The first game I ever played that could be classified as a single player MMO would be the 1st run PS2 game "Summoner". That game was like MMO's of the time in every way except that everyone besides your party was an NPC. Back then, I thoroughly enjoyed the novelty of being in such a huge world and having it all to myself. Not so sure how I feel about it now that it has become more prevalent.

Great review. Its nice to hear a JRPG review that isn't either blind fanboyism or a rant about how the entire genre should be eradicated.

On a side note, even if Jason's not much of a JRPG fan, he definitely has good taste in them. Chrono Trigger is god-tier.

Oh yes, will you be reviewing Last Story?

Professor Jeff, have you played Magna Carta II? It's on Xbox360, if you haven't. I believe it's Korean, but it's in the JRPG genre. It's a game

I feel gets a lot right, including the experience of manning one character. Battle moves exhaust the character to the point they can not do anything for a period, so by design you to switch to another to continue battle. This can also net chains to refresh your characters.

Quests can feel like an MMO, in that you get exp, as well as standard rewards, however you have to return to the giver and you do feel like you're helping someone out. Getting all these done also won't overpower you, downloading a weapon pack will overpower you, though.

I wonder if Final Fantasy XII began the JRPG single player mmo trend.

Just got Borderlands because I am 3 years behind in gaming, and have experienced that the MMO without coop buddies is the boring grind.  Thanks for sharing y'all!

The soundtrack to this game sounds like the intro to an Australian game show we used to have here called "Sale of the Century"

I'm with Lastsuperjedai, I get that their not the best but you guys say in new email show that Walmart a better choice.........Why? I have friends who work at gamestop and their just doing what they need to do and look i'm pretty sure you hate the company not the people but even then Walmart is a definition of greed. For me i chose the lesser of two evils.

Though that Prototype commercial is there dumbest.

I have principles, dog gone it, but Ive never really had a problem with gamespot. If they want to ask me if I want to buy a hand book, or buy something I don't want to buy, all I have to say is two letter: N.O. That simple.

Haha, excellent review. Kind of wish Jason had played it during the Happy Hour, would've loved to hear his screams of agony experiences with the game.

Heard some crazy good things about this installment, and it's been a while since I've played a real JRPG that I've genuinely enjoyed. No time for the review now, unfortunately, will have to wait until later. Not expecting you guys to lavish praise upon it, of course, given its genre.

Do you review the games before you do happy hour?

The pink shirt worn by the main character both intrigues & infuriates me at the same time. Only Jet Black can wear a pink shirt and get away with it.

    great review as usual.

When is the loading bar going to do a review for the PS Vita?

they really hit all the negatives in the review, I cant really argue with it, so much that you overshadowed the really good positive. This is one of the top JRPG stories that I have ever seen (only saw the walkthrough). the main storyline just blows almost every recent JRPG clear out of the water with their main storyline and has one of the best, craziest endings ever.

I love the hell out of Xenoblade, and while I understand why some people might not like it, I definatly get why people are pointing to it as being a good reason as to why the JRPG still can be cool.
