Podcasts - Remote Viewing Episode 22

This week, Brian and Luke are still driving the RV while Cyrus is off battling monsters in another dimension. Some great titles to discuss, some truly epic giveaways, and a very special guest joins the boys for a discussion of one of Hollywood's greatest sex symbols. No, not Walther Matthau.

Am I the only one who is put off by the fact that Marilyn Monroe (a woman whose beauty is vastly overstated, IMO) is held up as a role model despite the fact that she was a gullible woman with questionable talent who only got to where she was in Hollywood because she was willing to drop her panties at a moment's notice, and who had no compunction with sleeping with multiple married men (when she wasn't sleeping with mobsters, that is)?

I actually watched Gentleman Prefer Blondes for the first time when I was much younger but I never got around to checking out a lot of Jane and Marilyn's other movies. You've inspired me to seek out Some Like It Hot.

You guys don't realize kids do talk like that and high schoolers who think they are cool do love the 90s...I should know I'm in high school.

I did find it funny that they maligned Detention for hipsterism in the same way that Scott Pilgrim was maligned for being too hipstery. Scott Pilgrim was really all about beating up hipsters, and I felt that Detention had a similar current of self referential introspection. At the very least, I had hella fun watching it just like I did SP.

I haven't seen Detention, so I can't say anything about the movie,

... but I can say that me and kids my age (early 20's) are VERY nostalgic for the 90's because it's the time we grew up in -- its the reason Nickelodeon brought back their 90's lineup because we were all so nostalgic for the shows we watched when we were younger.

I think everybody looks back on the time they grew up as being the best (regardless of whether or not it actually was) and every other generation or decade pales in comparison.  The 90's is no exception. I frickin' love the 90's.  But that's because I was born in 1990.

WOW! That summation of "Death Wish" to the tune of "The Brady Bunch" was wonderful! You, sir, deserve a raise!

I grew up watching Marilyn Monroe movies, so I already knew most of what you had to say concerning "Forever Marilyn" - but it was fun to hear you guys glow about what I've known for years. I'm glad you fellows got to watch and appreciate these classics.

I'm sure you guys already got hit by the first wave of shit, but count in another butthurt nerd.

It's fine if you didn't like the 90s, but I really, REALLY don't want to hear over-generalizations like "everyone hate the 90s, absolutely no one liked it" from the same two people who force Cyrus to water down his reviews because you two can't handle him digging into Army Ants Armageddon: Insects inside my Brain! without going "hmmmmm" or "Wellllll..." before he even gets into the good part. That I have to hear you act as if you're the authority on an entire period for my generation, when you guys can barely take criticism to your two star on Amazon movies, is ridiculous.

There's plenty that I and others like about the decade. And personally, I don't think the 80s is worth even a quarter of the nostalgia people like you and Hollywood place on it. I certainly don't think that decade is worth the remakes, sequels, and re-imaginings it gets. I've been hoping they would stop making movies that feed off of 80s nostalgia for years. I want the 80s to go away, period.

    HOWEVER.

That doesn't mean I'm going to tell you guys that your prized time isn't worth nostalging about. That your years were worthless and had no value. That you're stupid for liking the shit of that era.

I'm sorry for the ranting, but really? Stupid comments like these are why I have to hear 14 year olds talk about how they wish things were like "the old days," like they have any idea what they're talking about. Because people keep telling them that their childhood was shit because they didn't get to watch The Breakfast Club or He-man when it came out.

The 90's had some of the best cartoons of all time, way above some of the more popular stuff in the 80's, the 90's had the year 1999, what many consider to be the best year in film history.

and it had friends!Your favorite show.

    @ Nigel

Nicelodeons heyday in the 80's? What channel where you watching?

Nick toons and SNICK both began in the 90's and those featured shows are the ones people most fondly look back on.

    @

Promethus I'd also agree with you on Seinfeld and The Dreamcast loved that system so much I have two of them =p

@Zgamer--Well said, sir. I appreciate your feedback and you make some solid points. We should be back to the regular dynamic by the next show. Thanks for listening!

@Michael It's just the same as the people who say things like: "there's no good music that was made after the '70s."  You're always going to have people who are nostalgic for the time of their choosing, and it's all viewed through rose tinted glasses.  That's the message Woody Allen was going for in Midnight in Paris.

Prometheus, Nickelodeon's heyday was the 80s and nothing you named besides Tarantino was that great.

I appreciate bringing new voices into the Remote Viewing podcast or any of the podcasts since it helps to keep things fresh. I will say that perhaps it will take a few podcasts for some people to fit into the vibe of Spill.com though. Part of the reason Spill.com is so fun to listen to is because the cast of the podcasts are all so lively, entertaining and jokey while they are discussing serious things. Britt did just fine this time around, but just keep that in mind bringing in more people into the podcast. Some critics are not terribly lively or entertaining...

Other than that, great job holding down the fort guys. Keep it up!

I hope you guys bring more of the internet critics like Scott Weinberg, or John Gholson, or even mothafuckin Carlyle to do Remote Viewing. Great episode, and yes, Code Of Silence is one badass movie.

@ Cab i agree completely i was born in 91 and i can understand why brian and luke love the 80s which i like that decade too but they shouldnt bash the 90's which i also really too. Its was one of those decades that you tell was changing alot, when the world was still very cruel in terms of  are society from the past and present events during that time. During that time alot of people had that come together-ness in terms of music, tv-shows, games and ect. even when people were different by race, religion, and ect. As today many people start dissant one another being one sided on certian geners, taste, cool factor, and ect. But the only i can say that is good today is that we all do come together even though we are different but we are not as connected when it comes to giving respect to are differences as a whole.
