I love Happy Hours but these were kinda boring. The gameplay looked repetitive and your commenting kinda helped not be one of the most boring happy hours ever. I have no reason to play this game.

I used to really enjoy Suda 51 games. That was until I started realising something, that they were nowhere near as ironic as I used to think they were. I'd say this trail of thought began while watching my brother try and get into Shadows of the Damned. He wasn't particularly enjoying the humor, too many phallic jokes for his taste, nor was he enjoying the gameplay all that much (He did however think there were some interesting aesthetics in the level design, saying its representation of hell was done very well). He stopped playing however when he got to the scene where Garcia is running over the huge naked body of Paula. I tried in vain to convince him that it was supposed to be symbolic of Garcia's inner turmoil but even I had to admit it was just trying to titillate when he literally ran over her huge wobbling naked breasts.

The realisation happened however while I was playing No More Heroes 2. Two girls were thrown up between the player and the enemy and were continuously sliced up until there was nothing left except a cloud of blood. I couldn't stand the screaming. Then it hit me. This wasn't meant to be ironic, it wasn't meant to be a tounge-in-cheek laugh at how anime girls are treated in otaku culture. No, this was genuinely meant to be funny, without the slightest hint of irony.

I've felt the same sort of disappointment I felt then when I first realised the same thing was true about Frank Miller and Mark Millar's work. Now while I'm not saying that anyone shouldn't be able to enjoy these things (by all means if you like this don't let my opinion deter you), I'm just saying that I don't find them as enjoyable as I used to think I did. Same goes for Army of Darkness. Loved it as a kid but I couldn't help but cringe during a recent viewing of it.

It sounds very much like a fast food Meal-Deal. It's not the best you can buy, it's not even that well put together.... but it's so damm good for the short time you have it, that it doesn't matter. :D Reminds me a lot of Rayman Origins in the same kind of mad fever-dream way.

@Kevin J Baird I agree and that's one of the reasons why your reviews are terrific. I work third shift and I don't want to come home just to be frustrated. Hell thats why I got a divorce. Keep up the good work man, makes a lot of our shitty days just a little less shitty.

Kevin, I agree, the difficulty of a game is an important aspect to discuss when reviewing. And not just the combat, there are games that are so vague about what to do next you'll be running for a guide frequently, screwing up the flow, and frustrating platform mechanics that'll have you replaying the same area to exhaustion. But then there are games that are so easy, or generic, you come to wish you were having a hard time, just so you could feel something.

I understand why reviewers sometimes avoid it, because whenever they do on youtube, they're either called a pussy, or full of shit. Meanwhile, this is never an issue when discussing retro games.

A good example of an easy game that adapted to critiscm is White Knight Chronicles, a PS3 title. I love JRPGs, but I loathed this one. The story was generic as hell, side missions weren't intergrated into the main game, and the battles were stupidly simple.

Eventually they released a sequel, which included the original, tweaked to include the additions of the new game. With the sequel came side missions given by NPCs, that included getting items only picked up in those non-intergrated side missions, which suddenly made them more relevant, some of the knight's special moves were taken away, making the battles a bit more challenging, and once you got to the sequel, the difficulty of boss battles was ramped up to the point it was exciting and you actually had to use some strategy. The story's still generic as hell, though. Fortunately, it's a very enjoyable game - now.

Developers won't improve if you do not criticise. If you want good experiences, you tell them where they're going wrong.

I actually liked it and for once I actually agree with Jeff.  Also if you have played any of Suda's other games you know what your in for. There is no way you can have played No More Heroes or Shadow of the Damned and not expect this game to be over the top.  Its a Bargain Bin purchase.

It may seem as though I talk about games being easy/hard because I'm doing a review and talking about the game's difficulty.  Often times guy's don't want to discuss a game's difficulty because audience and peers will tell the person "You Suck!" if they talk about it being a tough game.  Instead they opt to say that every game is easy to avoid this.  But with me, I don't care.  I'm telling you how it is.  If I can grease through a game by jumping and never being hit, the game is easy.  If I have to use 50 continues to get past the first level, the game is hard.  I'm telling you my difficulty with it, and then you can use that knowledge to compare your skills with the same games to know if they are going to be enjoyable for you or not.  A lot of people who come home from work/school don't want to be like Jeff and completely dominate a game.  Often the desire is to have a relaxing time and high difficulty can equal out to frustration which can dampen the experience.  I think talking about a game's difficulty should be part of the overall review.  But peers make that difficult.
