Correct me if I'm wrong, but while they did exist within Japan at that time, samurai weren't actually using rifles 300 years prior to the 1860s (1560 and thereabouts).

Also nick, they did have a style of combat just like this in the LAST total war game, only that one sucks compaired to Shogun so most people forget about it.

Muskets were brought to the Islands in the early 15th century by Portuguese traders. Samurai did in fact use them, but not widely because Muskets of the day were widely unreliable when firing, it had nothing to do with honor.

Samurai had rifles more than 300 years ago, which is what I hate about the film "The Last Samurai".  Making it seem like Americans came to Japan in the 19th century and taught them how to use rifles was both pathetic and insulting.

This game series is pretty damn good, though.

Actually the Samurai where a social class as opposed to simply the warriors everyone thinks of them as and the weapon of a a Samurai was the Katana a true Samurai wouldn't be caught dead with a fire-arm there was no honor in it. In fact the Shogun made sure that stock piling or manufacturing fire-arms by other Daimyos was illegal. Although muskets etc were used in war but a fighting force of all muskets wasn't used in Japanese history till the Meiji Emporer defeated the Tokugawa Shogunate in 1867.

So in summary you are correct it wasn't a new invention but the use of Western style combat maneuvers and heavier weaponry by the imperial army was new/modern to the Samurai who remember had lived a relatively peaceful and unchanged life since the rise of the Tokugawa Shogunate in the 1600s.

And all the voice acting in Shogun 2 was Japanese. Only one guy spoke English and he was Japanese as well (Togo Igawa). They all speak English in Fall though. And I'm pretty sure they are actually Japanese for Japanese characters

Both sides used modern weapons. There are even some special gun units in the Shogunate armies.

Shogunate armies simply get a bonus to traditional (samurai) units but can ignore that and make full modern armies if they want. Hell, a few of them have modern unit bonuses.

You need the $.99 Blood Pack DLC to get blood and decapitations.

And if you bought it off Steam then patches are pretty much automatic.

Guys the samurai's would have had muskets because if you remember from Shogun 1 and 2 you can have musketeers along with samurai, Tokugawa did use them when he became shogun, but they are not MODERN because they have muskets and the imperials will have rifles and much more modern artillery. So its not a broken promise, also Creative Assembly ALWAYS have buggy games, ALWAYS, since Rome they have gotten worse...
