actually agreed with all the negatives in the audio review , the story is slightly ripped off from man on fire (watched it the night before i bought the game), isnt a max payne game as they could of just had anyone as the main character and it still would have been the same, the amount of enemies they would throw at you to make levels longer took the realism out of the game ,  however the shooting mechanics are they best that ive seen in a 3rd person shooter and the game is just so addictive to play so its a full price to me but i can understand if other people didn't like it

wow, everyone in this comment section is an asshole. I actually agree with jeff, i Loved the first two, and the story and charm of what made max payne 1 and 2 great is gone in this game. Ill give max payne this, the gameplay is fun, and thats it. The story is a total rip off, which is why i wasn't so impressed in the story. I think most people are just sucking RStars dick, and they love it just because it has that name attached to it. As a game i think its fun, and thats it, its not deep nor is it anything new.  And as a Max Payne game i think it is easily the worst!

And I don't see how other critics' opinions should matter to Professor Jeff , he has his opinion; this is a good game , but this ain't no Max Payne .

I'm 100 % with Jeff , and screw you if you're glad that the comic book cut-scenes are gone !

Absolutely loved the game. Played through the first two before 3 for the first time since they were initially released and not only did it convincingly transfer from Noir New York to Sao Paulo but it also carried the traditional grit and darkness from its predecessors; however this one trumped them with its elevation into brutality. Definitely the darkest of the trilogy.

In terms of gameplay, it nukes 1 and 2 by actually making you feel vulnerable, therefore leaving you to strategically plan and take out each opponent on the battlefield rather than running and gunning like an invincible lunatic. For NPCs, the enemy were convincingly conniving, you really had to pay attention to all their movements and tactically decide when to pop out and blow'em away, however way you wanted to do that, that is. No gun battle will play out the same way. Oh, and the flashes on screen were there to indicate activity ahead of you, in cutscenes it wasn't bothersome at all.

Undeniably the best in the series and a true follow up to the originals.

"reviewing a game, movie, book or form of entertainment should be based off facts not just your opinions"

    lol

Seems to me as though Jeff's criticisms aren't invalidated by virtue of seemingly being in the critical minority. It's retarded to suggest that he reconsider based on the opinions or protestations of others, so for those of you with hearing, comprehension and or learning disabilities, he said, "I think it's a great game, I think it's the shittiest Max Payne game I've ever played.." << see that!? << that quote right there, yeah, fair about the content and quality of the game itself, to the point of giving it a Full Price, and measured in that he didn't like it compared to the previous games of the FRANCHISE, of which he's obviously a devoted fan. Soooo.. yeah, I suggest some kind of ointment for all your hurt butt's.

@Professor Jeff I just can't let this be! Are you honestly telling me that you stand by everything that you said in the Max Payne 3 review??? Including the statement that it is the WORST Max Payne game ever made!!!!

I think what has pissed off most of your critics, is your complete inability to meet any of them half way on these issues. Instead you divert the issue by saying they are just a bunch of "aggressive jerks."

When you have almost every gaming web site and magazine out there giving Max Payne 3 excellent marks, and your own Spill comments page is filled with irate gamers arguing that Max Payne 3 is amazing, you seriously need to reevaluate the motives behind your decision to be so critical of this game! I'm not saying that you should take a 180, but you at least need to work objectively, sighting positive and negative aspects of the game.

Max Payne 3 review was the most critical and negative description of a "Full Price" game I have ever heard on Spill.com!!! It's unprofessional for you to simply ignore that fact!

    @Gregory Alford

I'll explain it to you. You're being an aggressive jerk about your opinions. It's one thing to disagree and then go on with your life. It's a whole other thing to troll up a thread posting over and over again about how incorrect we are. You have already taken it upon yourself to make completely specious assumptions about our character, motivation, and history as if you know us personally and now you presume to tell us how we're doing the job of 'having an opinion' incorrectly. Actually, you've been pretty clear that you're talking about me specifically. So since you're talking about me, let's talk about this:

'I don't mind Jeff opinion but reviewing a game, movie, book or form of entertainment should be based off facts not just your opinions.'

I want you to tell me what 'facts' you're talking about because I have no idea what that's supposed to mean. I'm assuming you're talking about the Metacritic scores you posted earlier, but before you trot that out again, let me stop you right there. Metacritic is an aggregate of opinions, not facts. If that's what you meant then you're essentially saying: I don't mind Jeff's opinion, but reviewing a game, movie, book, or form of entertainment should be based off of what everyone else thinks, not just your personal opinion. Is that what you're saying?

  • May 25, 2012 at 4:34 AM, said ...

@ Raymond Payne I dont mind Jeff opinion but reviewing a game, movie, book or form of entertainment should be based off facts not just your opinions. Thats pointless and you called The Loading Bar crew a group of non professionals, nobody on this damn websites is a real critic then if thats the case then we all have just opinions and guess what i didnt agree with jeff plain and simple. Also who is anybody to tell Rockstar or any Video Game Developer for that matter the creation you created isnt really the creation you created.

Besides this How can any so called critic get upset about somebody criticizing them for criticizing other people work. Explain that to me

@ Jonathan Snyder yeah I got a little more left in me, you wanna try me. Oh yeah and those useless statistics I used are well respected even by the Loading Bar crew, The Wall Street Journal, Warner Bros. studios, Microsoft, and many Video game developers. So it does have a say so in the classroom because this is a site I can give my opinion to right? Thank You very much.

We're still talking about this? I thought we moved on to beard sucking and drug use. Color me disappointed in you commenters.

You know what, I feel like as much bitching we are doing about what Jeff said, the most offensive thing that was said in the review was Korey stating that "we wouldn't know a good movie if we'd seen one". I love Korey, I think he's funny, but as gamer who also prides himself on knowing a lot about movies, that comment was disgusting.

According to Metacritic out of 60 critics

    Positive: 57

    Mixed: 3

    Negative: 0

    According to the User Reviews

    Positive: 165

    Mixed: 18

    Negative: 33

So all and all I am more so going to agree with the majority then two video game critics who suck at playing games in the first place but it was still a funny ass review.
