My parents love Grimm and so I catch parts of episodes from time to time when I'm in the same room. You basically summed up all my problems with the show. Thank you. It helps me feel like I'm not alone. Though I personally don't think Once Upon a Time is that much better.

I'm very happy to finally get around to watching the show Boss.  Glad to hear you liked season 1, we'll probably start watching it next week.  From a resident of Chicago, your description isn't too far off from reality, especially during the Daley years.  Old man Daley was even called "The Boss", hence the series title, and the Chicago government body was called "The Machine".  It has been said that during those years Daley was one of the most powerful men in America.  There were recordings of him telling presidents what to do.  His son was a character of his own, and corrupt, but not nearly as much as his old man.  He stayed in power for 22 years by finding people to take the fall for him.  Many of these people would soon find another job in the city that pays 6 figures.

That's it for the Chicago history lesson here, I'd invite you to look up Richard J. Daley before watching Boss, it gives you a little background on who the show is most likely based on.  Can't wait to watch it.

I'm  a fan of the site, but seriously, here's a list of things I could do without (because you do them WAY too much): Insisting that terrible movies are actually good; references to Miyazaki; references to Buffy (a terrible show, btw); that one dude saying "I kinda like it" about movies he acknowledges are bad; the abuse of the words "gorgeous" and "brilliant" (seriously, you guys use them a lot); the fact that you are all incapable of just liking something, you have to LOVE everything; calling Step Up 3D a work of art (I'm looking at you Cyrus); that other dude saying "there's not one part of this movie that doesn't work" (to be fair I've only heard him say it twice, but once was about Lethal Weapon 4, which is once too much); and Cyrus mispronouncing the word "women" (reminds me of my mom, who still calls chedder "chadder"). Yes, I know I'm probably going to take shit for this, but this is 'Merrica consarnit, and it is my Jeebus-given right to say what I feel.

@The Joker heh-heh gotcha! No, I really enjoy Remote Viewing, especially when they wander away from the subject a bit and have to come roaring back to the DVD reviews.

In terms of the Chicago corruption thing when it comes to Boss -  as someone who is from and lives in Chicago - I can say....yeah this city is corrupt as hell.

In the future, please just ship all give-aways to me (you pay postage, of course) and save me the tedium of listening to this dreadful muddle of a program. Just kidding, of course. Great to have you back from your cross-country odyssey, Cyrus.

Metropolitan is one of my favorite's from the 90's, a great Woody Allen like gem and Stillman is a very good dialogue writer, because he writes what he knows.

Metropolitan and Kicking and Screaming always kinda went together for me.

about Cellular, i studied that film in a college class. the entire movie was product placement. for the phone, where he goes...theres a scene where Evans is stuck behind a Coca Cola truck, and the camera literally stays fixed on the truck. its real sad

Blazing Saddles was brilliant, but I think Mel Brooks' best movie was either The Producers or Young Frankenstein.

I'm gonna say it. Spaceballs is the funniest Mel Brooks movie. Apologies to Blazing Saddles.
