of the graphic novel a few times just to puzzle out everything that happened. Bottom line: if you're a fan of the series, mid-to-low Full Price for the Director's Cut. For casual movie-goers, high Matinee (go with the Theatrical Version to save time).

I guess I'm the wrong person to ask about this movie because I am absolutely obsessed with Watchmen, I grew up with the comic and have been in love with it ever since. Why? Because the comic and the movie both made me rethink superheroes. It displayed (Yes in a extreme manner) the gritty realities of life. The Comedian was supposed to be a sociopath.....it's called irony. The point of this comic/movie was to ask the question "Do the ends really justify the means?" "Can we trust the people we see as heroes?" Zack Snyder did an incredible job translating the comic book into the movie, keeping all the themes and grittiness of the comic. The acting was spot on, sure some of the blood was way over done, but I was very happy with the movie. Honesty I would give this movie Full Price, for script/translation from the comic, directing, casting, filmography, and acting.

I think the Spill Crew is some what lenient towards this movie. I just could not get into it. The Comedian was a sociopath; he killed a pregnant woman for crying out loud! I did not care for any of the characters in the film. I give Watchmen a low, low Rental.

Just saw this for the first time tonight, and I actually liked it a lot more than I expected to!I have read the graphic novel this is based on.And no,like many comic adaptions,no it is not perfect. But,I still really enjoyed it.Yes,the three hour running time can be rough, but as Leon said,"I wasn't bored."Parents note, this is NOT a kids superhero movie! This thing is extremely violent and bloody!!Best acting nods go to Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach! For me,this is a high MATINEE!

Well, Alan Moore can bitch about the movie all he wants. I honestly say to him" Shut the Fuck up". The novel is indeed amazing and as an outstanding amount of depth and morality. But I knew the movie could not cover the whole fucking novel, it is just too much to cover. And i am glad they removed the squid ending, people wo have read the book will know what i mean. So, I honestly think Watchmen was a great comic-to-film adaptation. Alan Moore, stop bitching please. And just a note; if you have not seen the movie yet, do not until you read the book. I know many people who left the theater and hated the movie because they were confused, thinking it was too complex, bored (how were people bored i do not know. People were getting killed or beaten every 10 minutes), were scared of seeing a blue penis(people need to really grow up), thought it was too graphic (Well, then they have not read the source material then), or because some people are comic book loyalist and expected everything from the novel IN the movie. Nevertheless, suggesting you are not a comic book loyalist pussy and have not read the book, i recommend reading the book and then watching the movie. It is a very dark, complex, entertaining, superhero film, which was quite original. Full Price, borderline Better Then Sex.
