I know I am waaaaayyyy late to the rodeo (a month behind on my podcast listening), but thought I'd chime in none the less. I am listening to the Trayvon Martin talk right now and can agree and disagree with many of the points brought up by the LDT crew. If I put myself in Trayvon's shoes, I'm not 100% sure that I would have handled the situation any differently. Someone following me while calling the cops and making accuastions, I would at the very least confronted him verbally. Things may have worked out the exact same way, and it is a tragedy.
As far as the investigation being handled differently due to race, I would have to say that you may be a little off base there. A week after this recording a very similar case with the races reversed happened in Arizona, check out the story. Google the name Daniel Adkins, and just read an article to famliarize yourself. The investigation in this case was handled very similarly. I believe it probably had something to do with the self defense claim, and the fact that the shooter called the cops and stuck around. There is no doubt that charges will be eventually filed against the shooter, but it's been a few weeks and nothing has been filed as of yet. Hopefully this story can at least put a little bit of the investigations perceived racism claims at ease.
During the first hour of Part II someone on the crew said that it Zimmerman had no right to act as judge, jury and executioner. I agree wholeheartedly. Unfortunately as a society, and on this very podcast, everyone seems to be acting as judge and jury in this case. We have seen more facts emerge as the investigation has finally started, and it is improtant that we let the justice system do it's job. Here's hoping that it will in both the Trayvon Martin and Daniel Adkins cases.

okay okay, @ Mark Sasuke. I won't engage in name calling or swearing anymore but since you are attempting to back up your argument with evidence I'm sure someone as "educated" as you are would like to hear actual statistics by a reasonably unbiased source.
Let's place the Trayvon Martin Case aside for a second and let's look at the closest complete year of reported crimes on record by the F.B.I.....
1. in 2010 there were exactly 6,628 incidents of hate crimes reported, (By participating agencies across the US) 7,699 offenses, 8,208 victims, and 6,008 known offenders.
2. Of this hate crimes, the ones that were racially motivated were 3,135 incidents and 3,725 offenses.
3.Of those the number that were anti-white were 579 incidents and 679 offenses with 697 victims. The number of those that were anti-black were 2,201 Incidents and 2,600 offenses with 2.765 victims..... about 4X the amount.
4. The percentage of the offenders that were black was 18.4%... the percentage of offenders that where white... 58.6% nearly 3X as much.
5. Only .3% of these were actual murders from reporting agencies and in that case it was pretty much even with a total of 7.
But in any case, hate crimes commited in the U.S. are in large part against blacks followed by whites with almost 4x's the amount commited against blacks and in a country where there's approximately 34.7 million black people and 211,460,00 + white people the disproportional number of crimes against blacks are down right insane if you can do simple math. But hey don't take my word for it. Read it up your self. That video you posted shows a terrible robbery and assault. Whether it's racially driven I don't know but I think most thugs hardly care about the ethnicity or race of their victims.

I really hope no one else follows this faux To-Catch-A-Predator shtick (as if the actual show wasn't an odd enough concept). From watching the video, it has nothing to do with bringing people to justice and everything to do with some kid's power trip and shaming other people (for youtube popularity?).

I hoped for your sake that this was a joke given that it was posted on April Fool's Day, but unfortunately not. I can't let something this stupid stand unchallenged.
"I can comment a lot about what I liked about this episode, there's a lot of what I loved and laughed at, but I'm just going to comment on the Trayvon segment."
It's probably best if you don't...ever, judging by the stupid shit your keyboard spews.
"Who gives a fuck? Why should anyone who isn't directly involved in the case give a fuck?"
Did you really pose that question about what's essentially a murder case? One that involves a 17 year old's wrongful death, no less? In a sentence, you've made everything you will ever have to say on any matter irrelevant. That is impressive.
"Do you know how many black people kill innocent white people all the time just for being white?"
Not nearly as many as the reverse. And there's also a history of the perpetrators walking away without punishment. Take a history class, and try not to fail it...
"The only reason this case is gaining publicity is because it victim was underage and black and the killer wasn't."
Actually, the reason is because an unarmed child with no recorded transgressions against the law was shot and killed by the son of a former judge, who unjustly stalked that child before confronting him. Then in the aftermath, he claimed self-defense in a situation that could never have escalated had he followed the instruction given to him by the 911 dispatcher he spoke to, the local police department did no follow-up investigation and let him go home free of charge.
There..that's a bare-bones description of the case that doesn't even factor in matters of ethnicity, conflicting narratives, or the magnitude of neglect on the Sanford police dept.'s part. That should clear things up for anyone else who might be confused too.
"Young people get killed all the time, all over the world. So why is this case any more special? I mean really."
In this case, which is as small in scale as you can get, the fact that our justice system has held no one accountable for the death of this boy is (and SHOULD be) seen as a problem. You're starting to feel like that dumbass that keeps asking the teacher questions right before class is over. Everybody else gets it, but you keep firing 'em, and they get dumber and dumber...
"Apart from the bias (and I use that word contrary to what you guys are saying) new reports, this case is really a non-issue and everyone talking about it are just jumping on the bandwagon of "what's the new hot-topic?" I'm tired of seeing this goddamn kid and fat ass everywhere I turn. Since when did LDT start talking about what EVERYONE else is? This delusional and ridiculous notion that talking about it is better than not talking about it or that having to talk about it will somehow help it is NONSENSE."
You listen about as well as you make valid points. The discussion was at the request of the community here. Aside from that (and your incorrect tense on "bias"--How hard was the extra "ed" to type, really?), this is a hot-button topic for a reason. A boy was stalked and murdered for obviously racially-motivated reasons, and cowardly morons like you can't change that by trying to run away from the fact.
"You don't always have to talk about the slightest racial issues. Stop forcing this shit. It's like someone going around with a huge sign saying 'THE WORLD HAS PROBLEMS' and forcing their redundant opinions down everyone's throats as if they didn't already know it. Fuck's sakes."
Here's the thing: Racism is a pervasive problem that plagues society in part BECAUSE people like you don't have the courage to face it and deal with it. It's like breaking a leg and thinking you can walk by pretending you didn't. If someone you knew displayed that kind of stupidity, you'd call them on it, right? Well, this is me calling you on your stupid horse-shit. I don't know you, and I don't need to know you. But everything you've said and posted here shows not only your complete lack of understanding of context, but that you are the embodiment of the problem. I'm gonna say something that not everyone may agree with, but I know is true because you prove it. Post-racialism is the new racism. Idiots and assholes trying to ignore an ingrained problem that's centuries old does nothing but allow the problem to fester. Racism at its core is inhumane. Seeing the value of "others" as less than because they aren't you or like you. That's what came across in your childishly dickish postulation of "bias" and "hypocrisy." It also conveys a false equivalence that's as stupid as it is sickening. You posted a video to support your piss-poor argument, but you failed to notice that the account name is "DIEversity," or that this person posts NOTHING but videos similar to this one in an attempt to construct and strengthen an image of the "evils of Black people." So, in the attempt to build your argument you aligned yourself with racists to ultimately convey a message that only a racist would try to make. I'm not saying that you are a racist. I'm saying that using their evidence to support your views only hurts you, and you subsequently aid the problem. Therefore, I respond with this...
Make yourself a part of a solution or shut the fuck up and leave. You are adding nothing to the discourse but stupidity and negativity, neither of which are useful. In short: shape up or fuck off...but have a nice day!

I definitely doubt that the reactions were as dramatic as they were for Hunger Games characters, but I've heard and read many complaints about all of the white actors playing different races. People seemed especially weirded out by Jake G. playing Prince of Persia and then the actors from The Last Airbender.

MY COMMENT to people who say NO to talking about Trayvon my question is this:
Why not? Why not talk about this? Some people say who cares, well why the hell don't you care? The way I see it, a man killed someone. I think if Zimmerman was arrested and prosecuted people would have been satisfied. It wouldn't bring Trayvon back but at least there was justice. The same justice that makes sure rapist and murders go to jail so we do not get raped and murdered.
My only comment to people of other race primary WHITE PEOPLE is this, IT'S NOT A FUCKING BATTLE OF THE RACES. Do not feel like you have an obligation *cough cough* Mark Sasuke *cough cough* to point out how many black people kill white people or the wrong black people do. A point I LOVED in the podcast when they mention the black panthers. You can't judge an entire race or society based on the actions of one individual of that race or society BUT you can learn how society treats a person of a certain race. Idgaf is Zimmerman is racist or not, thats not the point. THE POINT is that the police profiled Trayvon.
Well that's my opinion.. Oh, and I love spill.com! This site is awesome!

I just wanted to say that I'm glad Let's Do This talked about the Trayvon Martin story. I also thought I should say that me, a white woman, and my rare liberal NRA boyfriend believe that there was no way Zimmerman was "standing his ground" when he shot Martin. You can't stalk someone, then create a hostile situation, and claim to be defending yourself when you kill someone. If anything, Martin was "standing his ground" when he fought back!
And I'm sorry, but Mark Sasuke's comment that we shouldn't give a fuck is completely asinine. Police incompetency and young people getting murdered is not a "non-issue". It's a big deal and it happens in America more than you know, and maybe not everyone wants to stick their fingers in their ears and pretend that it didn't happen. Talking about it is more important than just ignoring it. Ignoring it just allows history to keep repeat itself.

@ Mark Sasuke, man, sorry to say this but the shit your saying is not only insensitive but idiotic. "Who gives a fuck"?? I DO, MOTHER FUCKER!!! A LOT OF PEOPLE DO!!!! and for you to paint it as people just hopping on what's new and controversial this week and dismiss it as some trivial pointless incident is not only insensitive but extremely insulting. Since you believe white people are dying at the hands of blacks everyday solely based on the fact their white why don't you enlighten us to such cases! The reason this case is prominent is because of not only the racial aspect of it but the institutional discrimination of the police towards minorities and the factual recorded long history of such events not the shit your trying to spew. One more time, Korey Billy and CoHost were asked to talk about this case by many Spill members including my self. I wanted to hear what intelligent thoughtful people who I admire have to say about a case that's relevant to everyone, because that kid could have easily been anyone's son. If you don't give a shit because you feel racism is equal across the board and so in turn there should be nothing said or done about it then you are a DAMN FUCKING FOOL!!!! Go listen to some other podcasts if you don't like what they have to say, your not paying for anything here bitch, last time I checked this was stills Korey's podcast and he can talk about WHAT EVER THE FUCK he wants!

I gotta say this was one hell of an episode. Glad to see Yalls spin on this thing and still let it not be 100% serious of a show. You guys always have a good balance of that kind of stuff so props.
As far as the Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin case goes, there are so many different stories on who did what and why and people trying to justify both sides. It comes down to this. Trayvon was a 17 year old kid who death is a tragedy no doubt about it. But what if Zimmerman was your brother or your friend too? I am not saying he is right (that man should never have been allowed to own a gun in the first place) but with so many people wishing he be hung and crucified, that is not helping Trayvon's memory or image. If something horrible happened to Zimmerman like he killed himself or was murdered, that would make matters even worse.
The real crime here is the police force and their lack of followthrough and the media distorting this whatever way they can to make money. This event is a tragedy and should have not happened but it did and now they need to figure out why it did and why the police did such a shit job cleaning up the mess.
Anyways great show guys can't wait to see y'all at spill.con

I cant put my finger on what it is exactly, but a few hours in I just stopped and thought, "you know what, I'm not really having any fun". Sorry Korey!

Sorry Electric Acidtest but Shut theeee FUCK! up. People asked them to talk about this case. Many Spill members asked Korey to bring it up, I being one of them. This is a very very prominent story that has so much relevance to Korey and Billy and to Korey's credit he cut it from last weeks "lets do this" to try and avoid it taking away from the light heartedness of that show and split this weeks let's do this to a two part'er so you get most of the same LTD on the first part. This is Korey's show, and he can talk about what ever the "fAWK he wants". Im glad he didn't ignore it just to satisfy people who like to stick their head in the sand. I find everyone on Spill to be not only intelligent but thoughtful and the fact that they speak to stories they feel passionate about with the honesty and integrity that they do is why I listen and subscribe to spill with as much enthusiasm as I do. If you don't like it find other PODCASTS TO LISTEN TO!!!! and STOP BITCHING!!!!
