Sweet review guys, I really enjoyed this game. I have been eagerly waiting for a new Tekken cross game since 1977, when Tekken crossed paths with Marvel. Here is The Incredible Hulk vs. Kuma!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55nFsKUSK9M

I would like to see a DBZ v Tekken v Street Fighter, they could add that loser Super Saiyan kid from youtube as a character just so I could kick his ass without finding out where he lives and flying there...oh and avoid jail since he is a minor and I am 28.

This game is very scrub friendly and it has a lot of playstyles, mindgames and team synergy to keep the good players interested and having a blast. Just going into training mode to figure out some crazy shit has kept me on this game for HOURS. There are also many rooms in Endless Play where people will have their headsets hooked and they'll just talk to you about the game. I have experienced this in this game and in MvC2 where there are many rooms where people are always interested to help you get better at this game. They'll even coach you during your match to help you get better.

Online is honestly not as bad as other games. I live in Qatar and I play with a few of my friends in the US. The lag was not as bad as SFIV or UMvC3. It was a little more tolerable.

As for Capcom's DLC shit, if you have a company and your number one priority is NOT getting money, then you're doin' it wrong, let's just say that. I could care less about it. If you make good products, I will buy them. If I'm interested in the DLC, whether it's locked on the disc or not, I will buy it.

I'd been looking forward to this game for a while, but there is NO justification for this continued fleecing in Capcom's practices. My position is simple. There is nothing wrong with unlocking characters and content through GAMEPLAY. At the very least, we should be given that option as opposed to being forced to pony up more cash for the full experience of the game. No matter how you look at this, the idea that buying this game means an additional $20 charge is as absurd as it is inexcusable. Fighting titles aren't like other genres when it comes to DLC because additional characters are a necessity in order to truly play the game. You're at a disadvantage if you don't have access to the full roster, and this is a genre that is all about direct competition. So, if I'm using characters that you can't or even practice against, you're fucked...and over $20 that you shouldn't be forced to pay. This is bullshit, and I'm only buying this game used.

What does it matter if they ask you to download 20 characters for 2 gb of data. Hell, the demos are getting as high as 3gb these days. Don't defend capcom based on the fact taht they give you a few dozen characters, this IS ABOUT being nickel and dimed! it's paying 80 dollars for a game you already paid for whether it's for a couple of characters at 4 bucks or the whole mess for 20 it's wrong and it's a precedent people should NOT stand for!

There's also the question of the broken mulitplayer co-op on the xbox version. I couldn't give a fuck about 360 but I still thing that's a great big fuck you to xbox owners, I mean they go through the whole effort of claiming they put all these characters on the disc for some BS about compatibility and you can't bash in a way into the code to give them the same multiplayer features they give PS3? They'd be lucky to sell half as many 360 versions as PS3 versions... If they sell any at all with the way they're already screwing over people with the DLC issue already.

Really solid review guys. I reviewed this in a blog recently and Jeff and I are basically on the same level on this one. A great fighting game for you and your friends, but that's about it, kind of a weak story and the online world is still only reserved for those gamers who do nothing but play fighting games all year round, but if you're cool with that then hey, enjoy.

I want this game solely for Kuma and his hilarious combo special. Who doesn't love a dancing bear? I'll wait down the road though because most fighting games have special edition out in a year or so and I'm not hurting for this game.

Capcom is a money grubbing company, they do the same marketing strategies with pretty much all their fighting games at this point. Prime example, look at Street Fighter 4, three 40 dollar iterations later and numerous costume dlc's people are just rolling their eyes waiting for the next announcement of an "overpriced" patch. Fast forward to SF X Tekken and the problem you have is that the 20 dollar dlc IS ALREADY on the disc that we've payed 60 dollars for on day one. It's a matter of adding insult to injury for people who don't care for this type of DLC marketing in the first place. If a company is going to do moves like this they should really consider their consumer's opinions on how their content is being marketed to them. With Capcom however they pretty much have the fighting game market by the balls and know that people will shell out to be able to play with all their friends even if they'll never use the new dlc characters.

One of my biggest problem with fighting games is weak or no storyline. I'll even take something like MK:9's plot.

I understand what Professor Jeff is saying about DLC and Extra Credits did a really good piece addressing these very issues pretty even handedly (I really recommend watching it). However I feel there is bit a of a difference with EA and Capcom, both companies being somewhat notorious for their attitudes towards control over content and charging for it. Plus, their own statements regarding these issues are often controversial. But there really are a lot of characters in the game... Well, if you own a PS3, but that's another can of worms. A great review nonetheless from you guys, though. Keep it up!

I'm not a fan of DLC characters but I'm also happy the day of unlocking characters is over. Really I just don't like locked characters for fighting games (Which is what they're doing in this game... grrr)

. It always sucks when you get good at the game with a certain character and go over to a buddy's house to play only to find out he didn't unlock your character.

I miss the days when you could actually unlock characters just by playing the game.

  • March 22, 2012 at 10:40 PM, said ...

This is my problem with the DLC characters - In Tekken 3, there was a huge variety of characters to unlock, and you did it by progression. By playing the Arcade Mode many times, building your technique. This.... doesn't reward progression at all, it just throws them at you if you have the money to pay them. It's exactly the same with the Collector's Edition, it gives you an advantage for how big your wallet is, I really don't like that general idea. DLC is great, but it should broaden the game, not simply do the work for you.
