Podcasts - Remote Viewing Episode 19

This week's coverage of new titles was a bit more abbreviated than usual due to SOMEBODY needing to go out of town, not naming any names (BRIAN!). But we all make up for our early recording by throwing in a very special segment on... well, just listen and see for yourself.

Can't believe you didn't mention the "cat poo!" scene in The Car.

@StevenSpillberg74 I am HUGELY envious of you having met Peter Cushing. Can you feel the seething jealousy across the pond? Also, it's funny, I always think I sound rather stupid when hearing myself talk. So thank you for your kind words, sir. I will take them to heart.

    Another superb RM. AS ALWAYS.

@Brian 'Lord' Salisbury - Just the one thing here; TAKE ME WITH YOU!!! Canada is where I want to end up some day. I've been twice, I have family over there and I love it so much. Just have a think on it at least..... (Btw, the film with the scary killer Santa is the original "Tales From The Crypt" from 1972 - that is the first story with Joan Collins when she was actually young and hot and not pretending to be through Jim Henson's workshop). The remake of that story for the modern Tales From The Crypt series is much better with the great Larry Drake :) I am a huge fan of all the anthology films especially the ones my country knocked out in the 70's, all that great stuff from Amicus, Tyburn and the like. And I'm 100% with you on "From Beyond The Grave".

I was very fortunate enough in my lifetime to meet the late, great Peter Cushing, twice in fact, when I was a precocious teenager. He lived in Whitstable in Kent which is where my nan used to live and he would often go to a certain restaurant in town for lunch. As a somewhat hardcore Hammer fan growing up, I was so delighted to have met him and I can tell you for a fact he was every inch the perfect gentleman and as gracious as you would think he is. I got his autograph twice (and another for my friend) which I still treasure to this day. Sadly he died a few years later and was very frail at the time I saw him as he had been knocked off his bicycle. You don't get many celebrities/truly talented sorts today that are like that, a rare breed indeed. I just wish I could meet Christopher Lee :)

@Luke Mullen - you really have one of the coolest, laconic voices I've ever heard next to Brian and Cyrus and I envy you all for it because my voice is fucking bleughhh :(

    Toodles :)

@Ashanti79 thanks so much for listening and commenting! That is a great explanation that makes perfect sense. Thanks for letting us know. Once again, not knowing Arabic gets me in trouble. Please comment more often!

I remember catching one of the A Chinese Ghost Story films on late night tv and I loved it!  It was the same way that I was introduced to the Godzilla films and brought such a nostalgic moment with how different these foreign films are and the culture.  Will def. be checking these films out.  Also, Twilight would have been 100% better if vampires hopped!        Bella"Edward, why can't you stand still?  Why are you hopping?"  Brings a tear to my eye, lol.

This is a weird coincidence.  I decided to listen to some old LEOG episodes and today I randomly picked the infamous April Fools "B Movie" episode.  I just started listening to LEOG after it aired so I'd actually never heard it before.  Anyway, Brian Salisbury was the special guest back then and he recommends The Car @105:20.  I'd never heard of this movie until this last episode of Remote Viewing and the random episode I picked mentions it?  Cue the Twilight Zone theme.

great episode, i really loved you guys talking about obscure movies that you love. "the Car" is one of my favorite films and the scene in the kitchen you talked about terrified me when i first saw it and still does to this day. i will defiantly watch "Chinese Ghost Story" now, the way you described it makes it sound amazing, i am a huge fan of the Shaw brothers and this seams like it might be similar to there stuff. Finally, the description of  "Rolling Thunder" has gotten me vary excited to watch the film, you all seem to really enjoy it to the point where i know that even if i don't think it is great, it seems like a movie i can appreciate for its qualities.

Thank you for the excellent entertainment and i hope to hear another round of discussing under-rated movies that you think people should see next week.

    Don't Forget to be Awesome

    Sincerely Manton Harding

I completely agree with the review about The Car, I found it a few days ago and it was awesome to watch. I really think it was one of the best movies I have seen from that era

Long time listener, first time poster... Just to shed some light regarding the chosen title of "Salmon Fishing": in Arabic, some proper names include the definite article, Yemen being one of them, and others do not. The proper name of the country in Arabic is thus, "Al-Yaman" which literally translates into "The Yemen" when Anglicised. The definite article distinguishes it as a proper name, since Yemen is derived from the Arabic word for "right" (in contradistinction to left). When translating, the definite article is usually dropped since it only signifies that a particular word is a proper noun, which is achieved by capitalization in English, and thus rendering the definite article obsolete. Though it is a stylistic choice and probably should be dropped, the title of the movie is technically correct. Another example is Kuwait, which is actually "al-Kuwait" in Arabic (likewise with Sudan, Jordan, Tunisia, etc.). And for the record, I am not Persian :)

Welcome to Canada. What part are you going to? Here in southern Otario it's cooled down a bit this week to be in the low 90 F as opposed to being on average 110F with the humidity as its been for the last couple of months. We ain't Texas, but we do alright. Go ahead and make your igloo jokes now. :-)
